This screenshot shows the X that is missing today on the English forums. When clicked it dismisses the announcements. This is the first time I've seen this happen in all the years I've been using these forums.

Yes, the X is missing today to dismiss the announcements. And I have never seen this before on these forums.

ZOS, please fix this when you get a chance. Since this is Friday evening the start of a three day weekend in the US where ZOS is based, I expect it will take until Tuesday when folks get back into the office to address this.

It may not be a glitch, but a new standard.

That is EXACTLY what I asked in the original post.

So, I doubt it's an "obvious glitch":
It is an obvious glitch and bears looking into.

If there's the possibility of it being a new feature, then we can't say for sure what the intention behind the change is. Unannounced changes like these happen all the time, especially in ESO itself. Many of those changes stick around, despite bug reports, and we just have to assume that they're either low priority bugs or unannounced features.

I'm not able to dismiss it, but I usually don't dismiss it, anyway. It's a non-issue.

Amazing how people dismiss any concerns if they don't personally care about them. Removing a feature is not good.

What concerns are there? On desktop and mobile, you only have to scroll down to get to the content you want to read. The announcement box only takes up space on the top of the web page — it's easily ignored by browsing the website as usual. I fail to understand why this is such a pressing issue.

It is a feature change that is for the worst. Why is that a problem for you?

Though this is the exact reasons so many requests turn the wrong way in the forums. Too many will like whatever and then dismiss any concerns. While saying "I like the change" is perfectly fine, saying "why is it a problem" puts the burden on the one who doesn't like (or wants) a change.

You never had to close it anyway, so this "change" doesn't help you at all, it just removes something others used.

They don't follow me down the screen but every time I open the forums, or change which forum I am looking at, or go to another page in a thread they return.

It is very intrusive and has never happened until today, so I hope they are able to fix this soon. Being a 3 day holiday weekend I am afraid they may not see this until Tuesday.

I don't think it was purposely removed. All the other forums, German, French, etc., still have the X. I think it just glitched but we just have to wait until someone sees this thread and clears it up for us.

I'm already using the desktop site because I like how it functions better. All I had to do to enable it was click the 3 dots at the upper right corner to open the menu, scroll down to "Desktop site" and check the box next to it.

I'm usually able to click an X at the upper right corner of the Announcements on the Forums, but today that X is not there. There is a huge block of Announcements today and I'd really like to dismiss them.

I hope this is just a glitch and not a new feature.

There have been times when I stop receiving notification boxes at the top of the forum. Since I don't pay attention to missing notifications, I have no idea how long I was not seeing those notifications, or why. I suspect that this is because I have clicked on the X and the forum remembers. It could have been days or weeks earlier that I did this.

This has happened to me more than once over the years. I honestly can't say how many times because I don't pay attention to missed notifications that I cannot see unless someone points out one and I realize it is not visible for me.

There could be a forum glitch where the notifications don't re-appear, or it could be a problem with ZOS processes for creating, editing, or publishing notifications. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ No matter, I don't want my click on the X to mean I won't receive future notifications. There is no "undo" or "reset" that I have found.

In lieu of correcting whatever makes the notifications disappear and not reappear, I think that not allowing them to be dismissed might be a good idea.

The X doesn't permanently stop new notifications from being displayed. It only dismisses the current ones. Once a poster has read the current notifications there is no need to force them to stay in their face.

I get sad when I accidentally hit x and can't get the announcement back again :( It's more official to have it always there for not forgetting.

If that is an issue for some then request an Announcements tab that can be opened to read them again.

But this thread is about not having the ability to do something we have always been able to do. The fact that it is just on the English forums points to it being a glitch and I hope they fix this soon because I find this huge block of text irritating and intrusive.

Maybe there should be an expandable section that is open by default to show the list of current announcements. When the user wants to hide that information, they can collapse it into a button that remains on the top of the screen, which can be clicked again to expand the list once more.

In essence, this sort of element which can be toggled at will:

I don't want to bother the developers for a tab when having it always there is a simple elegant solution which I am enjoying much. :(

But I do like Erickson9610's idea though because it's helpful.

Not being able to dismiss the Announcements is NOT a solution... it is an ERROR going on with the English forums. Players can not click the X if they don't want to, just like it has been for many years now. But this error needs to be resolved.

well...it is perhaps a matter of perspective. for one who mistakes and accidentally hits this x often, it becomes a solution, but for one who dislikes it, it's an error. :)

i will make the choice of viewing it as a positive change while I get the chance to enjoy it, and perhaps the person who handles this site will see my love for it, and will implement a nice tab system so that we can all be happy in the end.

i think that's a good resolution for me.

Regardless of a player's preference, this IS an error that needs to be dealt with. Players that have suggetions for what they would like to see can make a thread requesting that, but the topic of this thread is a glitch being reported and asking for assistance with it.

No, it's an error/bug. As people have already mentioned several times in this thread, the 'x' button to dismiss the announcement is still present in various non-English versions of the forum, so it's only this one which has the bug. They all use the same forum software framework.

It's obviously an error but sometimes bugs can become features. I don't see this as a high priority fix but I'm sure it will get resolved eventually. Hopefully in a way that is useful for those that like the bug and those who are bothered by it.

For those of us who routinely dismissed these huge blocks of Announcements for many many years it IS an issue and a priority. It's as bad as having a popup ad constantly in our face. And that is the subject of this thread.
