Player Housing 2 years? It better be damn good ! ! !

Well Zenimax has already said its likely to be after the 2nd anniversary before we see player housing (personally I think that's way too late). I've just watched a video of the player housing in Wildstar and OMG ! All I can say is ESO's player housing had better be good if this is the standards other MMO's are setting. (RIFT did it great, Wildstar now better)

Well Zenimax, you got 2 years to sort out player housing and it'd better be AAA rating quality. I'm talking Skyrim epic levels of housing. The gauntlet has been thrown down, zeni... don't let us down ! ! !

;)

Edit - Zenimax statement referenced in my post
Creative director Paul Sage told IGN May 22nd, 2014...

Another feature often asked about is Player Housing; fans of previous entries in the series widely agree that owning property in Tamriel is a fairly integral part of the franchise, while MMO players tend to be keen to have somewhere to hang their hats, regardless of which fictional world it's in. Sadly, Sage says that while Player Housing would be nice, it's not likely to come until ESO has an anniversary or two.

Since when did Skyrim have epic housing? It was just an instance with some containers and a pretty poor excuse for a weapon display. Pointless upgrade system (by the time you bought a house, you probably bought every single upgrade anyway).

They didnt even have the ship from Daggerfall, now THAT would be epic. I'd name my Dominion warship the "Carrack Obama".

They might be talking about some of the housing options you could get with mods. Usually when I see people compare ESO to Skyrim they tend to compare Skyrim + whatever mods to ESO. There were some pretty fantastic house mods too.

Anyway, I'm not sure when housing "should" come out. I mean, if they released it now you'd get a bunch of people up in arms about how they didn't balance things first, or add additional paths to level, or fix bugs.. kinda like what happened when Craglorn came out, even though that was suppose to be in at launch so it was already mostly done.. and they stated they had separate teams working on the two. Two years is a little far out there, but if you want a really in depth system like what Wildstar and Rift have, then it's going to take time. Especially if housing wasn't something they planned on adding from the beginning, or don't have any real progress towards currently.

Rift took a little over a year to come out with their housing, if I remember right.. and while it is amazing, it's not quite as in depth as Wildstar's, who developed it as one of the selling points of their game (or at least seem to advertise it that way). Those kind of systems do actually take a good deal of time to program.

I don't think player housing would be particularly difficult to do.

    Good question.

Also, do they have people working on it now? They probably should. Even if it's true, 2 years had better see some seriously epic housing. I mean, imagine the fallout if it was longer than that? Thus, get some guys on that sooner rather than later. It's possibly the single most desired update to the game they could make.

You know. Excepting perhaps an AH.

I never said Wildstar was aesthetically pleasing (you should see some of the actual neon levels) Personally I love the pseudo-realistic style of ESO (and skyrim) But if you look at the variation, customisation options the WS housing has, that's what I mean for ESO to strive for !

Depends where you live, in Britian it would probably take eighteen months to get planning permission. Then you have to wait for inspectors at various points, to make sure it's up to regulation, and delays in supplies turning up.

Of course the actual building the house would go much quicker. Just the red tape.

I think you'll find the gauntlet is being set by Shroud of the Avatar, still in Alpha but OMG it looks so promising. Different styles, wooden...treehouse...longhouse...castle...ect...and even 4 tier basements.

Yes I can agree thou that ESO better have awesome housing or you'll lose a lot of would be long term players. No where to call home in-game means you never put down roots in-game and thus never immerse yourself in it.

On a different note I thought of some good ideas to tag in with housing...

    - Make houses accessible to anyone but only owner can access storage stuff but wait!!! there's more.....Add thieving quests where upon taking the quest you have to find the house and then steal an item (quest linked) from the house. (Thieves Guild)

    - also make it so housing is PvP if your in the Dark Brotherhood (quest related of course) and then you can have 1 on 1 PvP with the owner (they would be BD also) for body count quests.

Obviously these are just quick ideas but I think they could have legs?

Does anyone remember how Vanguard did housing? You actually had to build your house and buy the plot of land to put it on. You could also build your own ships from small skiffs all the way to galleons. Guild halls took a monumental effort by all guild members to make.

Horizons (now called Istaria) had the first and still one of the best crafting parts of any MMO and you had to build your own house, next i'd say was UO with the sheer amount of customisation you could do. Shroud of the Avatar is basically mixing these two together into what is really just everything you could do in UO but in 3D version.

ESO has some very big shoes to try and pinch if it wants long time subscribers (16 years for UO and 12 for Istaria). As has been said many times already, it's full immersion into a game that keeps you logged in.
Fighting alone will not cut the mustard for keeping you interested in a game as it's played far quicker than can be created.

ESO needs to get a team together and implement some true RPG stuff quickly as it's these subscribers that keep games going for so many years not the Pew Pew players who are always onto the 'next big game'.

Lose the geeks and you lose the game.

Yeah I am playing both atm (temporarily) to see which one I'm going to really invest in. I know it's only a small part of a game, but the player housing is a huge draw for me personally with wildstar. It is amazing, and really well done.

I really really really hope that they don't wait 2 years to add it, or especially Guild halls, as community is a huge factor for me in an MMO and right now there is no way in-game to have any. Our guild just needs a place where we can all meet and be in the same instance, but cannot do so with the phases/lack of guild halls.

Really hope they realize that and move it to a higher priority.
