You can have both versions installed. Most likely you already have DX9 installed as that's the most common version for WinXP. Just try what i supposed above.

Hmm,

@kray22 realy the best for you is to switch to windows 7. Because there are no more support from mircosoft to windows xp and you got a realy unsave system now. So, realy the best is, use windows 7.

as said above, Win XP is half your problem. It doesn't support anything over DX9.0C. I had DX trouble even with a DX10 GTX260 Tri SLi setup and crashing with ESO (and that was on Win 8.1 with latest drivers).

the rest of your kit should be able to handle it. I ran ESO on 8.1 with an old C2Q Q9550 + Striker II Formula + 4GB + GTX260 SLi from launch up until about 6 months later (and that stuff is about 6- years old). It handled ok, but each patch seemed to make things worse.

ESO has a terrible compatibility with legacy stuff, but your stuff isn't exactly that old so it's hardly what I'd consider to be legacy. You're shooting yourself in the foot though running a 13 year old Operating System..

Pretty much. I don't understand the hatred he has towards Win7, since it was a better optimized, and more secure OS than XP. But then again, I've seen plenty of irrational hate for things. Pretty sure the OP has already hated Win10, without so much as trying, seeing or reviewing it, even though ironically Win7 and 8.1 users will be able to upgrade to free now.

I've had the exact same problem in beta, like many others, unfortunately.
The problem was the missing "usersettings" file.
If you can't find it in your Documents/Elder Scrolls Online/live folder, then it's not there. Then you need to create such a file (a simple txt file) and copy in this:

@kray22 you do know you can get Windows 8.1 Pro for as low as about 20 bucks / euros

And in half a year get a free upgrade to Windows 10. Windows 7 are going to be the same as XP in a year or so (no support), and 8.1 is pretty good for gaming, better driver performance, better thread scheduler (none or lower stuttering from multi threading than previous releases)

If you can't stand the modern UI you can even remove it all at once with free software like Classic Shell.

Game works fine for 99.9% of the people except you. Stzill you blame it on your gaqme and not your crappy pc technical issue with your pc. Think whatever you want, but life will be very frustrating with such an attitude. The game works perfectly fin, just not for you. You filed a support ticket, they will help you!

Same opinion here and I run exactly the same system, Win 8.1 + Classic Shell suit and never ever had any issues besides 209/210 launcher errors, which are solvable by following the instructions linked above.

My guess is, that the reason isn't the cash you have to spent on a new system software, but the work you have to do for a complete new install...but hey, if you have a PC and no console, you should expect something like that, hitting you every 5 years.

Wrong!! Look around on the forums, you'll find dozens of users for which the game does NOT run fine, especially not since update 6. No matter which OS or what not they're using. If it works fine for you, why bother replying in topics like this???

If it's a blackscreen at ESO startup, then it's most likely the missing usersettings file which should be installed with the game automatically but sometimes doesn't. Btw, OS is not the same as PC, if you didn't know.

Have you tried creating the UserSettings.txt file yet? Sometimes that can be the main problem when clicking play takes you straight to a black screen. If you need instructions on creating one, we will be happy to post a basic file here with instructions for you to create it!

Dunno where you got yours however on the official site the minimum is Windows 7
