Unable to connect....

  • gashuffer75
Hey, folks. Can you try two things for us?
    1. Log in to the opposite server (either EU or NA), then log back into your proper server.
    2. Turn your console totally off for 5 minutes, then turn it back on.

Tried both of these multiple times. I can log in to EU fine. NA, not so much. Character load always times out and drops me. I clearly have an internet connection as I get that far every time.

    Any other suggestions ZOS?

For what it's worth, we do have players in-game, so it's not a simple blanket issue. Again, please work with CS to go through the steps. This helps us narrow down where the issue ultimately lies. We know you're frustrated and just want to play, but we need to get some info from you guys which we do collect when you submit a ticket. Also keep in mind that Support may be a little backed up so if you haven't received a response yet, they may just be busy.

Thanks again, everyone. We'll continue to work through this.

If CS finds solutions for others, please spread the word here. It may lighten their load.

On hold with your CS right now for over 30 minutes. This is absurd. CS tickets take forever, you don't answer your phones ... Can ya see why most of us are past frustrated and irritated and are embarking on full blown pissed off?

Are we going to get any compensation for this? Many of us pay for ESO Plus which we pay for a month. Not being able to play due to problems on your end is basically stealing. Furthermore, much of this game is time locked. Crafting writs, horse training, bounties, undaunted pledges, hirelings, and research all take time or can only be done once a day. Many of us do these every day in order to maximize our game. Having days of play time taken away is, once again, stealing from us due to the time walls you've set up. This is ridiculous.

I sooooo agree -- There has not been a shut down of the server since the update... server this size needs at least once a week a shut down and restart to clean all cache files and bring services up online properly.

I posted somewhat of a simple fix on page 3. If you cannot login it's probably because you logged off in a high traffic area. I also logged off in a high traffic area and was able to login after multiple attempts. Once you login, get out of that area and stay out. Avoid using the wayshrines to teleport inside towns and the wayshrines in towns to port out. Teleport to wayshrines near small low traffic towns and run to the town. Avoid doors that have loading screens, but you can get inside those doors at about the 3rd-4th attempt but when you want to leave that place the best way to do so is teleport via the map to the nearest waysrhrine. Remember turning you Xbox off doesn't reset your game.... You must go to the dashboard and press the pause button over ESO and click quit game and then try to login. I've had many successful attempts logging in do this. So your best bet when you finally login is to avoid high traffic towns, avoid using wayshrines to and out of towns, and doors with loading screens.

Some improvement atm - have been able to use wayshrines, and fast travel. Have NOT tried any dungeons etc. Still some lag, oh, havent tried logging into my other chars, but can travel --- sad tho --- maps are so empty compared to what I typically see

I logged off in the middle of Alik'r desert......

But, any load screens give me problems. Right now, no delvs or any quests with doors. Only world bosses, quests up to i have to go in a door and grinding.....

Ya same here for me. Literally at this moment I just logged in the Vulkhel Guard bank. Took me a few attempts but every time I got the message "Unable to connect to game server" I just backed out to the dashboard and press pause over ESO and quit game and tried again. This time i got in on the 2nd attempt. I would just try that and if you avoid all loading screens you can stay in lol.

That's not the issue for this thread.
This issue is the NA server. I can sometimes get on but if I get to any load screens it will kick me after a long loading screen. Then I'm unable to log on for 5 mins - 1 hour.

It's only the NA server and nothing to do with where chars are parked as many of us can't get to the character screen

I can log into EU server / character without issues.
I can log into my 2nd character without any issues.

Its the first character that times out and gives me issues. Cannot log into him at all. Everywhere else, no problem.

Rebooted game, xbox, unplugged it. Doesn't make a difference.

Have posted this elsewhere but just to add my voice am having same problems with NA server. It isn't my internet as can play other games fine and logged into and loaded an EU server character without difficulty. Also was fine yesterday when I logged off. Friends are experiencing the same problem with character load, wayshrine use and anywhere with doors. Now been happening for about 12 hours.

