This has probably been asked before, but why is everyone running or riding their horses full tilt even in the towns?
Okay, I like to feel like I am "there", so I walk unless I'm running to a dolmen or running for my life, but it seems as if everyone else is trying to rush through the game. Or is it?

I never owned a horse in Skyrim. Sadly this does not even come close to a TES game as far as exploration is concerned.

I do not rush through the game just because I a horse, BTW. I still read all the books and listen to all the quests. Ever think we have been in that area a lot and are just going to the next? :)

I am usually running to get to a bank or crafting station. If I am in the wilds exploring I typically walk if I am on the look out for either enemies or treasure. I rarely hit the SHIFT key and run fast though. That is only if I have a pack of rabid skeevers on my tail or my toon or I have to bio.

Yes cisadanepajsuxrwb - there is that: human competition. There is also the widely proven herd mentality of 'not wanting to be left behind', often even while not knowing what one is in pursuit of, or headed toward ;o/.

I feel certain we don't live in a cave anymore because our intelligence provides comparision of convenience, comfort and even luxurious surroundings versus living the hard life. The whole 'if everyone else is doing it, it must be valuable so I will too' thing is somewhere on the most introductory layers of critical thinking.

    Exactly.
And the sad part is; people even often go against the own nature in an effort not to be left behind. Which in the end just leaves them often frustrated, confused and even angry.

Then I guess they head to the forums and post in frustration as some sort of sub conscious form of therapy

You two should ease up on the self-righteous pseudo-intellectual analysis, you are making fools of yourselves.

Hahah Maybe you should stop projecting on gaming forums for a bit, it's sad :(

I hardly ever ride a horse unless grouping. While questing, go from one quest hub to the next one geographically. However, most of my running is done in town while doing banking, selling, crafting, admin crap, etc.

I have one rule I take into any mmo. If I see someone walking? I stay far away from them. They are likely dangerous individuals just waiting to snap. A ticking timebomb. It's best to alert the authorities even. Walking is a sure sign of something wrong.

As much crap as gamers in general get from the general public, what for are you picking at another gamer for their style?

You do realize that there at individuals with mental/physical disabilities that roleplaying opens doors to for experiences that could simulate otherwise.

I see roleplaying no different than getting lost in a movie or a book.

So take your judgmental attitude, and shove it.

Quite. I sprint or run all the time.

The reality is that I (in common with most people, I guess), have very limited time in-game, I'd prefer to spend it doing something interesting than walking through town for the millionth time.

I do take the time to read all the quest text etc (which is a pain in group dungeons because everybody else has already run off by the time I finish).

LOL. Happens to me all the time. We bring down some larger mob and the group runs off while I am still checking out bookshelves. By the time I am finished the bob has respawned and I am skeever toast.

    this here.

i live a bit in the country and have a garden, so i do my strolling and watching sunsets in real life.

in game i just wanna kill stuff and do stuff.
im glad there isnt a bunch of cut scenes, i watch movies and tv shows for that.

when im playing with my friend we will actually "travel to player" on each other just so we dont have to run every where after a quest hub is done.
unless we are closer to where we need to go obviously, but those quest hubs that are dead end area's we do the travel to each other religiously.

but anyway that is just what we do.

I can easily understand why you like to wander through at snail's pace taking it all in and enjoying the game your way. I can also understand that all these fruitloops running around, especially galloping mounted players, would break your immersion and be somewhat annoying. I don't have any suggestions to fix that for you unfortunately other than, maybe, take the back alleys; there's less traffic there.

I have a suggestion for him.

Just pretend that your in a bustling city. People rushing around for all sorts reasons: a war is happening, a lady needs saving, their hair is on fire... whatever. Just realize that you are a spectator with some special insight. Be amused. Peer around at these poor souls with some pity as they don't see what they're missing.

I knew a great roleplayer once in World of Warcraft who played an old orc warlock. He always walked. He never complained about anyone else. He just did his thing and he earned an amazing amount of respect. He was a lot of fun to interact with. I wasn't a role player myself but after a time I looked forward to meeting him in the cities and talking to him - in character, something I never used to do.

My point: don't fret over this. Just do your thing.

Run/walk is optional I remember rpgs where there was no running or mounts the worlds were a lot smaller but far more vast. What really bugs me is the bunny hop crouching movement, that just annoys the hell out of me.

I like to walk sometimes but they always set walk so slow. I've always felt that walk should be about half again as fast as it is and run should be almost as fast as they set sprint. I always hate escort missions when if you walk you are too slow and when you run you are too fast. The speed of the npc should be our walk speed.

Honestly...most of us have real life obligations...work...family...etc...and have left the days of couch surfing rent free in our parents basement behind us. Running enables us to log in....accomplish things...then go back to reality. If I walked everywhere in this game my weeknight gaming session would look like this...." finally online....now to walk to this quest objective....oops look at the time. Guess ill have to finish walkimg there tomorrow."

I just had to lol at this. Guess your life is too hectic to read that the OP is far from living in his parents basement rent free. Sorry you can't get in and accomplish anything, but keep your inadequacies to yourself, as I know not everyone has your gameplay issues. I, for one, hit the "Play" button and start playing within 45 seconds. Gives me 3 to 3 1/2 hours of solid game time each and every weeknight (which I spend playing with the family that you touted in your post).

@rrood41828 I'm with you. Some night's that my wife and I get online, all we accomplish is a few hours of fishing, walking around and maybe getting a quest or two done. Other nights, however, we do run around from place to place. It really depends on our mood.

Everyone pays $12-$15 a month to play how they like. No one's way is right, except to themselves.

Where does the op discuss his busy family or work life in his post? Oh right he doesn't. Im all for everyone playing their way....but coming down on me because I gave an explanation as to why I (and many others) am running everywhere makes little to no sense. Innadequacies? Wth are you talkimg about. I guess my satirical rant about what my gaming session would be like if I walked everywhere was lost in translation or something.

Wow, just feel the love. :) Actually, whether or not I walk depends on whether I am playing alone or on who I am grouping with. One daughter and her husband like to run, so we run. Another daughter likes to take her time, so we walk, fish, etc. When we play together, the one girl usually runs off and manages to get herself killed or brings us the train.

I almost never ride a horse outside of town. I walk/run because every 5 secs there is some mat I want to harvest and getting on/off my horse so often is annoying. As for why people run in town it's because they are in a hurry to do whatever it is they are doing.

I walk in town, unless there's a time issue ( I don't have enough of it during the current session ). It's nice to just stroll and actually take in the view. Cities are really pretty. It also gives me a chance to see who else is walking as a cue to maybe strike up an in-character conversation.
