Templar
  • Aedric Spear
    • Blazing Spear (Spear Shards morph): This morph now displays a hostile red telegraph if it is cast from enemy Templars.
    • Focused Charge: This ability and its morphs are now more responsive, and will no longer cause you to become stuck in the charge animation.
    • Piercing Javelin: Increased the range of this ability and its morphs to 28 meters from 20 meters.
[*]Puncturing Strikes: This ability and its morphs no longer knockback and apply crowd control immunity to the nearest enemy on the final hit; instead, they now snare that enemy by 70% for two seconds.
    • Radial Sweep: Increased the radius of this ability and its morphs to 6 meters from 5 meters.
    • Radiant Ward (Sun Shield morph): Increased the shield strength bonus from this morph’s shield to 6% per enemy hit from 5%.
  • Dawn’s Wrath
    • Backlash: Increased the maximum damage limit for this ability and its morphs by 25%, but decreased their damage stored amount by 66%. In addition, this ability and its morphs can no longer be reflected.
    • Eclipse:
      • This ability and the Total Dark morph can now reflect ranged physical projectiles back to the enemy, in addition to spell projectiles.
      • Revised the tooltips for this ability and the Total Dark morph to indicate that the area damage effect is separate from the self-reflect effect, and can be applied to a CC-immune target.
      • Fixed an issue where this ability and the Total Dark morph could reflect snares from ground-placed ticking abilities, such as Caltrops or Ash Cloud, and cause you to move at extremely high speeds.
    • Enduring Rays:
      • This passive ability now only increases the duration of the Sun Fire, Eclipse, and Nova abilities.
      • Increased this passive ability’s bonus to 15/30% more duration at Ranks I/II from 10/20%.
    • Nova:
      • Reduced the effects and visual light intensity for this ability and its morphs.
      • Increased the damage from the Supernova and Gravity Crush synergies by 16%.
      • Increased the activation range for the Supernova and Gravity Crush synergies to 3.5 meters from 2.5 meters.
    • Radiant Destruction: Fixed an issue where the execute bonus damage from this ability would not apply if multiple Templars were channeling these abilities on the same target.
    • Solar Flare: Increased the damage for this ability and the Dark Flare morph by 12%. The damage of the Solar Barrage morph remains unchanged.
    • Unstable Core (Eclipse morph): Increased the area damage when the effect ends by 50% and can be placed on an unlimited amount of targets, but it no longer reflects single target spells back to the enemy.
    • Vampire’s Bane (Sun Fire morph): Increased the damage over time duration for this morph to 9 seconds from 7 seconds.
  • Restoring Light
    • Breath of Life (Rushed Ceremony morph): This morph now only fires one additional secondary heal, previously two heals.
    • Cleansing Ritual:
      • Increased the healing from the Purify synergy from this ability and its morphs by 12%.
      • Fixed an issue where this ability and its morphs could be used to cleanse projectiles that were mid-flight. It now matches the behavior of the Purge ability.
[*Focused Healing: This passive ability now grants you the Major Mending buff while standing in your own Cleansing Ritual, Rune Focus, or Rite of Passage area effects and for up to 2/4 seconds after leaving them at Ranks I/II, instead of granting you 15/30% more healing to allies standing in your own Cleansing Ritual, Rune Focus, or Rite of Passage.
    • Healing Ritual: Reduced the cast time for this ability and its morphs by 25%, and reduced the healing done by 25%.
[*]Radiant Aura (Restoring Aura morph): This morph now grants you and your allies the Major Intellect buff upon activation, as well as having an increased radius as a morph effect.
    • Restoring Focus (Rune Focus morph): This morph now grants you the Minor Protection buff, in addition to granting the Minor Vitality buff as a morph effect.
    • Rite of Passage: In order to prevent visual issues or issues where the channel would end prematurely, this ability and its morphs can no longer be cast in mid-air.
    • Rune Focus: Revised the tooltips for this ability and its morphs to indicate that the Major Ward and Major Resolve buffs will stick to you for 8 seconds after leaving the rune, while the morph effects of Channeled Focus and Restoring Focus require you to remain in the rune at all times.

