Magicka Templar SOL in PvP??

Seabhacgra
I wonder if anyone can help out here,.. seems like no matter the build I try, I get wrecked 1v1 or in small groups.. larger groups I'm ok in,.. I stay back and heal and nuke. Problem is I'm REALLY getting tired of being splattered like a zit on a teenager's pimpled face by any other class than my own. Sorcs got ridiculous speed and shields that could stop Godzilla's nuclear breath,.. Nightblade's have ridiculous burst damage that if it doesn't splat me in the initial assault, they just cloak in and out till either mobs kill me because they only see me or they burst me down a 2nd time.. DK's just charge in, and burst wrecking blow and others.. point being, as a Magicka Templar in all light, I know I'm squishy, I know I'm not top notch in PvP, but there has got to be a build or combination to counter this all.. and I'm sorry but IC was MADE for Nightblades,.. I must see 90% of players in there Nightblades,.. I have no idea how to counter them..

Can anyone offer any advice or builds to help out?? I'd really appreciate any chance to survive past a few seconds every time I see another player of an opposing faction. THANKS!!

Re-roll a sorc, or stam night blade... **sighs

Pretty much the best way to play IC is run a Stamblade and wait for someone to get worn down by a mob and hit them with focused aim for the kill shot. lol

The only real solution to your problem is a re-roll, or if they actually made IC a PVP zone, instead of this hybrid thing they have gone with.

Real PVP would be great, but it'll never happen.

Can't really offer advice other then Shieldbreaker for Sorcs, but I can help with the other classes at least. Also, running around in all light is just asking for trouble if you don't have an ally to back you up.

    For Nightblades:
    • Radiant Magelight. Seriously, this skill prevents you from being one shotted by any stealth combo the Nightblade will try. Use it till you are more confidant in dealing with the damage.
    • Channeled Focus. Offers you a bunch of bonus armor and spell resist, as well as increasing healing done due to Focused Healing, thereby offsetting somewhat the effect of Major Defile.
    • Heavy Armor. Boosts up your mitigation really nicely. For extra trolling, use a 5pc Armor Master w Shuffle/Immovable or 5pc Reactive Armor
    • Stamina Regeneration. You need this to break CC-es. Really.
    • Purifying Ritual. Purge off those debuffs/DoTs as well as activating the bonus from Focused Healing

    For Dragonknights:
    • Heavy Armor. You wear this for the same reason you wear this vs Nightblades
    • Stamina Regeneration. For CC Breaking.
    • Purifying Ritual. Magicka DK damage is mostly DoT based, so purging it off would help
    • Unstable Core. This morph has a more subtle animation then the other morphs. This will allow projectile attacks vs the DK, as any projectiles reflected by his flap flaps will be reflected back at him (And reflected projectiles cannot be dodged).
    • Dark Flare. Places Major Defile on the DK, reducing his healing to pitiful numbers.

    For Everyone:
    • Situational Awareness. Be alert. Most deaths in PvP occur when you are not paying attention to your surroundings.
    • Work in a team. This isn't a solo game. Get a few friends and work together. Templars are like pawns on the chessboard. Weak and easy to kill solo, but nearly unstoppable in numbers. Work off the support ability of the Templars to support and keep each other alive

This one does not advocate for any class to be nerfed. There are far deeper underlying issues then a simple "Class Imbalance". The Champion System is the problem. Not classes.

Many of US stopped playing, mate! So most answers you get are from hardcore gamers (x-chars) or from pure group-healers, that think following a crown and pushing the buttons on command, while spamming cleanse, hots, b-spear and BoL, etc., makes them good players. The third group is made of the guys that have to add their 2 cents everywhere..
Most of these guys won't admit all the negatives of a Templar, instead you'll hear how good you are, or have to be! :|

If the nightblade knows how to play vs. a templar, you die! Plain and simple!

OP you are not a lost cause good sire. I talked to another Templar main on PS4 who is running into similar issues. Too squishy. I have a lot of experience being ganked and ganged up on in Cyrodiil/IC, and I usually(not willingly) get thrown into 1VX fights and have come out on top. I am mostly alone when I pvp.

What do you want to do with your Templar? You can run in groups inside of pvp or pve. But you are talking about a lot of situations in your original post that sounds like you haven't figured out what to do in those situations. There is no counter necessarily. The trick is simply this -- use abilities that out heal damage, remove debuffs and keep up good pressure n' momentum with DoTs and Sweep. Templar can do this extremely well.

    Just a few things:

Enough stamina to break cc every 7-8 sec. This is the most crucial part of PvP for classes without mobility and with block nerf, like templar and dk. Especially since skills like Puncturing Sweep and Radiant Oppression are channelled and leaves you completely open.

Efficient Purge/Purifying Ritual, you need it non-stop now to deal with all the heal debuffs, armor debuffs, DoT's and snares.

Buff incoming and outgoing healing. Heals are your best defence now when block and dodge rapes your stamina, but need to work against that -50% reduction.

I use Channelled Focus to keep up magicka regen, mitigations and Focused Healing for 30% bigger heals. If you run max recovery build, you might be better of using something else.

Mist Form. While it's not a legit escape skill, it still mitigates 75% dmg and gives movement speed. The only chance you have of survival really when focused by multiple players. Vampire is more or less mandatory for magicka light armor templar, unless you only play raid healer.

Magicka templar is actually quite strong right now ... which is odd because it was lacking before.

Succeeding at any class is mostly about overall PvP experience. Instinctively reacting to dangerous situations rather than thinking them over. Having a sixth sense. Knowing what type of skills are useful and what ones are not. Stuff like that. You are a Soul Shriven so forgive me if I am being presumptuous.

I don't think magicka templars need heavy armor as their ability to heal themselves is their best means of defense. You want at least 5 pieces of light armor to keep the magicka flowing and your skills strong. Your best means of attack is without a doubt, puncturing sweep. Get into an opponents face and spam this skill as it does good damage, heals you, knocks-back the enemy. Even if they start fighting back, keep spamming it. It puts a tremendous amount of pressure on any opponent, they will try to move out of the way. I find the "toppling charge" skill exceedingly useful an an opener before spamming puncturing sweep and as a means to chase down people who try to escape. Use Radiant destruction to finish off weakened enemies.

The hardest part about playing a templar is surviving when the odds turn against you. You really need an escape and that means becoming a vampire to use elusive mist. Make liberal use of the purifying ritual skill. Whenever you are rooted, maimed, mangled, dotted, use it and all those go away. As long as your are not CCed, you can use breathe of life to heal yourself or elusive mist to re-position so you have to have to have to have a good stamina recovery. I strongly recommend drinks. Bind the interrupt sequence of left-click, right-click to a single key that is super easy to immediately press and use it when you get feared, stunned, or knocked down.

You just run with groups until ZOS pulls their head out and nerfs cloak into oblivion and all these flavor of the month losers move to other classes.

If it's a skilled magicka nightblade, there isn't a thing you can do, worst thing you can do is chase them around the sewers. You can try to outlast them and hope someone helps, but if you're solo then often the best course of action is to suicide on mobs and release to save your stones and time.

Charge and spears is one of the counters to NB's cloak (if you can catch them at that split second when they are visible. I believe the charge still follows through to the target. But I could be wrong.

Direct pressure and a good escape are very much a counter to NB.

Also good advice on emphasis on Templar heals, most people forget we have burst class heals, native HOT spell with a purge component, armor buff spell and a passive that buffs our healing when below a certain percentage.
