Halls of torment / Lyris Doppelganger

Made it to the Lyris doppleganger at lvl 30 with a Dual Wield DK but hadn't really figured out the full attack pattern and Tharn did little to help. Decided after only getting her to halfway down and then dying a few times to have fun elsewhere for a while.

Came back after more leveling and it was still harder than I expected (I wouldn't have known it was for a boss 5 levels under my character's progression), but with spiked armor and dragon's blood mixed with blood craze I lasted long enough to grab those feast orbs before she did (about dozen or so times). I noticed that the reason Tharn stopped attacking was that his health got to (next to) nil, so I tried to draw her attention away and he actually contributed a little more before getting hit and shutting down.

Eventually the doppleganger went down after a slight slog of attrition. I guess this is a bit of a spec/build and play style tester. Really had to pick everything carefully to suit this particular kind of foe.

This fight is really hard (= significantly harder than any other solo challenge till this level) for light armour classes. And it seems to bug quite often.

My story: As a lvl30 templar (mostly light armour, healing oriented with just enough dps skills to do any other quest in the game) I could not pass even the first boss, so I decided to wait a few levels. I returned here only at lvl37, the first boss was no problem but Lyris was really driving me crazy. As it happens in such cases, I came to the forum to look if anyone could actually complete it.

Thank's to the video by @slopezgamesub17_ESO1 I identified my problem - in his video Lyris turns into naga at 75% morale. It was not the case for me, I could survive for the first 50% but at this point my companion would stop assisting me and Lyris - still in a human form - would keep beating me. I don't know if my further actions were a solution (= walk around the bug) or just pure luck, but in the attempt after I watched the video I stopped attacking after 75% threshold and just kited for a while. Only then Lyris turned into naga which is really easy to fight if you have any ranged autoattack for those healing balls.

Good luck to anyone who is still stuck here!

Guess I got lucky then @ L29. I fought Lyris using my sorc with dots, bolt, and a slow st dps attack. It took me 3 tries to get the fight down. There's definitely a con problem with most quest encounters though.

Tharn was pain in the butt, but Lyris was done in the first try without much effort. Strange how some things are hard for others and easy for me, and the other way around.

Melee, used some sheild slam to keep her stunned, and focused on the balls. Easy as pie.

I had the same problem at your level, it's funny, Lyris Doppleganger is the hardest part of the main questline, even the boss at the end was easier then Lyris.

Can't win this fight either, it's just annoying as hell. Tharn wasn't a problem at all, but the Lyris doppelganger is too tough with the real Lyris being inactive.
It's quite frankly not a fun fight at all.

Good. It isn't just me. I can't get past the Tharn doppelganger. The real Tharn just stands there and does nothing. WTF? I'm a level 32 Templar and most boss fights are pretty close but this one is impossible so far.

I'm using improved heavy armor with stamina, health and magicka enchantments. And my weapon uses flame and my shield also adds stamina. I've died about 13 times now.

Tharn was easy mode to me with Lyris tanking it while I could take care of skeletons. Lyris doppleganger though is a different story. Real Lyris is just standing there after first stun.

Btw mechanics is exactly same as Doshia. Now complains about this, in beta about Doshia. I wonder if it is coincidence. Both same rather dull mechanics that favour certain playstyle. The only difference is that Doshia became rather easy fight recently while this one is just... overdone really:-)

And in addition to that level 20 quest as a whole (Mannimarco fight especially) was fun. Level 30 is just boring - both Lyris and Tharn fights.

Tharn was easy with Lyris as tank. NB - pretty reasonable bow spec, though I use blades usually. You can stand at full distance from Tharn and he'll bang on Lyris. As long as you don't attract the skellies, you can just hit him, though when he gets more than two skellies, you should pull one to keep her from staggering, then they all come after you.

      K. hit Post instead of preview... The Lyris Doppelganger fight is awfully tough. It's really a solo fight; the "real" lyris does just stand there after the first few whacks. I'll get it figured out, but at this point (level 30 and a quarter), I'll go kill other stuff first.

I was finally able to beat this today after failing miserably at it at level 33. (beat it at level 37, bow-sorceror) The trick that worked for me was logging out once I was in the room with the doppelganger (but out of aggro range), then logging back in. Lyris charged right in as soon as I started the fight and I just sprinted up to the doppelganger and spammed magnum shot / draining shot alternating with dps lightning etc, pummeling it into the wall and pinning it there. The fight was over in 10 seconds. Used one stamina pot.

