1.3.0 Armor and Weapon Sets

For a few weeks after the patch, they can make the deconstruct return of materials 100% for crafted items with set bonuses. This would also have the side effect of letting test the bonuses more easily for a little while. I doubt this would have aasting impact on the economy (that doesn't exist).

Too bad there will definitely be zero compensation.

Way to completely destroy the Hist Bark 5 piece...glad I just wasted all of my gold crafting mats making that full set for my tank. :(

Woo, crafted sets look streight sexy now. Even the 2 trait crafts look boss, like ashens grip.

They needed more options for weapon crit on sets? Fine, add some new sets that give weapon crit without punishing those who already spent the time and money to get their spell crit sets. That isn't enough? OK adjust the spell crit amounts down 1% each , give the weapon sets 1% more than the spell crit sets get. Just completely messing up the sets that people have already worked for is bound to make people unhappy. And each side of the argument both have selfish factors so get off your high horse.

For the PVE sets, shouldn't the sets that require 5 and 6 researched traits offer better buffs than the 2 and 3 trait sets? With a couple of exceptions, it seems like the 2 and 3 trait stations generate better gear than the 5 and 6 trait stations.

My current 3 piece Willow's Path set that offers a 5% Spell Crit increase is now worthless as the +10 Health and Magicka Recovery for 3 pieces in the new update is a horrible replacement.

This Hist Bark looks promising. (tank)
Also Hunding Rage / Night Mother (dps)
Song of Lamae and Vampire looks weaker

We need to see if soft caps are affected because all this + health will go to waist

I think vampires kiss bonus is better. just adding health regen wasnt good due to possible overcharging, and generally health regen is low for most people anyways. Adding streight healing sounds better in the longrun.

I use song of lamae right now but It wont work for me, since it looks geared for magica people and I am stamina. It's still somewhat better than before by having 2 more set bonuses.

That's the thing, this change is actually a nerf. It's actually far stronger right now

The answer is that it really depends. Let's get some maths involved. For the purpose of this discussion let's say that you're at armor cap and this is a 1v1 duel type situation. I'm using my current DW setup since it's what I'm most familiar with.

I hit you with 3x heavy attacks with the current setup (rare in PvP) I will do about 350x3 = 1050 damage

Old Histbark = 210 dmg mitigated
    840 dmg done

New histbark = 175 dmg mitigated
    875 dmg done

    Winner - Old Histbark

    Now let's say we do 3 light attacks. That's about 120 x 3 = 360 damage

Old Histbark = 72 dmg mitigated
    288 damage done

New Histbark = 175 dmg mitigated
    185 dmg done

    Winner - New Histbark

For giggles I'm going to include a channeled attack like Flurry. That's 5 attacks of 80 damage in quick succesion followed by what is essentially a heavy attack with crit.

    First 3 attacks = 240 dmg (80,80,80)

    Old - 48 mitigated, 192 dmg done
    New -175 mitigated, 65 done

    Next 3 attacks = 560 dmg (80,80,400)

    Old - 112 mitigated, 448 dmg done
    New - 175 mitigated, 385 dmg done

That's without taking into account things like caltrops, attacks with DoT effects, pets, and all of the millions of other ways you can take damage in this game, not to mention what constitutes an attack, damage shield stacking, and other much broken and abused mechanics and abilities.

    Some thoughts:
    - Hist bark has no cooldown?!?
Yes, but no cooldown on a nerf is still a nerf.

Changing Hist Bark from "While Blocking gain 200 Dodge Rating" (which was a great perk for tanks) to "33% chance when blocking to gain 175 health" is a huge nerf to every tank who used it, especially if you were specced towards avoidance.

Anyone else notice the missing Spectre's Eye set from the images? Is this really removed or was it just overlooked on the images?

    @ZOS_GinaBruno‌
Can you tell us what actually prompted this change to Hist Bark? Did the dev team thought it was overpowered? If that was true, the buff number could have been reduced slightly vs. destroying an entire set of gear.

Can anyone from ZOS ( @ZOS_GinaBruno ) speak to the various minor differences in the PVP sets? For instance, some are +126 Health while others are +129 Health or +135 Health. Inconsistencies also exist with the Maximum Magicka and +Stamina Recovery buffs as well. The PVE sets all seem pretty consistent by comparison.

Accessing the Spectre's Eye crafting station would require either completing a lot of quests to reach Coldharbour, or traveling to someone who already has Coldharbour unlocked on PTS.

    Very nice changes, indeed!
Makes me very curious about the 8 trait sets.

On a side note this might make the upgrade materials so rare that prices will skyrocket. Should we grant the duped materials be restored to the economy or not?
Attention Zenimax: Stamina builds don't hold up to magicka builds, and this is causing most of your class imbalance. It makes melee weapons and bows weaker than staves and class abilities. It makes medium and heavy armor less desirable than light armor. Fix this imbalance, and you'll address most of your balance issues.

They really need let us recover mats from crafted gear with this change. Some of the sets changed enough to be useless for the builds that are used in currently.

I do agree that stam builds should be balanced with magicka builds but the approach Zos is taking is not the way to do it. Stam players who are disgruntled about the current balance between magicka and stam are making non productive remarks and are in agreement with nerfing magicka builds which is not a very mature way to look at the problem.

Based on what I'm seeing from these changes it's literally going to break my entire build and force me to rebuild or quit the game. Changing the current gear sets so drastically is something I would expect from Blizzard Entertainment and is seriously making me think if I should continue playing eso. The fact that all my gear is legendary with legendary enchants is going to total of about 200k worth of gear that is now going to be obsolete.

I highly doubt if the tables were turned that stam build players would be happy about the gold loss and the loss of their builds.

These changes are seriously making me consider quitting the game because they are so drastic. Small changes for tweaks are ok and fine but these changes to me are consider game breaking not fixing.

Out of curiosity, where are you getting your numbers from?

The other part of that story that's not being told by your scenario is how the dodge rating increase gives you a chance to completely avoid attacks...where you will always get smacked with an attack on the new set, and only have a 33% chance to get that 175 health.

Don't remember seeing your character avoid damage? He'll turn his shoulder, side step, and you take 0 damage, and it costs you 0 stamina.

I would really like all my wax back for creating my set. This is absolutely ridiculous. This is going to cost well over 100k to rebuild my loadout, and sweeping changes like this should not be a PENALTY to every player that put a lot of time in farming.

    Unreal.

Thats how MMOs work , if they gave back all the rare ingredients every time they came out with new gear everyone would have all the new gear in a few hours, or they coulde spend alot of gold to get them as well either way it keeps thing moving along endlessly as any MMO does or the game would just stop being a MMO.

This isn't "coming out with new gear." This is changing existing gear. There's a huge difference.

Umm the old hist bark was 20% chance to flat out dodge attacks, didn't really mitigate damage like your post suggests

gotcha, so it's not 20% mitigation but a 20% chance of 100% mitigation.

I could recalculate for 15 attacks (3 attacks completely negated from the old Hist and 5 heals from the new Hist) and get the same amount percentage-wise but the current numbers hold up for a simple demonstration.

The numbers I got were from me hitting a Templar with armor at softcap while dueling last weekend. I have weapon damage at softcap, and was VR6, he was VR12.

My point is that unless someone uses heavy attacks or better, the New Histbark will always come out ahead. (Which may not be a terrible thing when you think about impulse spam, but that's another discussion entirely)