From what i can see here, in addition to the good ones, there are couple nerfs and same mistakes from previous patches such as potions are rendering radiant aura effects.

Im not sure about Eclipse. Are we now able to cast it on cc immune targets or not? That part is not clear in the article. Also i think it will only reflect projectiles not spells. And Unstable Core totally lost its ability to reflect(?) I hope it is just a typo. @ZOS_GinaBruno

In not sure about Rune Focus morph effects as well. It says it will apply only if you are in the rune. Which means we lost magicka regen effect while not standing inside?? Really ZOS?

Finally we got rid of that tiny knockback from jabs though which is nice. And stamina builds got their major mending buff which is also nice.

And that 1% buff to radiant ward is priceless tho appreciated man. :|

This is the chain heal of ESO.

    You don't screw with it.

It's like screwing with shaman healers in WoW. Not good.

Buff honor the dead, don't nerf BoL.

Healing ritual sucks... rethink the whole skill.

I'm kind of disappointed though. Nothing we discussed for months has been done except jabs. No shield buff, no mobility buff and instead they made us more static with the new rune focus morph effects if thats true. Radiant aura is still useless in contrast of potions which last longer and do more than the skill. That 1% buff to radiant ward is plain stupid. I dont get it why are they doing this.

    I'm laughing hysterically.

With the amazing buffs to Igneous Weapons for DKs, Templars are now the only class without Major Brutality and Major Sorcery buffs.

I don't get the tiny changes in the Aedric Spear skill line. Only decent change is no CC immunity from jabs.

Dawn's Wrath, I'm not sure. Why did Dark Flare need a damage increase? Is Eclipse suddenly going to be good now that it works against all projectiles? With the range increase for Javelin, seems like they want Templars to be a ranged fighter. Not sure this is going in the right direction, especially for Stamplars.

Restoring Light ... BoL nerfed, Healing Ritual remains useless, Radiant Aura slightly less useless.

Absolutely nothing in here for Stamplars. No noteworthy buffs to our passives.

I see no reason here why I would play a Templar over other classes, considering Sorcerers and DKs (and all Resto Staff users) got improvements to their healing game.

    I dunno.

I do appropriate they (finally) made jabs a snare / got rid of the knockback and fixed the channel bug for RD, but this is a mixed bag at best and this list doesn't do much to address the problems associated with templars.

Shield is still too underwhelming where it is needed most (in PvP).
Backlash still doesn't scale with spell damage.
Unstable Core is spammable AoE time bomb that doesn't reflect? That's a nerf ZoS, it used to do that and reflect.
The secondary heal from Breath of Life was not a balance issue and thus an unnecessary nerf.
Healing ritual is still a heal that will get you interrupted and your allies killed.
Radiant aura still a waste of a slot to anyone that uses tri pots (that's all your allies that you are trying to help if not you).
Now I have to stand in the Rune Focus to get the morph effects? They really want us to stand our ground and die!

A little better offensively but I'm not seeing how magicka builds are to stay alive outside of puncturing sweep spam.
Make Rush of Agony "Monsters only." People should not be consecutively crowd controlled in a PvP setting. Period.

I'm glad they took away the knockback. I don't even need a snare. Just glad that knockback is gone.

Oh, and the "healing" class just got some very large rocks thrown at them. Seriously. That is not a "tweak" to BoL. That's a flat out nerf. You didn't even try to make it "look" like a tweak like adding extra range or something.

To be clear. I don't want extra range. Or extra anything. I just want to be able to heal 2 players that are not standing side by side.

They really want us to stand our ground and die!

Templars used to be able to stand their ground and live, with Blinding Light! If Templars get evasion back, either by a Miss Chance debuff or Major Evasion buff, then we can be defensively competent again.

