Original tutorial is back, "new" one retired. Is there a chance of getting DLC tuts back again?

Even though I've been around since (almost) launch, I am still WAAAAYYYYYY behind on the DLCs (still doing Western Skyrim atm), so I feel like I missed out on a lot of the new tutorials. I think I only got to see like one or two of them.

Any chance for new characters (or old?) to be able to play through those tutorial zones? I remember for example that one of them in Elsweyr was pretty interesting and set up the story in a decent way.

Or are these consigned to Oblivion forever?

I'd love it if my main character who was created at launch in 2014 could finally be allowed to complete the Morrowind tutorial and get that skill point that I'm unable to get... Sure it's only one skill point, but this should've never happened...

I think it's a waste they created them just to trash them later. I think they should give people a choice which tutorial they want to play after character creation. Maybe by letting them choose the region they want to start the game in from a list during character creation (or as a seperate menu right after that).

It would be nice to have a way to play the Chapter tutorials again because I agree that they introduced the zone quite well.

Overall, though, I really like the decision to bring the original tutorial back. It's integral to the main story, and it was a real shame that new players had a very high chance to never stumble upon it.

I really didn't care for the Balfiera tutorial. It was overly generic, had nothing to do with any of ESO's other story lines, had the usual old mumbojumbo about being The Chosen One, without any connection to what the game is actually about, story-wise. It was a tutorial for one of those games where story doesn't really matter and is only a cheap conceit to explain the background images.

Could be flashbacks where you play as another character through the tutorials as part of a quest.

All the zone tutorial quests should be back. They are still on youtube and I can not believe ZOS removed them! Those smalle tutorial gave a good introduction to the zones. So why ZOS? Why remove the best of your games?

As for the current tutorial, just make an Isle of Balfiera chapter/DLC and make this one the tutorial for the dlc.

I also want an option to play any of tutorials! There is no need to remove already created content, just give us choices :)

Also, I want to share an interesting moment from Elsweyr tutorial, not sure if it was a bug or this Dragon was programmed to not attack unless provoked:

    💯

Have said this before myself; rework them to be an initial intro to the zone when you travel there the first time. Some of them were really great.

I liked them very much, but wouldn't it be a litte weird if the player character ends up being a prisoner all the time?

You can skip them if you like; but you do not have to! Technically every player should start as a Prisoner if ESO is staying lore friendly!

I’m still upset about what I did when Elsweyr was released. I created a new character, played through the tutorial, and realized I didn’t like the way the character looked, something very minor so I redid the character and skipped the tutorial, losing the skill point. The completionist in me still regrets that to this day even though it’s just 1 point.

Yes, but not every time the character enters a chapter/dlc zone :D The suggestion was to make the old tutorials the starter quest for every zone. So the player character would start in Coldharbour, then, when entering Vvardenfell, get caught by slavers, then get caught by the witches when entering Skyrim... That would be a bit much.

Oh, I assumed they'd still be optional even if they were made the starter quest for each zone.

I think the combat tutorial in Balfora (and I think Elswyr had one too) was helpful. The original tutorial is possible to finish without knowing how to block, roll, heavy attack.

I'd like to see ZOS add a combat tutorial that new players can access and repeat as needed. Maybe at level 1, you figured out interrupting but by level 8, you forgot so back to the tutorial to relearn.

Slightly off topic but I didn't realise this was happening and that is FANTASTIC news for new players that should hopefully make the current new player experience less of a complete and utter mess.

It's pretty weird to be playing a game for several months before you even find out there's a main quest (and then discovering that you've managed to cut it into pieces by doing things out of order!). So much of the game just didn't make sense in an utterly horrible "what is this mess" way without knowing it was there.

Although I would love to be able to play through the old tutorials, I'm not sure how they could be incorporated into the zones' questlines, since each tutorial was written as though the player's character is just getting started, doesn't remember anything from before, needs to be taught how to fight, etc. Once our characters have become established in the world, it wouldn't really make much sense for them to develop amnesia each time they're beginning the questline for another chapter.

What, they do not? The dialogues often look otherwise.

I'm happy about the change. We need a timeline in this game if we want our character to have any sort of progression.

The best Dlc quest zones are those that in some way impact the overall story with characters that do indeed have a permanent development inside them.

The main reason why we can't have a timeline are the dlc need to be the "new zone accessible to everyone".
    Removing the tutorials helps.

I'm tired of having a story stuck in time witout an overall narrative.

I think it's fantastic they're going back to the soul shriven tutorial, seems better for new players, and makes the story make sense.
Also the things they mentioned about gradual introduction to systems seems like a good step. I've often thought it's too difficult to start such a huge game at this point.
But I still haven't played the other tutorials (I didn't known there was a deadline), and I'm sad the content has been removed completely.

Wasn't there a point where you could choose different doors and get to experience them on a new character?

Some are, sort of anyway. Morrowind tutorial and Summerset tutorial have a side quest for those who already did the original Coldharbour one back in the day. It's not the full tutorial but it's in the same place. The original is still available too, just have to talk to someone, see a hooded person and get KO'd now.

I wish they'd make a side quest for the Western Skyrim one though, that area was sooo big and it was nostalgic because that ruin was in Skyrim.

Forgot to mention that I am going to miss the current one and I hope that this is seriously the last tutorial change. Interested to see what gets tweaked with Soul Shriven one.

Personally, I think the portal cave made the new player experience even worse than starting in a chapter (which itself was not a good idea since people then didn't realise the game had a main quest, making for a truly horrible introduction to the game).

With the portal cave, the game said "you can start here, here or here", without any indication whatever of what that would entail and, again, hiding that there was a main quest. Instead of one confusing situation, it allowed new players to choose between *many* confusing situations with no guidance whatever!

All the tutorials had a combat tutorial section. Even the Coldharbour one has combat help, though it's easier to ignore and more spread out, iirc; and I think they even removed some of it when they reworked parts of the Coldharbour intro. I assume that's why they're adapting it again to make the tutorial part more obvious and harder to miss, like they did in the newer ones.

Having a mini-tutorial that you can return to, would be an excellent idea, yes.

I haven't ever been there, so I didn't know it didn't include the main quest. I just assumed it did since that makes the most sense, and I also assumed it was sort of highlighted in a way that said: "start here if you're completely new to eso, it's the main quest".
It does sound like an illogical decision not to describe things better and include main quest.
