I've rolled my eyes so many times when I see someone say "F2P! Lolz!" at any news.
    "Server maintenance? F2P! Lolz!"
    "Bugs! F2P! Lolz!"
    "Bots! F2P! Lolz!"

ffs grow up and get a clue.

The only way it is going F2P is all the players going away.

ffs grow up and get a clue.

You must be a poet. ;)

Hmmm... I'm making fun of the people saying the game is going F2P.
I was relating personal contracting experience and informing people that weren't familiar with the concept that temps are used everywhere and are essentially have no rights, but they know this going into the role.

They hired people for the pending console release. They delayed the console launch. Those temporary workers were laid off early due to the delay. It's a completely normal occurrence.

I agree that the first part is very innocent.

It's the next part the is bad.

It's just the local paper website in the town in Ireland. Maybe just hyping a story.

Or maybe a real journalist for once, who knows...

I have already decided if i dont see an EU server when im back from holidays in September im gonna find a new game, and this is the first and last time i say it.

I doubt that this is anything more than tangentially related to EU servers.
If anything, these were a bunch of CS phone reps they hired to handle the population boom at launch, but when the EU servers weren't ready to go Zeni went:

"Why are we paying all these temps to provide CS for a server that we don't have yet?" Let's let them go, and re-hire when the server is ready for play."

You dont think they werent there to handle EU accounts? These people spoke french and german with english, something 99% of americans not from mexico cant do.

Obviously you've never been to Louisiana, Vermont, Northern New Hampshire, Northern Minnesota, Wisconsin.

    Thumbs up 100%.

This infopic doesn't show percentages but the U.S. is more bilingual or multilingual than most *** believe.

Well, I'm glad I did what I did with my account then. If this is actually true, I have no interest in giving money to a company like this. I'd rather give $15 a month to someone laid off from ZoS.

I think it's safe to say this is the reason this game is dying off fast.

I just went back to SWtoR. Dropped a dime there too. Wow. F2P in that game works quite well.
I went back there earlier this year .. stayed for a couple of weeks then remembered why I stopped playing it before .. it still has no end-game for non-PVPers.

    Sad.

Yeah not much there but they add a little every now and then. Since I was there, they now have space pvp and housing. Oh and an xpac that takes you up 5 more levels so there is plenty for me to do as well as finish some alts and spend money on stuff in their store that I want.

If they can treat staff like this then what hopes do the players have.

Dude, it's everywhere. Car companies. Local city governments. EVERYONE does it. It's sad but that's why when someone FINALLY gets a perm job, they cling to it. They're rare.

Having had the misfortune of being a Agency worker for 5 years after having recovered from a spinal injury resulting in me having to give up my trade. I can say without a doubt that agency (or temp as the US knows them by) are treated like crap by EVERY industry, and every agency worker knows what they are signing up to, we sign up regardless however as we are desperate. Its sad and unfortunate that they are used like this but nothing has changed in the last decade why on earth would it suddenly change now.

Hiring and removing agency workers is also only a sign of increased production or short salary staffed. Doesn't reflect much on the companies plans at all, in fact one such company I was temping at let go almost 99% of the agency staff 1 week before the new tax year to save on the tax bill.

Thankfully I am no longer in need of agency work as I'm now working on my Degree, whilst being a manager of a Burger King (oh wow I hear you say , still I work the hours I want not what they want how many of you can say the same before you ridicule me?)

I feel for the agency/Temp staff truly I do , but then only to a point, They knew what they were getting into and now it hasn't gone their way they run to the media. Zeni isn't the bad guy they are just following common practice, perhaps they should be venting this at the government for making the legislation that allows this to happen.

That article is basically this : A probable fact (who the hell is Connacht Tribune?), spun into a tragic story of individuals seemingly portrayed as victim to a heartless and greedy company. The tone of the article is not neutral, and the use of words such as 'disgrace' although it is in a quote, serves to sway public opinion against the company. So by extension of that argument everyone who creates jobs in the 1st place is gonna be evil somedays. Oh the quality of journalism nowadays.

Hell, Blizzard laid off a bunch of CS (regular ones, too, I think) a couple of years ago or so. It didn't really affect their customer service, as far as I could see; a bit of a wait time, maybe, but I've had worse ones.

As for treatment of employees, well, that goes on everywhere. And you have to understand, as a temporary worker, you're bottom of the totem pole, and lucky if you're not considered some sort of scab labourer. Believe me, this sort of thing is NOT unusual to a temp/casual worker. Yes, we ARE peons who are only there at the company's disposal and need. For us, the company is just there to give us our next damn paycheque and some food in the fridge.

I find this thread absolutely hilarious when Zenimax has over 120 jobs available as advertised on their web site. Here is the link:
    http://jobs.zenimax.com/search

Furthermore, there are pages of other jobs available as well for their partners:
    http://jobs.zenimax.com/

Contract workers NOT hired by the company they happen to have a 'chair/desk' in where they physically do their job. Their bosses are technically the 'job farm company' that places them in different positions based on their skill sets.

Most contract workers are hired on a 'per diem' (per day ) basis... including a clause that says can be let go at anytime, without any notice. EVEN if they have a contract that says the project they are hired to do is expected to last (insert time) months, most don't read the small print that explicitly states the company is under no obligation to keep someone in a contract position.

I say "foul" to this OP's post. It's nothing but troll trash garbage.

When you're a TEMPORARY worker, loyalty isn't an issue in the first place.

its not uncommon for the gaming industry to use up and throw out their employees without notice, its one of the worst long term employment careers out there. also, every launch has its share of over hiring employees to cater to the high volume needs then ditching them in favor of where the real need turns out to be

that said, if the article is true it sounds like management is a bit lost

Seriously, a month ago the angry masses were asking for the "bad" customer support to be fired because of the long wait times or canned responses. Now the angry masses are angry because some rep support temps were let go.

So which one is it? You want the reps fired or not?
