A lot of times I just walk around town, take my horse for a ride in the country, stand around playing my lute, etc.

How do you walk in this game? I mean in SWTOR you pressed / and your toon walked slowly, had some funny moments in raids with that lol. Haven't figured out (or bothered to look for answer lol) how it works in this game.

Usually when I have to follow a quest dude and when they walk slowly, I think of this again, cos it feels a bit stupid to run bit by bit along the side when the pace is so slow :D

You walk by not pressing shift, not sure how you go slow though, except by going into stealth.

Controls/ toggle walk/run to make yourself (and horsie) walk. It's about 4 or 5 down I think.

Humans' competitive nature isnt it. If you can accomplish more in lesser time, it is better for your overall achievements. That is why we dont live in a cave anymore.

Yes cisadanepajsuxrwb - there is that: human competition. There is also the widely proven herd mentality of 'not wanting to be left behind', often even while not knowing what one is in pursuit of, or headed toward ;o/.

I feel certain we don't live in a cave anymore because our intelligence provides comparision of convenience, comfort and even luxurious surroundings versus living the hard life. You could explore the User Interface in a game and make it work for you:

    NA - Check the sig.
FYI - There is no such thing as 'night capping' in a world wide MMO.
FYI - There was no paid Beta. When they launched the game the Beta was over, even if you don't think it was.
    FYI - It's B2P not F2P. There is a difference.
FYI - It doesn't take any player skill to mash keys or buttons in this game. The ones that stay alive longer have the better internet connection and speed.
FYI - The game is not broken, it still works. It just has 'bugs' that need to be fixed.
    Balance is a "Bad" thing.

Example: There were hundreds of Jedi and only two Sith in Star Wars. The Jedi wanted, "Balance in the Force" and they got it. Now there are only two Jedi and two Sith.

Okay, I like to feel like I am "there", so I walk unless I'm running to a dolmen or running for my life, but it seems as if everyone else is trying to rush through the game. Or is it?
    .

usually for me it's because I'm in a hurry to empty my inv so that I can get back to my game play, or empty it before I go into PvP. I have no desire to walk through a town every time my inv is full (which is very often in this game)

Running enables us to log in....accomplish things...then go back to reality. My horse is so slow I think he's doing something between a walk and a trot. I don't really know what you'd call it. But that's the pace I use normally to get everywhere. I figure it makes more sense for my horse to be trotting along than it does for me to be running everywhere. And walking is just far too slow.

When I'm actually out in the wilds hunting, questing and gathering, I'm usually sneaking all over the place.

So many times I have been whispered by people asking how I am able to walk, or they stop and do a double take, or follow me in start and stop runs as if wondering how a real player and not an npc is able to walk.
Is it that unobvious that the controls can be set up the way you like? Just curious.
Try walking around and see how long it takes.

    Exactly.
And the sad part is; people even often go against the own nature in an effort not to be left behind. Which in the end just leaves them often frustrated, confused and even angry.

Then I guess they head to the forums and post in frustration as some sort of sub conscious form of therapy

I am level 44 on my main character, and been here since early access, I am hardly rushing content. Just because I run around towns or use my horse, does not mean I fit into the rushing content hypothesis.

I may be running, because I am trying to catch up to group members. Or maybe to maximise my play time as much as I can, by quickening yet another crafting/deconstruct, and bank swapping session. I take enough hours of my game time doing that as it is. I will be buggered if I am going to extend that further to appease someones feel of immersion.

I walk sometimes. Mostly when I'm all done with the town stuff and waiting on my brother to finish, or when the NPC I'm travelling with is also walking (side note, they either need to speed up or slow down the Groundskeeper a notch. Too slow to run, too fast to walk). But from one town to another? Nope. Never have, probably never will. There's a beautiful world outside to go around smelling the roses in, when I go in game it's for the express purpose to beating things up and taking their lunch money as efficiently as possible.

When I feel like taking it slowly and enjoying the scenery, I bust out the fishing pole. Kinda odd now that I think about it, normally I can never get things done quickly enough and can't abide wasting time on frivolous stuff but my favorite thing to do in any MMO is find a favorite fishing spot.

I ride my horse a lot, but don't usually sprint... I might miss a flower or something... I would prefer to walk, but I play with someone who wants to be efficient and walking is not an efficient way to get from A to B. When I play alone, I only sprint when racing to a dolmen or world boss I've promised to help with. I dont like to keep others waiting.

I like to get to places faster and walking is dreadfully slow. Even in real life I'm a fast walker, people often can't keep up with me. If I could run all the time, I probably would. I do walk in ESO sometimes, but almost exclusively in towns: I want to avoid passing through other characters, it feels more natural.

I've never felt the need to get more immersed by walking everywhere. I take breaks, sit near a lake, take in the view, go fishing, read books, talk to NPCs. But the rest of the time I want to do something productive, not spend half of my gaming session just walking to the quest destination.

My female characters walk because like almost all other animations in this game it looks natural. My male characters however will not walk because that animation is downright terrible. Males walk like they are constipated or something, there is no smoothness or any natural feel to it. That animation annoys me so they won't walk until Zenimax fixes it, if they will ever got around to it which would surprise me since I think they will consider it a very low priority issue or may just disagree with me and love the animation themselves.

I completely agree! I've tried to play male characters but end up getting annoyed with the silly way they walk and even the running looks really stiff and awkward to me.

I just had to lol at this. Guess your life is too hectic to read that the OP is far from living in his parents basement rent free. Sorry you can't get in and accomplish anything, but keep your inadequacies to yourself, as I know not everyone has your gameplay issues. I, for one, hit the "Play" button and start playing within 45 seconds. Gives me 3 to 3 1/2 hours of solid game time each and every weeknight (which I spend playing with the family that you touted in your post).

@rrood41828 I'm with you. Some night's that my wife and I get online, all we accomplish is a few hours of fishing, walking around and maybe getting a quest or two done. Other nights, however, we do run around from place to place. It really depends on our mood.

Everyone pays $12-$15 a month to play how they like. No one's way is right, except to themselves.
