WinXP is still included in the system requirements for ESO. Works for me.

Pretty much. I don't understand the hatred he has towards Win7, since it was a better optimized, and more secure OS than XP. But then again, I've seen plenty of irrational hate for things. Pretty sure the OP has already hated Win10, without so much as trying, seeing or reviewing it, even though ironically Win7 and 8.1 users will be able to upgrade to free now.

You cant really take any one seriously that starts a sentence with LIKE. we have 11 official languages and taht looks pretty poor in all of them

But changing the usersetting file must have been the solution. He hasn't responded because he is playing atm im sure of it

Admittedly, I didn't check the links, but didn't ZoS change the graphical requirements with the release of Tamriel Unlimited perhaps the XP inclusive requirements is the release requirements and the 7 is the current requirements? Maybe some XP systems work but not enough to guarantee the product for that OS? Just guessing.

if his XP is up to date, changing the usersettings file to D3D9 would solve it. Also, picking a custom resolution right there would help too. Turn off AA and update DirectX and he's good to go.

The game HAS TO run on XP. On my end it does. If it doesn't work for someone else, then it's not the OS but something else. If it's a blackscreen at ESO startup, then it's most likely the missing usersettings file which should be installed with the game automatically but sometimes doesn't. Btw, OS is not the same as PC, if you didn't know.

I know the minimum system requirements. That doesnt mean that for anyone who got that,, it will work whatsover. Also your claim that lots of people are complaining. This is not more then at any other MMO in the world (except maybe wow now-a-days, but they got decades of experience). It is a normal percentage and it can have many causes. the usersetting file is one of them. The notorious Nvdia streaming service another.

I do know the difference between a PC and an OS likely much better then you, and judging to your answering, also what the cause is of a black screen.

The game doesn't HAVE to run on XP. I'm running it fine on windows 10 (technical preview). I do have to set the compatiability mode to windows xp sp3 as stated in the faq's on this forum. If you have issues with running it on newer windows version you might want to check that out and use those instructions to set the compatibility mode too.

As for issues starting with 1.6...I'm always a bit sceptical bout those claims. This is bout the same time as the infamous nvidia streaming issue. Main point however is that there isn't a traith answer. Each and every PC is different. The combination of windows version, driver version and actual hardware makes each situation unique. These are things that have to be looked into and checked on an individual base by support (through a ticket). If there is a common issues, they can tell and solve it.
If support isn't doing that properly (which sometimes is put out as an issue) do complain bout the crappy support here, but don't blame it on the game itself.

Last remark.. I know I was a bit harsh to the OP bout his crappy pc. But given his attitude, I hope that way I could reach him. In no way I want to leave the impression that it was aimed at other people having issues.To those I insist on getting support by creating a ticket.

LOL Sure, whatever you say. And this blackscreen issue WAS fixed by creating/changing the usersettings file, this is FACT! Anything else you wrote, I don't care about in any way.

I'd hazard to say the GFX drivers probably aren't updated or not working correctly with the game settings.

The GFX card supports shader 3.0 but DX9 doesn't support it and if a game is set to require it you will get a black screen or get a black screen the drop the windows with an error code window.

WinXP is ok but Win7 is actually the best windows you can get today maybe win 10 will be good as the new CEO has gotten rid the the tablet/desktop version of windows 8 and split it again.

I admit to not reading every post in this thread, so apologies if this has already been covered.

The black screen of death is common for many of us with Nvidia cards. In the past I always had to reboot several times to get rid of it. Luckily I found a workaround that works every time but may not help in this case. The key is that my computer monitor is also my TV. Whenever I get a black screen while loading ESO (it's rare for me) I switch the input from the computer to the TV and then back to the computer. This works every time to get rid of the black screen without having to do anything else. Maybe this will help others with the problem.

I do have a quick question though can I just copy game folder to my ext hd and when install windows 7 move it back over so don't have to download for 12 hours again

Hello @kray22 !

In theory -yes. However you may want to run a repair once you do so just to make sure no file paths were corrupted in the process if your new OS changes anything in the way your game installed.
