tl;dr: bunnies!
No, seriously, resorting to hitting "lol" b/c you disagree is just silly. For one thing, it mudies when people have hit "lol" b/c you've actually made a humorous comment versus them thinking you're crazy.
A polite "disagree" would be lovely. It doesn't have to be like Topix where we get to call people names, though that would be fun, just a very nice "not loving it" button.
Thank you.
so basically a disagree button would be ok, but humanity in this centuries society is the problem?
glad that is cleared up and i know im not going nuts after all.

Did you seriously just accuse the internet of having manners?

You do realize that when you give someone an 'LOL' you're actually giving them forum points, right?
The person is getting props for you disagreeing with them. gg

Indeed, and I'd like to extend thanks to the many LOL votes I got from those who disagreed with me.You do realize that when you give someone an 'LOL' you're actually giving them forum points, right?

It literally provides an easy out for people who can not, or would not, take the time to articulate their thoughts in a discussion.
If you disagree, you say so and post why. That is why this is a discussion board.
If you agree... then you have the agree button to prevent the same thing from being spouted over again. To lend weight to an idea already presented.
A disagree button is useless to good discussion and conversation. It makes people lazy, and ultimately provides no data to developers and community managers.
"We show five thousand people disagree with this idea."
"Did they post an alternative, or reasons why? We have to change something."
"No..."

yeah, which is why I don't use LoLs as a disagree, I write and say why they are wrong.
I use Lol as a Funny Comment indicator.
I have the hundred Lols badge too. Just waiting for 500 Agrees badge, or 100 Awesomes. (not that far off either really)

Most people who disagree but don't post are simply afraid to actually put any time and effort into something that might get pulled apart by others.
It is a fear. A fear of being ridiculed and mocked... Of looking foolish and even of being wrong.
But a button? It gives them a way out. An easy escape from everything they are afraid of.

Fair enough, it can be quite hard being mocked.
But as so many keep saying, telling someone that 395 people disagree with them, but not telling them why isn't helpful. We need people to give feedback, why do they disagree?, could a minor tweek save the idea?, did they just miss the joke?
Also we get too many who won't read more than a couple of sentences, who won't bother to think, and disect an idea. As you say a Disagree button gives them an easy way out, that's the problem. It's far too easy just to press a button, if they truely disagree, let them work to say so.
I will always respect someone who puts the effort in, even if I totally disagree with the idea/opinion. I don't have the same respect for someone who just ticks a box/pushes a button.

Ah, but specifically responding to such drivel and exposing it for the nonsense it is is half the fun of posting on forums. But some people - like myself, I'm sure - just post nonsense or that "l2p" BS we see from time to time that doesn't demand a careful response. Just a "disagree" button.