Eventually I do get my character to load after multiple attempts and can stay in as long as don't use wayshrines etc. but the try logging into alternate server then back into preferred server and the turn off XB1 for 5 minutes then restart fixes suggested definately makes no difference for me.
  • RogerMasseyb14_ESO
I've had this same issue with my PS4, can log in briefly but can't go through doors or use wayshrines either. I can log into EU server.

Thanks for responding, but I have tried all of this and more for 2 weeks and I can tell you that the problem is getting worse by the day. This isn't since last night. Submitting a ticket is going to overwhelm your staff at CS in which it takes them 4 days to reply normally. The reply will only tell us what we already know, have done or pass the buck to another agency (MS, Sony, ISP company etc)

Please seriously look into this as a matter of urgency & tell us that you are & update the community regularly on the progress made to rectify this problem. Thank you.

Well ignore what I said then. This works for me to get to the character screen and to get past the loading screens. It use to take me up to an hour to login because all I did was constantly click A after I got disconnected. Now it only takes me 2-3 attempts and I get in every time. I never said the NA server wasn't messed up, I simple provided a guide on how to login.

This issue has been occurring for many people now. I have been unable to play for 2 days now and continue to be unable to login to me character. Hard resetting the console and switching servers does not help. My character is stuck on the bridge between stormhaven and bangkorai. Since traveling between zones or anything needing a loading screen gives this error and signs you out i cannot get into the game. I have ESO. plus and i unable to play on my days off. It is very much getting on my nerves.

I have been doing all the steps y'all have recommended and it's still not working it's on y'all end. Im tired of being stuck in one area when I can get online. If I try to travel anywhere it said maybe a long load time than im kicked so what do I do now

Here is the only work around that MIGHT work

Once u get kicked, if you have an alt parked somewhere ANd can get to the loading screen, try logging on the alt, log out and back to your main. This isn't a fix but after 13-20 tries it worked once

    TIPS:
    Don't travel or port anywhere
Don't go into a dungeon or loading screens
Try to avoid quests with loading screens or portals

Basically all I can do is grind which is terrible

Yea many of us can log on, staying on is the real problem.

I've gotten to the point where I get disconnected after choosing the character I want to play with. Seems like it's slowly getting worse and worse.
This! For me, it started at 12am this morning, the second I went to travel I got the "Unable to connect" error. Kept getting same error every time I used a wayshrine, or hit any loading screen. So I reset my modem because I'm directly hardwired into the modem, still same issue. Then i did a console hard reset, still same issue. So then I switch from NA server to EU server, then back to NA, still same issue (I can play on EU server without any issue). I did all of these things in succession and all the same issue.

What I find funny, is my boyfriend was able to play without issue when I couldn't, mind you we are on the same console. Also my alternative gamertag was also able to play without issue, but then all of a sudden after 30 mins of play time, my alt gamertag got same issue, then my boyfriend at 9am this morning started getting the same issue. Now we can't even select a character without it giving us the "Unable to connect" error. All other games work perfectly fine online, I even tried Neverwinter, runs great. So, I know for a fact it is not a router issue for me, and it is not an ISP issue.

    Edit:
As mentioned above, the loading screens seem to be part if not all of the issue. When I can load into the game, the loading screen acts like it's going to freeze but doesn't. Sometimes it loads in, most of the time it doesn't, and that's when I get the 'Unable to connect' issue. So please "For what it's worth" check the loading issue.

You basically described my issue. Yea I can log in and play. But when I hit a loading screen, I pray it doesn't disconnect.

This happens to me every time. Just keep quitting out of the game and logging back in and you will be able to port somewhere on the 2nd or 3rd attempt . This means actually logging in and attempting to port and you will get disconnected actually log back in again and attempt to port to the same location and this should work. It's a pain, but this is what I have been doing.

Same issues as everyone else. EU loads fine, NA I cant get past loading screen. if i'm lucky to see one of my characters it seems to be a 20% chance the game will load. if it does, i usually get about 20 min of play time before disconnection. Been happening since AUG 7th. Internet ping is 15, speed is 9.5MB, all other services work fine.
