Huge Game Breaking Bug. 1 Week No Response.

    Crazy that it took almost a month for them to cobble together something that there should be a restore system in place for.

    But OK..there's no restore system. And it took them a ridiculous amount of time to apply the best solution they could.

    But here's something they DO have control over: Compensation. A paying customer went through all of this and they give him 30 free days (21 of which he couldn't play?)

    They should have given him 90 days minimum and maybe something meaningful in-game such as a full, free bank unlock or a few stacks of great consumables. Just something to say 'hey, we value you and really regret what you went through and the time it took us to act".

    Little things like that go a long way.

    while your at it why not just boost his character to VR 12, and buff him to original DK unnerfed, oh and why not just have him never die, just give it all to him, it's just some little things

    I gave 3 examples of things they could have done, ranging from some free sub time to a few stacks of consumables. Those pale in comparison to what he lost (including being unable to play for over 3 weeks) and would have been a nice touch.

    Wow - this is unbelievable customer service. I am no MMO programmer - but cant they go back to the date this happened and roll that toon back to its former glory? Why is this such an insurmountable issue?

    Totally agree, this should have been resolved with a rollback unless that is also broken and we dont know about it. This is incredibly serious and it should have been taken care of a long time ago. If this kind of bug happens to me I'm permanently gone. Also getting tired of their updates adding more bugs and all the hard core nerfing being done is rediculace!

    ah but you see how someone can take these things, and then believe that could get away with more, another side of the story, other will see that someone banked out on an issue, so the next time they have an issue, they will probably blow it out of proportion to get the same treatment. and then there is everyone else that also have issues, but didn't get to this one then they learn they could have gotten these rewards if they were just affected too. Similar how people not to VR yet, wont get to take advantage of the anomaly farm because of todays patch. It's a ripple effect, and honestly one person's loyalty isnt worth that much damage

    @Calorath, the character isn't stored in a Microsoft SQL database table. Nothing is that simple here. You've got to keep in mind they're dealing with way, way, way more customers than staff members (then work out how many staff members would have THAT level of access and knowledge).

    In hindsight, Zenimax shouldn't have launched until they had easy-to-use tools for support to restore characters to earlier states, along with advance quest stages etc. In cases like these, and the quest bugs, they could have then easily and properly assisted people. That didn't happened, and those tools are, I suspect, a long way away. Live and learn.
    Did I mention I work on MaNGOS? I still fail to see the need for a tool for this crap when all major databases have these tools built into them. Backup and restore is cake. Ever use MySQL Workbench? Just set automatic backups when players logout, and then you can use the tool to restore any player in a snap. Now if we're talking about a database that isn't normalized and is entry-level at best, I feel you!

    Either way, all player data should be backed up at a minimum daily. This includes horses, items, bank, etc. It should not be this hard! I feel for the OP.
