Provided is a link to todays patch notes posted on reddit. If you scan through the responses you will see questions and issues being responded to by @‌ZOS_GinaBruno. ZOS on Reddit

My question, why do those posting issues and questions get rapid response on the non official forum? Do we need to create accounts there and voice our questions/concerns on reddit? Or would we just get moderated/down voted into non existence there?

    It's a joke.

Why do we even have "official" forums if the developers don't care to use them to interact with players?

The most positive gaming forums were the ones were devs and reps actually didn't keep people in the dark. If they cared about getting burned on the forums all they would have to do would be to moderate the bad posts.

Not everyone cares about twitter or reddit. Personally I hate twitter with a passion. It's a glorified diary for people who are self obsessed and what others to know what they are doing every waking minute of the day.

Well, maybe if the Reddit community didn't show a consistent ability to be more thoughtful and respectful in their replies than this community, ZO would probably spend more time here.

That is [snip]. I have read many threads on reddit where people voice the same discontent as they do here. Like the poster above stated, here they have complete control to moderate posts that go to extremes and keep things on topic.

It's not like the devs ever gave these forums a chance. And I think your assumption of Reddit as being filled with thoughtful and respectful replies quite humurous. :)

Being kept in the dark kind of makes people a bit agitated.

The sad reality is that Reddit is a more thoughtful and respectful environment than this forum. Think about that for a moment. This community is outclassed by Reddit. That should make you agitated.

I browse those forums regularly and have to disagree. Yes there are fewer trolls there but the tone is the same on issues related to the game. This forum could be controlled much more easily by ZOS. I do not understand why they do not proactively take action against flame/troll posts like the one about cats up above.

This is their environment. They can play forum god if they so chose and honestly would in all likelihood avoid a ton of negativity if they would be as present here as they are elsewhere.

Are you serious? Are we talking about the same Reddit forums or is there another Reddit site of which I am unaware?

Reddit ESO also does not seem to get as much traffic as here. It has certainly dwindled significantly since ESO launched.

ESO forums should be the primary (thus, "official") forums where ZoS communicates to its player base.

This patch was first announced there and only confirmed here when someone posted the link here. It is well known action is taken based on reddit. Whine on reddit stuff gets nerfed or buffed here it is ignored or closed. This is the last place they communicate. Basically it goes reddit, twitter, Facebook then here is they remember.

I don't think you deserve special treatment because you picked this forum over another. Reddit is popular and has a big audience, it's smart for them to make use of it. Plus, the info there from players is often better than what we see here, and too many treat the off. forums as just a complaint department/suggestion box. I see much more widespread discussion over there, not much, but a little. If you only picked this forum b/c you thought it would make you special, then you probably made a bad choice.

Would you get downvoted to oblivion? If you came in there like a jerk you might, but not if you were constructive.

And most of the complaints about reddit have been pretty ignorant. Days ago someone cried b/c someone posted the release date for the dungeon today on reddit as a response, even though I knew about the release date from a couple weeks ago from the official website. Same with this, reddit pretty much linked to the official forums for the patch notes, they copy/pasted the info and ZoS pointed out that they were editing that info and they should check back - god forbid we let 40K plus people that might see that know the patch info is getting updated. Do they answer stuff independently there? Sure, again, smart to not limit yourself to one audience. They've also showed up on other gaming forums and in podcasts and streams as well.

I think you miss the point of my post. I am not debating whether its smart or not to use other social media to communicate or promote the game. I am asking why such a huge difference in communication?

Considering I pointed out two big fallacies with two of the bigger examples I've seen lately about reddit, I don't think I missed the point.

I use both sites and find useful information on both, though I do find more useful info not from ZoS employees on other sites than this one.

If you worked for me working customer service/social media and I ran ZoS I would definitely have you spending a given amount of time on a site like reddit. That might mean you would miss a question on one site or the other when you were on one of the two and answer it wherever you are at. It happens. Do what reddit does, publish a thread and link to it, they don't cry that info is posted somewhere else, they post it and link it.

That subreddit is run pretty well compared to some other as well. They have all the ZoS folks tagged so they stand out, they allow any sort of self promotion, something most subreddits forbid, etc. [snip]

Somehow I doubt this; if true, however, it would make ZoS look neglectful and evasive to its playerbase - not a good way to build player confidence.

Reddit is a good forum in general, but the ESO reddit doesn't have the traffic as the official forums any more.

Reddit is similar to every other social networking site. It's got it's own share of idiots and trolls. Personally I think the official forums should get primary attention, then if they feel like it they can copy/paste into other locations.

Not much point in having an official site if it's not being used to capacity.

Reddit is HEAVILY monitored and self-policed by it's posters and rating system. You cannot cause trouble or you never post there again. Stop thinking they are all reasonable people all the time. It would be the same mess there as anywhere else if not for how those boards are managed.

Our stance is that we answer what questions we can as we come across them, or as they're sent to us. If our team sees a question we're able to answer on a site we have an official account on, we answer it. We also read quite a few sites in addition to the official forums.

We do consider the official ESO forums our priority and primary site for communication, but that doesn't mean we won't answer a question on Reddit, MMORPG.com, TESO Elite, or any other fansite we have a presence on just because it isn't our official forums. You'll notice we always post big updates here, such as the Templar and Stamina skills updates we shared last week. If you compare our posts here via the dev tracker, you'll find we post significantly more on the official forums than anywhere else combined; suggesting otherwise is simply not true.

The reality is, there may be times we post an answer to something elsewhere before we do here. It isn't us showing preferential treatment; rather, that is simply where we happened upon the question first.

Thank you for the honest reply and information. Perception is that the same questions asked here are answered elsewhere because the presence on those sites is more noticeable with the individual responses from ZOS staff. The interaction with that community is far greater than here seemingly.

You're welcome. And nope, that's not the case at all. We often have multiple tabs open all day, checking in here, and on multiple fan communities. It's just a matter of timing and where we see a question first. There's no nefarious strategy behind it. If anything, our posts are the most noticable here because of our handy dev tracker.
