I think development time could've been spent on something else more important or another better feature.
I wish they would fx the (outside of Veteran Hardcore) non existant difficulty in this game. Then give us some more weapons. Weve been stuck on the same weapons since day one.
    Do fluffcontent after that.

I vote other because I'm sure there will be a slew of new achievements coming with this card game, and it's probably one of the reasons they are getting rid of individual character achievements and moving to account wide achievements only. Don't get me wrong, I would have been happy for account wide achievements in addition to character wide like WoW has, but nope, characters are getting gutted, there's a slew of bugs on PTS not acknowledged that will be released with AwA (and your alts are getting shafted out of some repeatable content and narrative cohesion), and I feel like the card game will be partially responsible for this.

I think they already had a designed card game, why not plug it in to ESO for a cash grab. We are all such fan boys and girls that we drink this Koolaid down and ask for more. I bought the Chapter, I buy crowns, I sub 3 accounts in my house - I am part of the problem.

Part of me doesn’t even blame them - they are a business - their first order of business is to make money. I’m sure they were like hey, we don’t even have to pay a team to design a new feature this year, plug this card game in, they’ll drink it down. Might I have another sir?

To be fair, I think the shuffling would also make selling cards for real money much harder. There’s no real point in buying extremely powerful cards if there’s a 50% chance that you adversary will get it and wreck you.

In fact, I think the deck building in this game would probably be more about knowing the cards you bring and how to counter them as well as predicting the cards that your adversary brought and how to use them to your advantage.

Overall, I think the card game could be interesting but we don’t know much about it yet. The decision to implement a card game is also pretty weird too but i think it probably has to do with ressources being put on big deep rooted problems with the game or maybe even for training purposes.

While that is true, the decision to shuffle the decks together is what allows them to sell cards at all. They have a strict "No Pay To Win" policy with their own rules. Its one of the reason the armorer assistant doesn't work in certain locations so that it isn't giving the people who bought it an advantage.

I would love to be wrong. I would love to see the feature launch and there is no way to buy cards/booster packs. Everything is acquired with in game gold or by playing other players/NPCs. Maybe even rare cards drop from specific bosses.

But I am pessimistic about this given their track record.

I do not enjoy card games and I certainly would not enjoy paying for a game that locks rewards behind playing a card game I did not buy the game to do or want to do.

If I wanted to play cards I would not be putting money into ESO, I would buy a card game.

Development resources could have been spent better. Can't believe I have spent + money so they can develop a card game.

As many have mentioned there are issues such as performance, not enough information etc. If I want to play solitaire or online poker I'd go do that instead of paying for ESO+. Gwent didn't interest me and I doubt this one will. I'm worried it will just be another cash grab/grind implemented at low cost.

In addition to all the valid reasons posted previously about why a 90's era card game is an utter disappointment, another problem I have with is is the massive bait-and-switch ZOS pulled with the previews (Yes, I know it wasn't technically a bait-and-switch but that's the first thing that came to mind).

When many of us saw those amazing warships sailing on rough seas and the pirate theme, we bit. We fell for it. Many of us truly believed ESO was getting ships in some form or another. On one extreme, I thought we could be getting a complete ship system where you could buy a small boat, learn to sail it, and gain "XP" to upgrade it into, eventually, a full galleon . We could start with a solo craft and eventually add a crew, weapons, etc. THAT got me excited.

Realistically, I knew that was probably not going to happen but some form of a player-controlled, upgradable ship and crew seemed like the central feature based on the trailers.

So imagine going from THAT to a digital card game. I felt like Clark Grizzwold getting a year long subscription to the Jelly of the Month club when he was expecting a cash bonus to buy a swimming pool.

So a card game, as a minor feature of some mid-year update would have been "meh...ok...but meh," having that as the key feature when they teased Assassin's Creed Black Flag was crushing.

I jokingly said we would get a Sploosh Kaboom mini-game as the main feature before the reveal, and then this happened, lol.

I guess the lesson for 2022 should be, don't set your expectations high lest you be disappointed. I'm betting the most value peeps will get from the new High Isle "chapter" are two new (potentially op) passives unlocked from max-leveling the new companions. The card game just sounds like it will be another passive system that can be heavily monetized with no real effect on the game as a whole. I dare them to prove me wrong for once.

