Seems worse today, skills don't fire off, yet the sound does. Lag for movement at westweld events. What has ZOS done to make this so bad?

Really bad tonight as well. Massive slide show doing anything. Some moments it would be just fine then 600-999 ping for an extended period of time. Progressively getting worse and worse each day.

Did the team scrap the code refactoring effort? There was a thread a while back (year+ now) that talked about it and I thought there was going to be some updates about that periodically but that thread kind of fell off the cliff (or maybe something was decided on it and I'm just unaware).

But.... the lag now is so bad in PvE as well which is odd to me. Sure, we are used to this level of performance on the PvP side.. it's been like this for so many years but now it's all over PvE and making it really difficult to even do writs.

yes they stopped responding to the thread, then it dissappeared, then it came back then it dissapeared again.
they stopped referring to refactoring and started calling it threading and then we all knoew.

Als Kevin, "We know the server is on fire, but we need testing to see how hot the fire is.
We'll update you we know how hot it is"

Later. Kevin "Its so hot. we'll update you later"

Later ............. crickets. (still on fire though)

When you crash or dc in combat you pretty consistently get stuck in a state where you can not get back on for 2-5 mins. Super delayed and frustrating.

Its been really really bad since yesterday. I know not everybody has issues but yesterday night in a 2hour raid session almost half the group had disconnects throughout the thing. I've been having maybe 3-5 second freezes, then either it catches up or i disconnect. have no issues outside ESO, only started doing this yesterday morning. hope it gets addressed.

It looks like every weekend the rate of DCs and lagspikes increases. Clearly something to do with how many people are active online.

I've said this about 10 times throughout this thread but the trick is to wait.

IF you're in a group when you DC you need to have your members tell you when you're offline - then try to login.

If you try to log right back in you will almost always get put in that 5 min time out bug (which if you're in cyro throws you out and makes you get back in queue (rip 100+ q).

The best thing you can do is wait about a minute before trying to log in. If you're in cyro you have roughly 5 minutes to get back in before it kicks you to overland.

Okay - thats kind of what I thought happened but wasn't sure. Disappointing. I'm assuming the decision was made that it's not financially worth it for them to invest in refactoring the game but....

I'd challenge anyone in a leadership role in the company to factor in technical debt they have because they refuse to refactor the code. This is a conversation that hassssssss to happen (most leaders don't even know what technical debt is so it's never even discussed).

I've seen the complaint in zone chat, but every time I checked /latency it was fine. Sure it's not y'alls internet connection? your ISP could be having an issue even if it's just pinging one specific location, make sure it's whitelisted everywhere it can be and set all your ports properly/etc.

definitely not an internet issue, as many have stated they can run other applications / open other games and it runs fine. this is a server issue for sure for specific servers

Do you pvp? there is 2 conversations that have been going on in this thread.
One is the slight problem of PVE lag, and the other is the massive problem in Cyrodiil lag.

PVE may be ISP for the ones seeing it most.
PVP is not. when I run ping tests to anything that doesn't belong to ZOS its usually around 12-28ms.

    .

You might think that, it would be logical, however my wife and I play ESO together and sometimes one of us has extreme latency in-game beyond unplayable and the other does not. If it was the ISP, then we should both be having the same issues. But this is not the case.

It's easy to blame the ISP, despite first-line fault finding indicating otherwise.

I don't think it's a matter of technical debt. You can refactor endlessly, but when the issue is with the servers, it doesn't solve anything. If the problem were in the code, everyone would be experiencing exact same issues. But we see that only a portion of the players are affected simultaniously. This kind of suggests that the questions should be directed not at the programmers, but at the administrators of the whole system.

They just upgraded the servers last year and we are right back to where we are. It's not the servers.

Now - are the servers configured improperly some how... sure that is possible. But throwing money and hardware at the issue didn't fix it.

It wasn't exactly a server upgrade. It was replacing "some parts" so that "future compatibility" would be easier. They didn't actually move the servers to MS Azure cloud or anything - not even more modern racks/blades. If they had, they'd have very proudly announced it. [And if I'm wrong there, I'd very much like for the IT guys to correct me and then explain to EVERYONE what's going on here.... because I STILL do not have any of these issues y'all are seeing, which I find pretty odd entirely since my only "broadband" connection is satellite....]

I'm not saying you're wrong... but I find it impossible you play PC/NA/Grayhost and have never experience the issues described in this long thread.

Well, I can't prove it to you, and I'm not doubting your own (or others') experience, but I haven't ever had these issues - the last time things were even somewhat "slow" was back when I still had WildBlue satellite. I replaced WildBlue with HughesNet in late May of 2018, and while as per normal satellite has its own sort of lag, it's never been anything like what you all are dealing with - or what I was dealing with when my connection was WildBlue.

Also, while I don't connect to PC NA during prime time, I also do not play pvp or pve endgame. I DO play PC EU prime time (because I play from around 7am MDT to about 2pm MDT so add about 9 hours there) but I still don't play pvp or pve endgame. So for me, I just don't have any issues such as all of you in this thread do.

All I was addressing in my post above was that the "server upgrades" were not "brand new modern up to date TODAY" servers - it was other "improvements" stated up front by the company as not likely to improve performance. It appeared at the time that some did see performance improvements though I couldn't say that from personal experience, only from posts on this forum at the time.

Somebody posted a Chinese script in the Vvardenfell zone chat today, I was right in the middle of picking a pocket when it dropped and my screen froze for a couple seconds. Never seen anything like that before, although I've heard of chat script exploits in Cyrodiil being used to lag people out. But this was just one line of text with some numbers, looked like someone trying to sell in ZC.

999+ ping while trying to access guild bank at Vivec City. Players and NPCs took around a minute to render. Got kicked a total of 3 times to login screen with the usual error messages. I wasn't doing any group PVE or PVP.

Quit and played FO76 instead. Performance in this game is buttery smooth, unlike ESO.
