PSNA yes the last few days have had a fair amount of lag. Even when farming, a pretty low intensity activity I get a pause of 5-10 seconds and then it catches up.

It's happening in dungeons as well. I look over an wonder why everyone is standing still, then whoosh and everyone moved at the same time...

Really? I run a UK based guild with members all over the world but mostly EU and UK, nobody has mentioned it recently. For me it runs very smoothly with no lag. I'm on Virgin Media Fibre at 500 Mbps and a wired connection.

This is happening during dungeons all times during the day on PC-NA. Although the performance of this game is never really that good, the performance during this undaunted festival has been atrocious. I don't understand how this happens with a game studio this size, after 10 years, after being purchased by Microsoft. I'd understand this situation if ZOS was an indie company and ESO was in beta. But problems of this nature are not at all uncommon. Especially during this 10th anniversary year. What a celebration!

One thing I’ve been noticing (not sure if this is the same for others) is that I tend to get big ping spikes when I load into new characters or take a wayshrine to another zone. That’s the only predictable pattern I’ve seen; the ping spikes are otherwise random and occur whether I’m in a crowded location with a lot going on or in the backwoods of a deserted zone, any time of the day or evening.

Yeah, it's getting progressively more miserable. Yesterday, I only logged in long enough to grab my daily reward, then logged right back off. Zero motivation to even do crafting dailies.

Can we power cycle the servers or something? Seriously.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard coming out Oct. 31st. If I weren't responsible for running a guild, I'd honestly think about taking a long break from this game when it drops. As it is, you'll at least get my one 5-minute daily log-in, which I guess is all that really matters for boasting active player numbers.

if it was as simple as power cycling the servers, dont you think some bright spark would have done it?
dont you think Microsoft (who are at the top of the tree of the entire thing) might have said "have 500 quid, put some more RAM in it - or more likely, just pressed a button - because its virtual!!

That line was meant to be humor/sarcasm since it's pretty obvious it's more than just "the servers". It's too early in the morning to have this big of a meltdown over words on the Internet.

Same here, everything seems to be fine on PC-EU. Havent run a trail for a long time so i cant give information about that but 2 player archive run was smooth and also 4 player content like dungeons seem to run very good. Havent had a disconnect in months now too.

PvE and PvP is bad on PS EU, the lag spikes and freezes are bad but the sound is horrendous. Most skills fire but you don't hear the sound of the skill until 2 seconds later and at it's worst last night it was up to 4 seconds after casting you'd hear all the sounds at once. Ended up having to play on mute it was too annoying.

    Thank you Kevin!

Adding my voice to this too, lag and general performance since last update has been awful. Both in dungeons and overland, dungeons have been the worst. Trials I've seen performance dips also, but not as bad as dungeons.

I was dismissing it at first because of the Undaunted event, more people logging in, running dungeons, etc.
But in the last couple weeks I've seen more guildies mentioning bad performance also, so at least I knew it wasn't a "me" thing.

Attacks\abilities are queuing up, then release all at once after a few seconds delay.
Last night I was trying to run nBC II and at one point there were a few trash mobs in a hallway just past the room where you fight Maw, they were "stuck". They would agro, but neither they or I could attack. Usually when that happens I expect to be dumped to the log-in page, but it didn't. I waiting in-game for about 5 minutes seeing if it would unfreeze, nope.
And since I was stuck in combat I had to alt-F4 out of the game.

Inside player housing I don't notice any lag.

Really hope you all can get the latency\poor performance sorted.

So ZOS should have started rebuilding the game from scratch on a new engine more than 5 years ago when this problem became so obvious.

The engine is roughly 17 years old.

I'm sure ZoS is WELL aware of that. As a software developer there has been more than one occasion when I've gone to leadership and said something along the lines of, "Hey.. so we want to add all these things but we are limited by our engine". I'm confident in saying a developer has at least once brought that up to leadership at ZoS.

You're basically taking a 2005 Dodge Neon and trying to add parts to it that are meant for a 2024 Corvette - it's just not going to work right out of the gate.. you're going to have to make a ton of modifications to the parts (code stack) to make it work.

I'm sure at some point over the last few years there was an internal conversation with ZoS on refactoring the underlying code or the engine as a whole to allow developers to add/remove/fix things easier. IF I'm trying to take the thought process as someone in a general leadership role.. with ES6 coming down the pipe soon-ish... I can easily see how from a financial standpoint it would make more sense for ZoS to continue with the current engine instead of reworking everything.

Now, this is 100% an assumption on my part based on years of experiences being in rooms where these kind of conversations have taken place. It is almost never the case where 17 years into an engine, with a new game actively in development, that leadership would check off on taking that big of a task. Keep in mind the amount of work that would be required to make it happen is... it's a lot.

Also keep in mind that around the time I'm assuming this convo would have happened would have had COVID mixed in as well.

Now, if something like this WAS going to happen I agree... it should have happened about 5 or 6 years ago. This is where the technical debt you build by failing to make those kind of improvements happen and that is how you get to present day.

I really wish leaders in companies that have any kind of software development would go read the Phoenix Project. It's truly a great book and really helps change the way leaders look at software development and the long term implications you can have from making the, "Just get it out the door" decision.

Usually, when a dev is telling you hey we have a problem.... you have a problem.

just want to add also, along with the issues OP had mentioned, PS5 is experiencing (and may as well be for every platform but no sure) the same AND an annoying player mic bug

I'm seeing at the bottom right corner of my screen a player's username that is in Area Chat pop up for a split second with their voice, only for it to disappear, and reappear constantly. it pops up every 2 seconds with half to a second of their mic audio.

This happens when i'm not in area chat, and still happens and is audible while i'm in guild or group chats, even in PSN party chat it continues though at least i can't hear it in party chat.

This also cannot go away. Restarting the game, uninstalling and reinstalling, clearing cache etc does not help, nor does changing zones help. whatever zone i spawn in and whoever decides to chat that same moment until they log off, i will hear that person's mic periodically, no matter where i am in the game. I could be in a veteran dungeon and they could be in Summerset and i still hear them

I had originally made a lighthearted post making fun of that, but I’m just tired.
