My guess is it's going to be something like Xur from Destiny.

A few random items (with random weight and trait) each week.

You will need to decide whether to buy one with a bad trait or wait for the better traits to cycle through.

As i do pve mainly i don't see this as much of an issue - the helms will be expensive and come the removal of vet ranks you will need cp to wear them and are bound to the character not account . Also its the pve sets that are good (imp city ones anyway) that wont be sold, the helms arnt great and i have all. ( this is from a tank point of view)

I would be fine with this if there was a PvE currency that allowed you to do the same thing as well as buy exclusive sets, currently it sounds like it gives all the incentive for players to PvP and not PvE.

I mean why would anyone rely on RNG of helm drops & shoulder piece from coffers when they could buy the piece with knowing what trait is on it from doing a little PvP?

There is already written - buy it for gold.

Gold isn't a PvE currency, it's a universal one. PvPers will be able to use their AP and keep their gold, PvE'ers will either have to use gold or resort to the RNG of dungeon boss/daily coffer drops while still spending gold on repairs. Not only that having them purchasable for gold doesn't encourage people to step into dungeons, trials or arenas but only to farm mobs, where as them being purchasable for AP encourages PvP.

What PvE really needs is it's own currency like AP that's only acquirable from dungeons, trials and arenas. It's the only way they could make PvE content still worthwhile after this change.

Yeah for those complaining about PVE players now having to do PVP, well you still have options.

1) Use gold instead and only have to travel to pvp zone merchant and pick what you want without any pvp.

2) Do scouting cyrodiil dailies and other pvp/pve dailies in cyrodiil for AP without doing pvp on a low population server.

3) Roll a tanky healer/support and just follow the zerg spamming group abilities, you will pretty much never die and rake in the AP..that is not really pvp either and it helps your server win. :P

4) Play defense only and never fight anyone, just repair stuff with repair kits and gain AP/use siege weapons. Run away anytime a keep is lost...repeat and rinse.

That's just off the top of my head. Probably more options available for pve players....PvP players had NO OPTIONS to get this gear except for running dungeons...I am more PvX player so win win win for me

They are giving all players more options without restricting anyone in the process....I think that is a great design decision personally, more options and less restrictions is always good.

I do think less people will farm dungeons now, you will still see people doing them but if you can skip RNG by paying AP or Gold...I "some" people will choose to avoid RNG at all costs, especially since it is really bad chances in ESO. So they still do need to increase drop chances in dungeons....but...

I suppose it will come down to a choice. How do you want to play?

1) Grind pvp/AP for dungeon gear (Hardcore pvp)
2) Grind gold for dungeon gear (Hardcore pve farmers)
3) Grind RNG Dungeon runs for dungeon gear (Hardcore dungeon pve)
3) Just play the game anyway you like and pick up stuff as you go from every source without grinding at all....(PvX/Casual)

Personally I think more choice for everyone of every types to get rewards is awesome.

I hope @ZOS_RichLambert reads your post, because I think your point about CHOICE is well made. PvPers as well as PvE Grinders and Raiders should ALL have a reasonable path to achievement and satisfaction.

Gold sellers are nuisance in every popular MMO. However, crippling the game for real players is NEVER the answer. In my opinion, ZOS has done a pretty good job of suppressing gold seller activity, even though it's impossible to stamp it out completely.

Yup, something similar to Tel Var Stones for PvE, and Alliance Points for PvP. This would still make your earn your end game gear; not buy gold off a gold sellers website, then buy the gear and become the most powerful instantly.

Well I know where I fall in this. I don't exploit anything, and never heard of a gold glitch. My play style is to gather/make stuff and sell it.
I'm sitting with
1,000,000+ gold
27,000 AP
and just spent all of my 6,000 Tel Var

Part of the reason I don't do other things more than I do, is I don't have the time, and when I do I'm so far behind the curve why bother.

Only thing I can take solace in is the fact that with the stuff I have, I ain't always the one who dies in 1 on 1 or 2 on 1 PvP, So at least I know I ain't at the bottom of the barrel.

If things can't be sold or bought with gold, then I can't get them.

PvE players making more gold than PvP players is a myth. All the gear we get is BoP while all the gear from PvP is BoE. Not to mention raiders spend a lot more gold on repairs.

Instead of adding a merchant they should have just made all gear dropped BoE. Encourage the free market, and let the raiders and PvEers (whatever the *** it means to be one) make gold on the things they spend their time on just like PvPers, and at the same time give PvPers a chance to get the gear without being forced to do the content. And no, material grinding is not a PvE activity so before anyone mentions that as an argument I would like to put that out there.

This is just yet another bandaid fix; adding merchant that appear at set times with random pieces with random traits. Even more absurd that they are considering making the purchased versions BoE when the dropped ones aren't. Yet another way for PvPers to make gold off what they do while PvEers are left behind yet again, having to rely solely on farming materials, motifs or whatever is selling well at the current time.

Keep in mind that Wheeler also mentioned "Hunding" during ESO Live.

I.e., it's probably a mix of stuff. Some monster pieces. Some craftable pieces (for people who don't want to be bothered with leveling crafting and doing research?). I expect that AP vs. gold will vary on a per-item basis. Right now, certainly pieces of siege are AP-only, while some others are AP/gold. I fully expect something similar. Monster heads/shoulders will likely be AP-only, while the craftables will be AP/gold.

And on the matter of BoE/BoP, they said they're considering it, but I highly doubt that they would make the monster pieces BoE. More likely than not, those will be BoP, while the lesser pieces will be BoE.