    New class?
    New weapons?
    Third morphs?
New mechanics within the combat system?
New skill lines for each of the current classes?

It’s not that the card game is bad, but rather that we have not received ANY true addition to ESO’s combat since 2019 with the release of the Necromancer class. We will now need to wait until at least 2023 to get something. Anyway more Vet players will leave :/ Was there anyone asking for a card game??

I have decided to vote with my wallet. I will probably eventually get the chapter for the trial, but I am not going to pre-order and will likely wait until it goes on sale. I have pre-ordered every other chapter and literally dumped 1000's of dollars into this game. I just cancelled my Sub, and will reevaluate once my ESO+ runs out in May.

I am not paying for a card game that I have no interest in playing. It's somewhere between a distraction and a cruel joke, or maybe both. If it becomes clear that I need to play the card game for META mythic leads in either PVE or PVP, I will likely be done with ESO.

Matt and Rich said this was a "much asked for feature".
As I have been on forums since 2013, I only remember it coming up just here and there.
So I searched mini games and here is the link:
    https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/search?Page=&Search=mini+games

Yes, mini games have been requested, but, they were things like in-game games like "Snip & Tails", "Pin the Tail on the Khajiit",
Tavern games that bet with gold, Chess, Horse Races, Frog Races, etc.
A rehashed "Legends" was no where in the requests.
I myself have no problems with the new card game as I played MTG for years.
BUT! The fact the are implementing AwA and use "saving data space" as an excuse, then add this with it's achievements and leader boards and MORE data at the expense of all my alt's history is unacceptable.
And the fact that this card game is a "Major Feature" in a full price Chapter?

So pretty much what I guessed then. Those who asked for minigames wanted something fun, easy and realistic-ish. Not an in-game collectible card game, that just doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

    I don't dislike it, I even think it's interesting.

But with everything else going on in and with the game, I feel like this was not a priority and therefore not a good addition to the game right now.

This feature feels like it would be a better addition AFTER the game received its much needed update, the majority of bugs were fixed (oldest first), maybe a new class (at the very least a new guild skill line), a whole host of QoL additions, etc...

And then maybe if the game was in a more stable place then a "hey, here's this cool new mini-game" would have been a way more welcome addition.

I would've liked to see something meatier than a card game considering that's the main feature, but I'll reserve full judgement until I try it. I didn't think I would like antiquities either but that's actually grown on me, so maybe this will too. After all, ESO is a game that really gives players a diverse amount of things they can do, this is one of those things. It might not appeal to everyone, but to some it will :)

I wish they’d give us more info on the card game. Maybe some fun videos to show it in action. Some more detail! That way I can stop reading only about how upset people are over it, and actually read some educated opinions on the card game itself, and not that it’s a “crappy main feature” or “waste of resources” or how people don’t want a card game.

I can't stop thinking about all the things ZOS should be prioritizing before a card game.

They really are just phoning it in now with ESO. They aren't even trying anymore I don't think. What exactly is the "it" in the phrase "We're working on it" anyway? ....because they sure as hell don't seem to be working on any actual game improvements despite nearly 5 years of promises with no results.

I'm with you , there's A LOT that's higher priority than this. And I was hopeful about the post by Matt talking about fixing server architecture this year, but I learned theyve been saying similar things for like 5 years lol.

Big difference today is ZOS is now bankrolled I think by Microsoft. Before the buy out, ZOS depending a lot on outside investors to finance their efforts. And with investors , things can't get pretty darn stressful paying all that back and meeting contract mile stones.
Now that kind of stress should be gone. It's not that they no longer have to make a profit , they still have to answer to Microsoft.

But Microsoft is supposed to be pretty cool with developers , giving them space and not micro managing. So when will all the perks off being owned by Microsoft kick in? It's been at least a year or so?

Many of us were expecting a fast turn around , with Microsoft taking over. I think we are expecting them to throw ZOS a blank check to do everything they need to do, so we are waiting to see ESO receive massive amazing upgrades, like a new game engine, a brand new top of the line server, etc.
You would think this would happen soon or at least by now, but I don't know for sure.

