Questions for Console Nightblade - New to ESO - PVP Oriented

TidBit
TidBit
Greetings everybody. Hopefully you can help me out.

I've been to Guild Wars 1 and 2... and I did not like the WVW much but surprisingly I liked the S-pvp.
I've done WoW... and I disliked the battlegrounds... I got more jollies from ganking people in the open world... same with Rift.
I gave up on FF 15 due to the wait times plus the same BG was annoying :(
I played DAoC for over a decade. By far my favorite game I've ever played. I still log on once in a while.

I'm new to ESO and have a few questions.

I want to solo. I want to catch the strays and gank them and 'hunt' in PvP. I've never been much of a group oriented person. For those who are familiar with DAoC... I enjoyed playing the stealthers and just crawling around finding that hapless stray. I hope for that here.

I am just struggling. Granted I am only level 12 but I do not see any information on specs when it comes to placing points. Each spec I see just says which buttons to have on your toggle.

I'm a kitty cat person lol..... and I hear I should go werewolf when I can... that sounds fun.

I also hear that duel wield is the best (with daggers) and bow as my second option once i hit level 15. Please correct me if I am wrong.
I also hear I should go medium armor all the way.

So

1). Can anyone please recommend something for me? Preferably... based on stealth.. and ganking? What do you recommend I place my points: In my armor, any other lines etc? Also - should I keep dumping every point I get each level into stamina or what? Please remember.. ganking is my main focus.. stealth hunting and ganking...
2). Is it beneficial to go bow as my second line? If so.. at level 15 do my stats switch when I switch weapons or do I need to find a middle ground where my spec points compliment both my weapon toggles?
3). Is there any type of kill counter or area you can see how you measure up on your server or for your class? Like WowHead or the DAoC Camelot Herald?
4). Do you recommend saving and buying a cheap pony for 10K or is there a quest to get one? I can't find anything online about this.

I understand you probably see a hundred of these - and I've read a hundred of them but everyone just shows a video of their character and the buttons to put on the hotbar and that's it. I need to know what to place my points in and other things like that :/

ganking works the same way it worked in DAoC so that should make you happy.

    1) skill wise its up to your preferences you are either going 2h/bow or 2h/DW so put your points into the skills assumed in all those other threads you have allready mentioned as you can respec when ever you like(unlike in daoc where you had to purchase respec stones from other players) it doesent matter wich skills you use while lvling. especially as skills used in PvP are not allways the best choice for (solo)pve.
as you have more than enough skillpoints to get whatever you want (my NB has over 250 skillpoints with tons of possible further skillpoints open while not spending around 45 of those) so there is no limitation if that is an anxiety of you.

    2) bow is a usefull choice but not neccessary. as i said you will have enough points to be spend test around what you like and what not. stat wise bow relies on stamina as all other non staff weapons so you are not penalized when weapon swaping beside only the stats of the active weapon are active for your overall stat.

    3) nothing like those two mentioned options, you have two IG leaderboards (no overall nor offline boards though) the emperor lederboard acessable via the campaign window, and the more individual boards within your quest window.

    4) there are no mount quests yet. so you have to by one either ig or via the crown shop, all mounts have the same end stats but you have to feed them to "lvl up" (wich takes 90 days of daily feeding to maximize it) so there are no differences beside optical issues, wich means the 10k horse is as effective as the 45k horse the just have different appearences.

hope that helps if not feel free to PM me.

As a fellow DAoC player - may I ask your personal opinion on how it feels compared to Camelot? I've yet to find a happy medium and continuously go back to it... my wife LOVED Skyrim and she's hooked on this. She loves the PVE aspect but me.... eh... PVP.

That's why I have so many spec questions. Cuz I wanna play like I did in DAoC

from my perspective it is the best adaptation of the daoc pvp on the market - even though DAoC still has some advatages like a by far better netcode, in daoc your gameing rig was the bottleneck creating performance issues as long as the zerg were not bigger than 2-300 players on all 3 sides in one fight. i remember situations when server where merged where over 2k players were in a reletive small area (decayed lands on agramon) wishing their old server a farewell with out any performance issues on the server side - here the server park just melt with 200players involved.

none the less the pvp is quite similar to DAoC the difference though is player behaviour the current gaming crowd is not used to entertain them selfs within a given toolset everything needs to be chewed for them or they end up running around like headless chicken.
thats why you have next to no (atleast on EU servers) group pvp like you had with daocs 8vs8 community beside that playstyle pvp in ESO is as vivid, entertaining and sometimes frusttrating as DAoC.

for the PvE i´m the worst to be asked :D i avoid it where ever possible, handicaped by vanila TOA  , soing only as much as absolutly needed to participate on equal footing in pvp.

Don't worry about skill points, you'll be overflowing with them by the time you reach VR14 (Current max level, soon to be VR16). If you want to play a stealth based playstyle, you'll want to focus into your stamina pool. Which means medium armor. A full set (7/7pcs) of medium armor is my recommendation.

