Midyear Mayhem a "Holiday" Achievement?

The community has been asking for PvP events for a long time, you simply don't represent the community.

Mixing PvP and PvE achievements? These are 100% PvP achievments. If you don't enjoy PvP, don't take part in the event, no one forces you to do it.

Exactly the same argument back at you; you don't represent the community. My opinion, just as you have yours.

Neither select groups of PvE players or a select group of PvP players represent the whole community. However, we all collectively represent the community together. So everyone's opinion matters, but it just means one side or the other isn't going to get their way about it.

    Well said.

If you go to a tack meet, you compete in your skills. You dont ask them to change the achievements so you can get them all. Well... maybe if you're one of those that thinks everyone should get a trophy.

Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

Because it's a holiday event. Why would you assume that means exclusively PvE?

Because, typically in MMO's, and to-date in ESO, PvP events and PvE events are separate things.

yet they cant balance the 2 apart, even though you, i and many others know, they are 2 different entities.

the thing that irks me the most is for the platinum trophy, you need to be emporer to complete it, im never going to be emporer, im not good enough in pvp for 1 and dont have the time for 2.

The Place by Tony Walsh Please Read
This is the place in the North West of England

It’s ace, it’s the best and the songs that we sing

From the stands, from our bands set the whole planet shaking

Our inventions are legends! There’s nowt we can’t make and

So we make brilliant music. We make brilliant bands

We make goals that make souls leap from seats in the stands

And we make things from steel and we make things from cotton

And we make people laugh, take the mick summat rotten

And we make you at home and we make you feel welcome

And we make summat happen, we can’t seem to help it

And if you’re looking for history then yes, we’ve a wealth

But the Manchester way is to make it yourself

And make us a record, a new number one

And make us a brew while you’re up, love. Go on!

And make us feel proud that you’re winning the league

And make us sing louder and make us believe it

that this is the place that has helped shape the world

And that this the place where a Manchester girl

Name of Emmeline Pankhurst from the streets of Moss Side

Led a Suffragette City with sisterhood pride

And this is the place with appliance of science

We’re on it, atomic, we strut with defiance

In the face of a challenge we always stand tall

Mancunians in union delivered it all

Such as housing and libraries, and health, education

And unions and co-ops, the first railway station

So we’re sorry! Bear with us! We invented commuters!

But we hope you forgive us – we invented computers!

And this is the place Henry Royce strolled with Rolls

And we’ve rocked and we’ve rolled with our own Northern Soul

And so this is the place to do business, then dance

Where go-getters and goal setters know they’ve a chance

And this is the place where we first played as kids

And me Mam lived and died here, she loved it she did

And this is the place where our folks came to work

Where they struggled in puddles, they hurt in the dirt

And they built us a city. They built us these towns

And they coughed on the cobbles to the deafening sound

Of the steaming machines and the screaming of slaves

They were scheming for greatness, they dreamed to their graves

And they left us a spirit, they left us a vibe

The Mancunian Way to survive and to thrive

And to work and to build, to connect and create and

Greater Manchester’s greatness is keeping it great

And so this is the place now we’ve kids of our own

Some are born here, some drawn here but we all call it home

And they’ve covered the cobbles, but they’ll never defeat

All the dreamers and schemers who still teem through these streets

Because this is a place that has been through some hard times

Oppressions, recessions, depressions and dark times

But we keep fighting back with Greater Manchester spirit

Northern grit, northern wit in Greater Manchester’s lyrics

And there’s hard times again in these streets of our city

But we won’t take defeat and we don’t want your pity

Because this a place where we stand strong together

With a smile on our face, Mancunians Forever

And we’ve got this* as the place where a team with a dream (*Forever Manchester)

Can get funding and something to help with their scheme

Because this is the place that understands your grand plans

We don’t do No Can Do, we just stress Yes We Can!

Forever Manchester’s a charity for people round ‘ere

You can fundraise, donate. You can be a volunteer

You can live local, give local. We can honestly say

We do charity differently, that Mancunian Way

And we fund local kids, and we fund local teams

We support local dreamers to work for their dreams

We support local groups and the great work they do

So can you …help us help… local people like you?

Because this is the place in our hearts, in our homes

Because this is the place that’s a part of our bones

‘Cos Greater Manchester gives us such strength from the fact

That this is the place. We should give something back.

Always remember. Never forget. Forever Manchester.

Because I like you, let me offer some free advice - not everything is PvP - the forums are not, yet you feel the need to introduce PvP to them. ;)

I never said I represent the community, and as a matter of fact, I don't. But you did. Not word by word, but your previous comment clearly implied that ZoS don't listen to the community by introducing PvP "Holiday Events". What about all the people who have been asking for a PvP Holiday Event? They don't matter, just because you don't like PvP? No one forces you to take part in any PvP activity, at all.

