We need a disagree button.

Now that is fair. The other game that i play that uses vanilla forums, that they use here, had a disagree button, with all the others. It does nothing, outside of just keep count. You get points for them just like you do all the other clicks. But they also allow you to see everyone who clicked any reaction to your post, the agrees, the awesomes, the disagree, the lol, you could see who clicked each and everyone. And everyone could see it. No hidden clickage.

Thank you for this information, now I know a little more. :)

So my guess would be that the forum moderators had had a meeting at some time to discuss whether a "Disagree" button was wanted or needed around here, and they came up with a No. We cannot fathom their reasons. We users might discuss its pros and cons, argue for the course to reinstate it, or against. The decision is ultimately theirs alone, but they might take into consideration what this thread comes up with.

While I understand your reasoning, all it would do is cause more trolling and accusations of "down votes". You seem to assume everyone would be mature enough to use the features correctly and within reason. Very nice of you but sadly mistaken.

If you/someone else resort to using LOL because there is nothing better then it's you/them who is using it incorrectly. If you don't agree with any of the options - don't click one.

My understanding of the LOL button is purely if something made you laugh. While one thing may not make me laugh, it may make you laugh even if it's just because the post is ridiculous.

If it's something you truly disagree with that needs to be expressed, that's what commenting is for. To create and inspire dialogue be it to resolve issues or give feedback or even offer your perspective as it may change someone elses' view.

It's important that if we disagree with something that we give our opinions and explain why or nobody will learn anything.

People are just less likely to abuse positive buttons than negative ones.

tl;dr: Not having a disagree button encourages discussion.

No, seriously, resorting to hitting "lol" b/c you disagree is just silly. For one thing, it mudies when people have hit "lol" b/c you've actually made a humorous comment versus them thinking you're crazy.

A polite "disagree" would be lovely. It doesn't have to be like Topix where we get to call people names, though that would be fun, just a very nice "not loving it" button.

    Thank you.

I don't think a disagree option is necessary.

If someone disagrees with a post, quote it and post a counter argument. Others may then agree with the counter argument, effectively disagreeing with the original argument \ premise.

Actually what i am assuming is that people would be mature enough not to care if they got a disagree. Obviously that is where i make my mistake. If someone were bored enough to disagree with everything i ever posted, i would actually be more impressed i motivated someone to that level of action, not up in arms over some random fella on the interwebs having a giggle on me.

Now obviously i have been proven wrong. Since we don't have a disagree button, because people were all upset over random unknown people pressing a button on their post that didn't do anything.

But that doesn't mean i cant disagree with it!

Your thinking makes sense but having a button lets someone just disagree without discussion to get things out in the open so we can come up with solutions or feedback that can be used. I see your thinking though! Khajiit has to go to work now. Please keep an eye on @KhajitFurTrader‌ for this one.

I wonder why I got a "disagree" when I made a simple post with the words "Thank you?" How can someone disagree with a "Thank you" post?" :o

    That was not the issue.

If you did not like a player, you could literally go to every one of his posts and hit disagree.

So, at the end of the day, almost every post just had a bunch of disagrees. So, it ended up not meaning anything.

As stated earlier ZOS would rather hear a real reason for a disagreement than a just /disagree button.

Well.. there's a reason there's no "dislike" button even on facebook

People are more likely do take the extra second to hit disagree button than they are to hit agree on posts they agree with. And then almost everyone (who's not ass licker) ends up with negative score, because there is ALWAYS someone who disagrees (normal or troll).

    Nothing offensive about disagree buttons.

Totally. I don't really care if someone disagrees with me - and I support their right to do so. I'm no Voltaire though and I'm not going to defend to my death their right to say it though. I mean, really. Just shhhh a little and have a drink already.

And do you think the developers were sitting around looking at things going, oh my this has 50 disagrees we better not do this!

No, but I bet they would rather hear a real reason for a disagreement than a just /disagree button.

Huh. Ok. Yeah. I can see that, if someone wants to waste their entire day trolling my posts because they hate me enough to disagree over and over - on the internet - that I would get all upset and...no. No, seriously, who cares if someone wants to troll all my posts? I mean, wow, what kind of loser would do that? I'd feel great that someone would spend all their time on me - thanks! Quite flattered, actually.

Anyways, if that's a serious concern for some people, it's a pretty simple solution to limit the disagrees to any one person to one every 10 days or so. I've been on other forums where you couldn't hand out reputation to the same person more than three times without some kind of break.

The thing is, sometimes I'm reading someone and their response is unworthy of a critical comment. I just want to hit "I don't agree" or "nah" or something not overly rude, but in disagreement. How about "Sorry..."

Thanks, kind of you to say. Yeah, no. If someone has said something I don't agree with, but don't consider worth commenting on, I just want to hit "nope." I don't want to downvote it - other people's agreements are valid - I just want to register my dissaproval.

But right now, to be honest, I just want a "no pink!" button.

    :-p

This has nothing to do with the feelings of the posters.

Posters would literally go to everyone else's posts and hit disagree, making to tool useless.

So, at the end of the day, almost every post just had a bunch of disagrees. So, it ended up not meaning anything.

I'm not saying this would happen. I'm saying this ALREADY happened.

ZOS would rather hear a real reason for a disagreement than a just /disagree button.

If you added a /disgree it would add no value to the threads for anyone.

Well, a "Sorry, but..." button, implying a "Sorry, but I have to disagree", would be pretty pointless to have, if there is no followup explaining what you're disagreeing with. All of the post? Some of it? Disagree with the poster's nick or avatar? We wouldn't ever know...

But expanding on your idea, in addition to having "Insightful", "Agree", and "Awesome", there could be their counterparts, such as "Dim-witted", "Nuh-uh!", and "Totally lame, dude".

"LOL" either stays the same way, or it could be split into "ROFLMAOASC" (genuinely, even if you don't own a scare-able cat) and "LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL" (sarcastically, exact number of "O"s debatable). That sure would help to avoid confusion. :P

Edit: Now I totally want a "DOH!" button.

Incorrect. It would add value to me and the other people who pressed "agree" with my OP above. And maybe the lol people - or...maybe not :expressionless:

I just don't take your above point seriously and I already addressed it as "well, Zenmax could very easily make it so you couldn't disagree with the same poster more than once in 10 days or whatever length of time they determined would be enough (to stop crazy trolls from wasting all their times finding old posts).

As I wrote above, I used to be part of another forum that wouldn't allow people to give rep to the same person often in a certain amount of time - so it's quite easy to do that.

Besides, disagrees, and low marks/score downs, just invite pissing contests, as they encourage trolls and bitterness anyway. As others have pointed out from experience too.
