If you're fully clearing each zone, that's why you're noticing this.

When you actually take the time to clear everything, you start to overlevel the content. Which is totally fine. But the zones level up at a fairly specific pace, so that's why you'll see crafting mats stay a little lower level than you as you near the end of a zone.

actually each zone (outside the 1st) will have two types, one is level appropriate, one is one level above. so basically, you should be able to find both Dwarven and Orichalcum in shadowfen and eastmarch.

You don't find ebony in eastmarch. You find a lot of orichalcum and some dwarven. So for 3 zones you are finding orichalcum.

Stonefalls, iron 100%
Deshaan, steal 80%, orichalcum 20%
Shadowfen, orichalcum 80%, dwarven 20%
Eastmarch, orichalcum 80%, dwarven 20% <- Should be 100% Dwarven for this level range
Rift, dwarven 80%, ebony 20%
Coldharbour, ebony 80%,calcinium 20%

Well considering Cyrodiil is designed for V5 players it shouldn't have any Ebony at all.

I haven't paid much attention to the percentage, but I've ran into the following in Cyrodill.

I'm pretty sure there's been small spots of Dwarven, but can't recall with 100% accuracy on that.

Cyrodill is, originally at least, a Level 50 area. The materials found should generally reflect that. Just because they've up'd the mob's to v5, doesn't change the fact that Cyrodill, in and of itself, is around level 50. IMO, it just means the average player level in Cyrodill is now above the 50 mark so the mobs needed to be tweaked so it wasn't a piece of cake for the bulk of the players. *shrug*

Thanks for this thread. I knew crafting nodes where off somehow in regards to respawning -- especially runes. Now, I know about the discrepancy in quality too. It's becoming much easier for me to hit that unsubscribe button by the day.

In advance, apologies for the long post. This is for the Ebonheart Pact, but it translates over to the Daggerfall Covenant or Aldmeri Dominion, just switch the names of Zones according to the levels of quests available.

If you're the type to finish everything before moving onto the next Zone, this is why you are noticing that your level is higher than the materials available to harvest in that Zone. Personally, I do the same with exception to Group Dungeons. Given the lower appearance rate of Tier Four equipment in Shadowfen and Eastmarch, I've actually gathered enough Blacksmith and Cloth materials to sustain my character as I go through content without specifically looking for the materials. That is, with exception to the Leather materials as mobs are the only source such material. Since the scraps that are dropped by mobs are levelled according to their own level, you won't find Tier Three scraps in Deshaan, nor will you find Tier Four scraps in Shadowfen.

Levels of quests according to Zone:
Bleakrock: Levels 4-5
Bal Foyen: Levels 4-6
Stonefalls: Levels 4-15
Deshaan: Levels 15-24
Shadowfen: Levels 24-31
Eastmarch: Levels 31-38
The Rift: Levels 38-43
Coldharbour: Levels 44-50

Tier of materials according to Zone:
Bleakrock: Tier One
Bal Foyen: Tier One
Stonefalls: Tier One
Deshaan: Tier Two and Tier Three
Shadowfen: Tier Three and Tier Four

The Rift: Tier Four and Tier Five

I'm not actually sure if Tier Six materials appear in Coldharbour as I have not yet reached Coldharbour.

Material Tiers:
Tier One: Iron Ore, Jute Fibre, Rawhide Scraps
Tier Two: High Iron Ore, Flax Fibre, Hide Scraps
Tier Three: Orichalcum Ore, Cotton Fibre, Leather Scraps
Tier Four: Dwarven Ore, Spidersilk Fibre, Thick Leather Scraps
Tier Five: Ebony Ore, Ebonthread Fibre, Fell Hide Scraps
Tier Six: Calcinium Ore, Kresh Fibre, Topgrain Hide Scraps

With this in mind, the only discrepancy would be materials from the Tier above appearing in Zones where the quest levels do not match. The Zones that fall under this discrepancy would be Deshaan and Shadowfen, since Deshaan caters to level 15-24 while Shadowfen caters to 24-31. Not that I'm complaining, but it makes sense that Orichalcum ore and Spidersilk fibre plants appear in Shadowfen and Eastmarch, since the quest levels cover the same level range as the materials.

Shadowfen is also a fairly dark place. If you have one point in the Keen Eye passive, ores and plants are lit up, therefore easier to spot. This may be why you are finding more Dwarven ore than what you are finding in Eastmarch. As a decent portion of the Eastmarch map is snow-covered, the Keen Eye passive loses some effectiveness (at least for me) as the colour of the light blends in with the colour of the snow.
