Random Fiend Invites?

I don't mind invites from folks who I have grouped with in a group dungeon. But I get the occasional "friend" invite out of the blue. Is there some neferious point behind these?

Or who knows maybe they want to see your account name for some malicious reason. I decline those, but now I sit at a maxed out 100 friends so it's no longer an issue for me. It is however, very annoying. It's hard to fix that, but I have seen someone spam it before after I hit decline which leads me to believe it was automatic? Of course they were reported and put on ignore.1 -