It would help if ZOS was just more transparent with the players. But they aren't. So they take a very safe position of "less is more " , don't talk too much, just tell them we are working on it, and then vanish. Give them a non combat pet, a new reskin of a fawn animal. Lol

So ya, the frustration is real in the community.
I just hear you loud and clear. ZOS needs to community a lot more and more frequently with the players.

I look at games like Path Of Exile, whose devs make the game completely free, no pay to win AT ALL, and these guys ( Grinding Gear Games) still make huge profits through cosmetic micro transactions and other stuff called Supporter Packs. How can they do this???
Because they prove time and time again to be close to their players, and actually prove they listen. And even have some of their top players help with development process. It's an incredible example of how live service games can be done RIGHT and ETHICALLY. And the fans reward the dev team with lots of financial support.

Another awesome example of this is Digital Extremes, offering a completely free to play game, with Warframe, all content is free, and yet they can still maintain that game and make tons of money. And Warframe is HUGE. With tons of pve content and even huge open world content. It's astonishing. And what does Digital Extremes do ? They stay connected all the time to their fans and players. And they listen. They even admit when they are wrong. It's incredible.

Take notes ZOS. Stop taking the fans for granted. You cant just live off the fame of the "Elder Scrolls" name and continue to phone in the "content". But I know, I know, You're all "working on it"

    I don't play/like card games.
I don't really care for games within the game I'm trying to play.

If I wanted to play a card game, then I would play one, not log into an MMO to play one. Same way I felt about antiquities - if I wanted to play a simple puzzle game, I can load one on my phone.

Not taking anything away from those that like it, I can see why some are into it. I've seen how many enjoy stuff like Gwent in Witcher.

Personally I'd rather there be more quick playing pub type games in the inns that you can play with NPC or other players, something more akin to playing chess, checkers or poker. Not something you have to chase around and collect cards for.

So I guess for me personally it's just another feature being added that will have zero impact for me. So it feels like I'll not only be getting less chapter for my money this year in just size, but also features that come with the chapter.

I didn't care for companion system last year. Don't use 'em. I unlocked them on one character and haven't even leveled them much. So that was a big nothingburger for me, and this year getting cards and more companions. Again, a personal problem, but nevertheless it is one for me.

Though when they start tying (interesting) titles (that aren't like directly about the card game and could apply to other activities), or achievements, rewards, etc. to the game and forcing me to play it, then the problem grows.

All-in-all the last few years of this game have been lackluster for me - I don't like the antiquities mini-game (though I do like the furnishings and drops - but not RNG - at least). I don't like companions. I don't like adventuring in hellish landscapes like the deadlands (I don't mind a trek or two there and back, but I don't care to hang out and explore them) so that DLC felt about half as useful as a normal one and now with card game coming that I don't like it's just meh for me. On top of that the actual adventuring content seems less and less every year.

I was not in favour of companions when they were first announced… but in their current state (partially-functional with addons), I don’t mind them. I feel the same way about the card game - We haven’t had much info at this stage so I’m willing to hold off on judgement until we know more.

I don't think a card game makes sense in ESO. ESO is a mmorpg not a card game.

I do somewhat blame them since they have limited resources AND shoving a card game into an MMO is a rather foolish idea. The two do not inherently go together. Maybe we can start playing board games in Tamriel next year!

I should also add my agreement that I expect them to sell things for this in the Crown store, coming close to "pay to win" for this element. It may be "acceptable" since it is not the primary part of the game for most. Although it would more likely be random card packs rather than specific cards, just like most other CCGs in the physical space.

I haven't seen it yet so I can't really form an opinion.

I enjoyed Gwent in TW3, too much in fact, but this was a single player game and it was just playing for the sake of playing.

I sincerely hope they don't tie 'needful things' - like the mythics are tied to antiquities for instance - to it.

If it turns out that I don't enjoy it as much in the ESO setting I would very much like to be able to ignore it altogether.

The category of 'things that you don't particularly enjoy but you must engage on' is already adequately filled by PvP, I don't really need another one.