Anyway, as we've discovered, if Lyris actually fights, it's no problem really, but if she stands around... oy.

Try the logout and login trick. Hope that helps!

      My verdict:

Lvl31 DPS Sorc + Lyris = lots of rezzing.

Of all the quests lines, you'd think Zenimax would have made sure the main quest chain actually worked as intended. I really don't think that having that mouthy amazonian do a few hits and then just follow you around like a lost puppy is "working as intended".

Fix this Zenimax. You should be embarrased.

I tried it again at 34 templar specced Spear and Restoring light, this is the hardest fight I've found at level so far in game. Lyris is constantly bugged out fighting Tharn or the Doppleganger, even at full health...

both fights are full of stuns and knockbacks, which are challenging enough but when you constantly seem to land in a feature unable to move (like litterally stuck in a pillar or bush) it's more than frustrating.

So far this fight is my only complaint about the entire game- I love it.
Do the main line quests all have to be solo? Or can you bring in a partner with more utility than the npcs?

I hate npc allies- in LOTRO friends referred to the Sons of Elrond as "The Wonder Twits" seems appropriate for most allied npcs in any game.

I ran all the way back and left at 30, I will go there with someone else tonight, if I can. But be sure I will NOT take Lyris this time, she gets hung up on her own feet.

Finally managed it at level 35, the Lyris doppelganger died fast enough to not get any orbs out.
What really annoys me about these boss fights is that you're forced into a very small selection of skill setups to win them. The same problem with Valley of Blades, if you lack certain abilities, you're in for a very rough time (Silver Bolts helped immensely with the last part of the valley).
Sure, some people solo these fights without issues because they have the right abilities from the beginning, but especially the main quest shouldn't cater only to those who maximize their efficiency. Keeping the difficulty for those who want a challenge soloing is fine, but allow the rest of us to group up and get the fights done.

Beat her at 30, sword/board dk.

If you avoid the large attacks, and rely on auto attack damage in order to save your resources for adds, it's not quite as bad as people are making it out to be. This general rule holds in every fight I've seen up to 45.
      • misslexinub19_ESO
Really hate this one. I'll be skipping the rest of the 'Prophet' crap

1 - Forced solo with useless NPC assist isn't what I wanted from this - I can play Skyrim if I wanted.
2 - Seems DK is the only class with enough stuns & knock-backs and AoE to handle any of these.

It would be nice if the NPC(s) following would actually help more than one or two hits. It would be less frustrating to do it without a NPC standing back while you are getting pummeled.

Did this as a level 31 Templar. Heavy armor and healing staff(I suspect any ranged weapon would have worked equally well). Restoring Light and Dawn's Wrath skills. Stop to block special attacks. Hit with heavy attack while they're stunned to knock them down for additional knock down time. Kite and repeat. Died several times before working out a system and was quite frustrated during the fights but it felt good when I finally beat it. It's difficult but not impossible and I sort of like it that way.

I had very little problems and got it first try. Caster sorcerer, dark exchange, critical surge, inner light, boundless storm all on both bars. Elemental Ring for aoe on bar 1 and crystal fragments on bar 2. Easy peasy.

I just failed the quest because of the real lyris. I was fighting the doppelganger and as per usual Lyris does nothing. I kite her and bring her down to 20%. Lyris steps in stops her and let her take a full trail of bubbles back in.

I don't know what to do with these solo quests. I play a tank I have a low DPS because its not my playstyle and I really feel these quests are for dps who can kill fast.

I also don't understand the difficulty. Story quests needed to progress should be easy and focused more on the narative rather than insanely hard compared to the rest of the game.

Further to my previous post, I took my L34 sorc back into this quest and kicked her ass ALONE (no thanks to Lyris). Surprisingly the "Snake" fight was harder than the final one.

I feel for anyone who struggles with this quest at L30. Don't bother, leave it till later.

I just spent an hour and a half trying to beat this thing as well and there is NO way. I swapped out my ability load, I swapped out dual wield daggers to a staff and NOTHING WORKS.

This is as ridiculous as the Doshia monster in the fighters guild quest line FOR THE SAME REASON. I needed to be about +10 the recommended level to finish that quest am I going to need to be level 40 just to do the main quest line on this one?

After getting owned hard by the Lyris Doppelganger... again! Every now and then I go back and give it another shot. Tharn for me is now easy. But Lyris bends me over every time.

I got so frustrated that I went back to Bangkorai and soloed two lvl 37 trolls just to prove to myself my character isn't that bad.
