Social Bans--I do not play ESO to be frustrated. I play to have fun.

After having been a paying member of ESO since beta ended, I have finally given up my ESO+ membership.

Eight days ago our guild won our trader back in Mournhold. Since we were going to be in an expensive bidding war to maintain the trader, I used MailR (an add-on) to send out a guild-wide mail encouraging everyone to stock up their stores. I am sure that I encouraged my fellow guildees to take the opportunity to make a good amount of gold. MailR was stopped after sending only 8 mails.

I was hit with what has become known as a social ban. Initially, I was unaware of what that entailed and so I submitted bug reports for not being able to send mail, etc. As I went along, I understood that this was something that ZOS deliberately put in place to combat gold-sellers. While I whole-heartedly approve of the intent (I remember the annoyance of gold-selling spam in my mail), ZOS has not implemented this well. At no time did ZOS inform me of what had occurred or why. Unsurprisingly, my bug reports have not been responded to and only fellow players have responded to me in the bug forum. (They have done ZOS' job and have helped me out a great deal)

For almost half of the New Life Festival, I have been under the following restrictions:
    - Cannot send mail
    - Cannot send whispers (they never get sent even though it appears so)
    - Cannot access guild store
    - Cannot access guild bank
    - Cannot speak in group chat (although it appears to function from my end)
    - Cannot execute a trade

    What this means:
I have been running a Psijic fragment-exchange service for some of the guilds I belong to. Fellow guildees send me one of their duplicates and tell me which fragment they want, and I send it back. For the most part, the frequency of the fragments balance out and so it did not require a significant outlay--just a bit of organization. Unfortunately, I have been unable to return the

As a 9-trait crafter across the board, I usually start my ESO day crafting research equipment for fellow guildees. If they provide the mats and planned 24 hours out, we ensured that their research slots never went empty.

I have been unable to stock my items to sell in guild stores. This means that I lost out on the last eight days--and judging by my recent experience, the foreseeable future.

I have been unable to trade motif chapters, recipes, runeboxes, etc. for the New Life festival. I have not even been able to hand out Twice-something ale (no, I did not charge for it)

I have been unable to manage the guild I am responsible for, nor support the other guilds where I am an officer.

While I can group, I do not have the ability to interact with the group in game. If I get a neat piece of equipment that someone needs and it can only be exchanged for an hour, I cannot send it to them. I can communicate with my fellow groupies if I go outside of ESO to TeamSpeak or discord.

In short, I am prohibited from taking most social interactions. We are punished for trying to run guilds. I do not think that is why I play on ESO. I have found it very frustrating. I do not play ESO to be frustrated.

Since I do not know how long this ban will last, I am adjusting my expectations from ESO. I will hand off guild leadership, drop my guilds, and treat this as a solo game. (as soon as I can, I will send guild material to the appropriate people). And after a couple of years of enjoyable gaming, I have cancelled my subscription (I will certainly miss my crafting bag). Fortunately, I used my subscription crowns to purchase the DLCs (I was trying to encourage ZOS to create more content) so you will still see me out and about in Tamriel (at least for a time).

Heh--I can't even send all my stuff to anyone else right now.

Do I know you? Does the guild have two words ,? First word start with N?

Ok. You have me scared. I was going to send a mail for the "Guild Future 2017" and clear up some conduct issues and bank rules, but not so sure now.
I use MailR and have for years. It will sometimes get stuck on 'Waiting on ZoS" and crash. I did reset the time to 2secs between mails,as I read that will by pass the auto spam.
BUT! To those that say use MoD or About Us and group mail is not needed!
You must not be a GM of a 500 person guild and Officer to 3 other 500 person guilds.
The MoD is VERY limited as to spaces. Yea, just try and put events, raffles, top sellers and a scheduled of up coming weekly maintenance and news.
The "About Us" has just enough room for Ts address, website address and a Welcome note. That's all space it has.
So YES! Zos REALLY need to address the severe lack of Guild Tools and Support.
If I send that mail and it works at 2 sec setting, will let you know. Can't wait! 2 sec each + wait on Zos + full mailbox's x 500ppl..Might be a while!!! Lol..

About Us really needs a character increase.

If I could put the schedule and raffle information under About Us, then I could use the MotD for the important short term things.

As is, I do try to keep the MotD as short as possible, most days.

I'm so tired of this primitive interface and options we have as guildmasters. A few days ago I had inform my officer list about future events, and I had to send the mails indvidually ....was considering to use an addon, but didn't dare because I've heard many stories like this one >.<

Every trade guild I am in I get spammed with multiple emails on a daily basis...so how is ZoS choosing who gets banned and who doesnt?
Force weapon swap to have priority over EVERYTHING. Close enough.
Make stamina builds even with magicka builds.
    Disable abilities while holding block.
Give us a REASON to do dungeons more than once.
Remove PVP AoE CAP. It is ruining Cyrodiil.
Fix/Remove Forward Camps. They are ruining Cyrodiil.
Impenetrability needs to REDUCE CRIT DAMAGE. Not negate entire builds.
Werewolf is not equal to Vamps/Bats.

they didn't they use an algorithm to ban people , once banned no one cares, there is no even possibility to defend against such bans because no one reads your mails anymore

They have explained it to you already:

    From the terms of service:

    Under the section about mods:

IF YOU ELECT TO INSTALL, DOWNLOAD OR USE ANY GAME MODS, YOU DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Under the section about 'Code of conduct':

    Harass, stalk, threaten, embarrass, spam or do anything else to another user of any Services that is unwanted, such as repeatedly sending unwanted messages or making personal attacks or statements about race, sexual orientation, religion, heritage, etc.;

The automatic system to ban communications for spamming does so to prevent gold farmers from communicating, etc. It is doubtful that they will modify their game engine to cater to a mod that sends out mass emails since it is against the TOS. It is automatic because if they had a real person doing message screenings it would likely be a full time job.

Additionally, as someone else mentioned, the MailR website warns you as well.

It is unfortunate that there is no mass mailing for guilds. Perhaps it will be added someday.

He is not spamming another user, he is mailing users. That portion of the tos, coc, is to prevent harassment. Now if he was mailing the same person 500 times, that would be what that is for. He wasn't though, he was mailing 500 different users.

Not exactly. That portion of the TOS is for the things you state, but it is also for prevention of things like gold seller spam, which would be one message mailed to many players, rather than many messages mailed to one player. That type of mail spam used to be a serious problem in ESO. There was a time when I couldn't log in without getting at least a couple of gold seller spam mails.

MailR has a warning on their page at ESOUI that using it to send out bulk mails can get you banned. I would suggest reading it.

Well in that case Zos should really work on their communication and explain WHY and in which situations you will get or not banned, because this seems awfully arbitrary. Sersiously, Zos needs to step up their godamn level of communication already, it's frankly disrespectful.

Op you have my sympathy, that seems really harsh.

It's so people don't send 1000s of emails in every guild all the time. If you work in IT or work for a large company wait for the day when somebody sends and replies to an email message that then sends out replies and forwards to everybody you have ever mailed from that profile. Suddenly you have 50k people sending 10k emails every few seconds and the Exchange servers die and are down for the day.

Take the same in ESO. You have how many guilds? Lets say they all use MaiLR...they all start sending out mass emails, the servers fall under extreme strain and crash. Then you come here and whine and complain about the servers being down and how you demand refund to your ESO+ membership for an issue you caused through an add on you choose to use not one you are required to use.