Please, you can have all the special treatments, we get that, but please let them throw a bone to us PvPers from time to time. You can have all the nice things, we are not asking for them. 3 PvE events, 4 fully PvE DLCs, 1 PvE/PvP DLC, 1 PvE/some PvP Expansion, you can have them all, just let us have this small event, please.

I enjoy both PvP and PvE. I just don't understand all the hatred towards PvP, if you don't enjoy PvP, don't take part in the event, simple as that.

This is, in fact, a terrible design decision on ZOS's part, and one that has been discussed ad infinitum here. It's their game, and their call, but it's the only one that has made me question the long-term viability of the game.

For the record, though, I didn't even know the Assault skill line existed until last December, and I've been able to do everything I've wanted to in the game.

Perhaps the solution is a UI one--as the problem appears to be. Allow the achievements part of the journal to be customized so the player can hide what achievements they do not want to see (eliminating the huge PvP achievement if they want) and have this reflected in the Achievement Score.

Maybe even allow players to make their own achieves. :)

But why? Why is pvp such a hard 'no'?
It's baffling to me to say the least.
It's just a game. What's the difference between dying to mobs or players?
Like did something happen to you all in pvp that legit terrifies you to participate now?

It is an entirely different playstyle. For one thing, I don't die to mobs that often, and when I do I resurrect in-place. Secondly, I like collaborating with other players, not competing against them. Third, combat is a means to an end for me, not my primary reason for playing.

This famous essay was already cited, above, and gives a lot of useful insights. In general, in ESO right now there are four basic communities:

    - People who are essentially playing Skyrim online, and not doing veteran or PvP content
    - People who are focused on PvP
    - People who are focused on veteran/"end-game" PvE content
    - Social players who just want to connect with their friends

I realize these Venn diagrams overlap, and some people move among the four groups, but those are the four core constituencies. In terms of Bartle's taxonomy, I'm primarily an "Explorer," with a secondary interest in Achievement. That means I fit into the first group primarily, with some dabbling in the third.

PvP, consequently, does not provide me with anything that interests me. Instead, it wastes my time, with other players actively interfering with whatever exploration or achievement goals I might have, therefore slowing me down. Since I have a job and a family, that uses up my already-limited playtime.

I hope that gives some insight.

I agree with you somewhat, but a holiday event can get PVE players (like me) to at least try PVP. I have a so-so rank in Cyrodiil (Legate) after a long time playing PVE (over a year). I haven't even tried battlegrounds. Maybe this event will get me to at least check it out, and maybe there are some things I will like about it.

I really think the 4-4-4 matches in Battlegrounds should be available to a non-random group of 12. I would love to go in there with my guild.

In my opinion there is no cause for concern. There exists PvP and Pve and it would seem no one is forced into either. Your issue with not being able to complete a PvP related holiday achievement is odd to me. I'd imagine there are a plethora of pve achievements that a player such as yourself will never complete. Not sure why you would pine so hard over this one.

I realize that several members of the development team have described a vision for ESO where players move happily between PvE and PvP. I assume that making the "Midyear Mayhem" achievement a "Holiday Events" achievement instead of a "Player vs Player" achievement is likely another indicator of that goal.

I hope they will rethink that. Many of us PvE-only, carebear types enjoy collecting things like holiday achievements, and we tend to be completionists. If you're going to make a PvP achievement, please keep it under the PvP tree, instead of bleeding it into the PvE achievements.

Many of us play with a solid firewall between our gameplay and PvP. We know it exists, and some players really like it, but it never in any way intrudes on our Elder Scrolls experience. We like that firewall, and I sincerely hope that ZOS will maintain it.

The bit about being completionists is a strange argument to make. To complete the game, of course you'll have to play all of it. Some if it is PvP. Understandable if that's not your cup of tea but you can't skip it and also be a completionist. If you want all the rewards you have to do all the stuff.

But why would you? This is a PvPing event with rewards for enhancing PvP, so you won't miss much but a title and crown that you've decided aren't relevant to you anyway.

Edit: got me with the necro @Baranthus

Pvp in this game is a game of skill. If you only do pve (I happen to do both in relatively equal amounts), then it is an indicator that you need to L2P.

Pve is very easy in this game when you have good gear. Having good gear does not have anything to do with the skill of the player, sadly.

Midyear Mayhem has to go here because it's a classic holiday. Surely we all know the old Midyear Mayhem carol:

    Good King Wenceslas looked out
    on the feast of tea-bags,
while the zergs ran all about,
    vets and noobs and d-bags.
Quickly ganked by blades of night,
    their viper set was cruel,
against the builds that were not right,
    feeling like their fools.

I'd just like to point out that "Mid Year Mayhem" is NOT a Tamriellic holiday, but only the name of an in game event. As such, there should be no issue with moving it out of the holiday category and into pvp. I say this as someone who already has the achievements for the event, so it doesn't matter to me points wise.