Apart from the Bow ability "Snipe", the rest of the bow abilities are really subpar, a shadow of their former glory back in previous patches (1.4/1.5). The problem about the current "Snipe Spam" meta for archers is that Snipe is a really easy to dodge projectile, in addition to the fact that it opens up the archer to retaliation in melee. Most "Snipe Spammers" die within 2 seconds when cornered in melee range by a competent player. It's even faster (0.1 sec) if the player has a build designed for counterstealth.

If you were on the PC, I would have recommended an add-on called "Kill Counter". It tracks your kills/deaths on a local file on your computer, allowing you to assess your own performance. Also, get that 10k horse asap. You'll need one for Cyrodiil.

As you are a new Nightblade, and also new to Cyrodiil, may I recommend reading my guides? The links to them are in my signature.

tend to disagree here, bombard, magnum shot and venom arrow are strong abilities with really nice effect additions.

I should have phrased that better. Subpar for what the OP wants to do, which is to deal high damage from stealth. Those abilities used to deal way more damage back in 1.4/1.5, which was the golden age of archers. I should know, as I played as an archer from beta to 1.5, until 1.6 changes forced me to put it down at long last (I want my light attack damage back :confounded: )

i do agree but as you said most active archers are easy preys as they do not utilize those skills ;) as reducing everything to dmg only aint the way to survive outside of the "boom headshot" situation ;)

True. But then, if they did use those skills, their snipes will suffer, as to even use those skills effectively, you need some modicum of stamina regeneration, something a WD focused build (For max snipe damage) wouldn't have. In addition, most gankers prefer food to drink, further hurting their regeneration values. The infamous "Troll Sniper" build which boasts 20k snipes has the survivability of wet tissue paper, even if they had those CC skills slotted and ready. All it takes is one Piercing Mark on them or Radient Magelight and they are as good as dead.

Of course, none of this matters much if the archer in question has 300+ CP. The CP system is slowly turning us all into gods.

you killed me quite often with that trollbuild :) the biggest gripe of the game that build "abuses" is the horrible netcode leading way to often to a desynct impact stacking multiple arrows within the same second (the hihgest number of shots i´ve seen on my NB beeing desynct were 8 shots delivered in the same second - with the obligatory "Cheater!" send afterwards) thx to latency and an errorous stealth exit code.

That's why I have so many spec questions. Cuz I wanna play like I did in DAoC

This game has by far the best pvp systems since daoc. It has the same kind of open world (although much larger), still has the 3 factions/realms for more dynamic action (meaning there's usually more than just one hotspot where the fighting is going on). Skill can beat numbers, although they are working on fixing that -,-

There's not much roaming action (ala daoc 8v8 etc) but there are people in the field, running from a keep they have teleport access to, to a keep they are attacking/defending for example.
This is where you'll want to be. There's great potential for solo/smallman action in these areas.

As for specs etc, I recommend using a bit of everything to level all your skill lines up and give yourself more options at higher level (and spare yourself the extra grind). This way you'll also learn how the skills work and whether you like them or not.

Can anyone give me an opinion on this build?

    http://tamrielfoundry.com/topic/2-0-the-cutthroat-dwbow-melee-stamina-pvp/

I was thinking about using it for PVE & PVP. As you can tell from my initial post here... I'm into stealth PVP and this seemed to read as a ganking spec that is stealth heavy... however is it still good or outdated?

I wanted to ask for advice on a few things. For example... I hear people say Sword / Mace and use duel wield... but if I spec in duel wield where it gives bonus to offhand damage... the Duel Wield Slaughter and Duel Wield Expert. Do they only do damage if I use the Duel Wield abilities or do they increase the damage on just having the weapon in that slot? Because as you can see from this template.... they don't utilize any duel wield abilities... so would these passives be worthless? If so... can I just respec the points I placed in them or do I have to pay once again to have ALL my points replaced? Or will I be left without enough points to not even worry about it?

A few people have told me about caltrops.... which I can only get in PVP.... do I need to redo my tool bars as I don't see it on this template or do I just disregard the advice a few people have talked about (caltrops and purge)?

    /sigh

I so miss DAoC :( This system is so..... confusing. Thank you for all the help people.

    1. At level 12 you do not have a lot of skill choices but you definitely want to level up the following skill lines: Medium Armor, Bow, Two Hander (Rally), Assassination, Shadow and Fighter's Guild (Camouflaged Hunter). Your attribute points distribution depend on your race but you want at least 20K health and rest into Stamina;
    2. If you want to gank, I will definitely recommend a bow at least as a secondary weapon;
    3. Not on consoles but I am confident there is a PC add on that keeps track of things like this; and
    4. You can either get the Imperial Edition and get a white horse for 1G, or you can also get a mount in the crown store. All mounts perform the same.

P.S. I have a VR2 Nightblade and for me it is hard to play Stamina. Maybe because I do not have the Stamina heal abilities of the two hander's Rally nor the Alliance War's Vigor. I am trying to get both of these but I needed to switch back to Magicka in the meantime. My advise do not try to level or PVP as a low level Stamina Nightblade. Go Magicka and then switch to Stamina after getting Rally and Vigor. This is what I am doing.

I'm a cat person. Forgot the name lol. I was following that other template I posted.

But it doesn't give much information on where else to spend points on other than the abilities.