The old Blinding Light was 50% Miss Chance, replaced by Radiant Destruction. I suggested tacking Major Evasion onto Restoring Focus and it got Minor Protection instead - Okay. It does improve the morph, but was expecting some evasion somewhere. If the Miss Chance were reintroduced to the classes that had them (Templar and Dragonknight), it should be 20% (to match Major Evasion) or 15% (since a Miss debuff is like putting Evasion on all your allies) rather than the imbalanced 50%.

I have not been able to put it into words eloquently enough to write a post singularly about this realisation: The classes, Templar and Dragonknight especially, lack active defenses, removed in Update 6. Damage was overall lower in Update 5 (and prior), with Spell/Weapon Damage soft capping at 207 (~2070 now), yet in 7/7 Reinforced Heavy Armor I took 800 damage from unblocked Surprise Attacks (~8000 now) and currently I take 6000 in the same armor. Clearly, passive stats went up with the removal of soft caps. Passive defense did improve. It was the power of active defenses that let players survive so long in Update 5, fight multiple opponents and not let the body count grant an advantage, but active defense was removed or crippled in Update 6 while active offense was left largely untouched. TTK went down and standing your ground, a principal two classes are founded in, is no longer viable.

I suggested a good while ago that they replace the major prophecy buff for Sunfire with major sorcery, since prophecy is easy to get from Magelight or pots. Oh well.

    True.
It is one of our most useless abilities, scaling with health.

I think my biggest disappointment so far goes to rune focus, followed close by sun shield "buff".
The patch will be released in nearlly 2 monthes on PS4, by the time it gets out, some games like the division, or dark souls 3 will be out or closed to be out... So yeah I was expecting a little more to keep me playing.

So I'm going to say, almost everyone right now is overreacting with a lot of their abilties with these changes it's going to require a lot of testings and a lot of changes to your rotations. But from just theorycrafting some quick things piecing parts together I can see templars being incredibly powerful in many many ways.

I shall update my Templar guide very shortly with all my testings, you guys will be very surprised

The breath of life nerf was unjustified and unneeded, it was just listening to 1vxers complain on stream, ZOS needs to stop listening to that feedback as I believe it takes the game in a bad direction - as I've stated before some of the information provided by streamers is great but other requests are just outright absurd and completely biased, and they gain a huge following from players who don't understand then start up a rally. I'm not going to name any names at all but that's my personal thoughts. Breath of Life was fine how it was, Honor The Dead does the same thing but gives magicka return, so what is the point of even using Breath of Life now? This is just a recreation of the past on how a lot of the changes were handled. ZOS understand and they are listening to *problems* but we don't know how to fix it, so we will just ruin it.
No, take the time to think about it and problem solve. I don't think this was needed at all. I won't name any names to who I am pointing this at so don't take offense.

100% agree. I've already started theorycrafting myself. Trickiest would be negating Meteors but everyone is in the same boat with that one, think I'll go with Absorb Magic morph this patch.

PvE. I already know our ranged DPS is gonna skyrocket!

BoL. Ridiculous nerf. Thanks Twitch! At least we can make use of Bogdan and Rememberance now. Rememberance may be useful in PvP now also.

Eclipse used to both reflect and be cast on multiple targets.

One morph should reflect both spell and weapon projectiles. The other should just reflect spell and be able to be cast on multiples. At least. That would be more fair.

Most important fix that hasn't been addressed would be an exception in battle spirit for health based shields and heals. This would fix blazing shield, Dragon's blood, igneous shield, and help tanks.

If my Templar wasn't researching his last piece of nine trait medium armor I would have deleted him after I read the patch notes yesterday.

    I'm even more disgusted today.

Congrats to magplars tho that 28 K Dark Flare just became 32 K.

And I'm wondering since you have one of the best smart healing systems in just about any MMO, you couldn't have reduced the heals effectiveness the more friendlies it hit instead of just reducing the number of allies but then again you still haven't fixed Charge in what two years, it's my fault for having expectations.

The more I type and think about Templats the more disgusted I get and more I just want to us-sub until the barber shop comes online. Come to think of it that is prob exactly what I'm going to do.

I can make sense of a lot of things, what Templars have become is officially an insult to players who love the class.
