PvP and levelling for a new player

Greetings everyone!

I am a fairly new player (level 20 at the moment) and I am interested in getting into PvP.

Is it worthwhile to spend all of my time playing PvP as I level, or should I worry about leveling up first, and once I reach a high level enter PvP?

I only ask because I tried all day yesterday, had some fun, but pretty much got rocked the whole time. I'm a NB and wasn't really putting much of a dent into anyone so I swapped my skills around to heal to try to actually be useful.

I'm wondering, will I be a better asset to my team if I am properly leveled and geared? Someone told me that if I start too late in PvP, it will take forever for me to actually level the PvP abilities.

I'm sure the answer isn't totally cut and dry and I am on the hunt for an active PvP guild atm to help alleviate the process, as pugging probably isn't ideal.

I also have not bought IC yet so this question is directed mainly at Cyrodil, however I know I'll be buying IC once I get some extra $$

Thanks again for the help everyone, share your PvP leveling experiences!

Welcome to the jungle. With only level 20, be sure to enter a non-veteran campaign, because you will be destroyed in veteran campaigns. Non-vet campaigns are nicely balanced and you can have fun on any level, so you can take your time. Once you hit level 50, you can only play veteran campaigns. Veteran campaings are hardly balanced and a V1 is hardly a match for a V14.

My daughter had a great time in non-veteran campaigns, she loved PVP and most of the time reached the Top 10. Once she hit level 50 and had to play vet campaigns, she lost the fun in PvP. She told me she would not have leveled up in PvE to level 50 if she had known that veteran PvP was so terribly unbalanced.

    In short:
    • if you are playing just for fun, don't level up too fast and enjoy balanced non-veteran campaigns
    • if you want to play competitively with the the big boys, level up as fast as you can to V14 to have a chance in veteran campaigns.
Deltia explains how to reach V14 within a few days:

This is a good thing. You'll learn a lot faster rolling with a good guild. Also, in my experience, most pug group leaders in non-vet campaigns seem to have much larger egos than brains. They are also really good at typing "stack on crown" in all caps... not much else. Find a good guild mate. :D

    *Cue shameless self advertising*

Try reading this. It should help you get started on how to live a bit longer. Go ahead and get your feet wet in PvP, you should have enough abilities by now to be effective. You will be scaled to the strength of a VR14 player when you enter Cyrodiil, so take time to make use of the extra health afforded by the Battle Levelling buff to learn the ropes. Better to learn it now, then having to learn it without the extra health Battle Level when you finally reach VR16.

Good luck out there, and don't give up!

Insanity is the price of Knowledge. Herma-Mora and Sheogorath, this one bows before thee.

This one does not advocate for any class to be nerfed. There are far deeper underlying issues then a simple "Class Imbalance". The Champion System is the problem. Not classes.

Please read this before creating yet another nerf thread.

The Non-vet campaign can be a lot of fun, but keep in mind you will get "battle levelled", which means your attributes will be set by the game to be predefined values. Your gear and enchantments will have no effect on your regeneration or max attributes any more. The only thing that will affect your numbers is your mundus stone - so choose it wisely!
You won't level fast in PVP, in fact there has been people playing in Blackwater Blade for over a year and still aren't Vets yet.
But thanks to battle levelling, you'll be able to safely join at level 20 and have the same chance at victory as a level 48. I totally recommend checking it out, and some of the alliance skills are really useful to get anyway and will help you when you decide to go back to PVE (if you decide ;))

As someone else said I loved the Non Vet PvP - it was fun balanced, smaller sides could hold keeps from larger groups, resources were defendable and the Zerg Train was a myth. Your probably a little bit weak at Lv 20 because you probably miss some of the better skills for your class but you will hold your own.

Soon as I hit Vet 1 PvP sucked. Zerg Trains of people running kicking out Steel Tornando the guards being killed by this mass AOE in seconds, Uber Characters who can fight 10 others and Win and the feeling that my attacks did no damage. Long as you stick to Non Vet you will be fine.

I've been playing PvP since beta and I'm hooked. Mostly if you want to survive in normal PvP ranged weapons (don't forget siege weapon) are your friend trust me a lvl 20 isn't going to last against a vet 16 for more than a few seconds. I would recommened you fight in non vet for a time before coming to the vet area. Also watch out for the zergs (large groups) they will run you over in the blink on an eye.

Well there are actually forums dedicated to guild recruitment here. And as for in-game, you could ask in whatever your capital city is for your faction. What alliance and Server and platform do you play on? I'm EP so for me it would be Mournhold. AD- Elden Root, DC-- Wayrest?

The other way to do it is group with people in Cyrodiil and elsewhere and play with them for awhile, making a connection so to speak and then mention the fact that you're looking for an active PVP guild to play with. Most people are pretty receptive to that sort of thing, and that's what has worked for me in the past. Whatever you do, don't "spam" looking for an invite-- you'll be seen as annoying probably.

    Good luck mate! :D
