after playing MMO's for 14 years, I know I have a decent grasp in numbers, and my guess of 40-50k of "Subcribers" (buying more game time after 30 days after purchase) is giving ESO more credit than due. only newbies to MMO's think 50k is small.

I dont care how long you have been playing MMOs for. All you have to work with is hearsay and speculation. I have my fair share of experience and I still wouldnt make an assumption without any facts to back it up. You won't agree with me regardless of any points I try to make, so only time will tell. Well gee, I'm sorry I discounted your extensive experience in online gaming. The fact remains that experience playing games does not translate into predicting how many people may be playing a given game with no data to back it up. And I quite enjoy playing ESO and don't feel it is a waste of money at all. If you feel that way I recommend you find another game that makes you happy. Oh, and by the way there were way more than 50k people that applied to beta test the game. Oh, and it may very well be that you aren't the only one with more than a decade's experience in the genre. Just some food for thought for ya

WoW started off with lots of sub numbers which took them by surprise and subs kept growing every month until it peaked in WotLK. 12+ mill or so? Maybe that game's initial success was an anomaly but who knows.

Pretty much.....massive sub drops + box price decreases within the first 3 months is NORMAL for bad MMOs, period. History is repeating itself once again in ESO.

Actually, the 12 mil peak was short of the Cataclysm release. They reached 12 mil on Oct 7, 2010 and Cata was released same year in December. The drops have always been due to the content release lag and always spike with new expansions.

That about racing to 50 is an excuse for part time players. There is no race to 50, you can be to 50 in a matter of days just questing or actually playing the game and logging in for an hour or 2 a day is not playing its just trolling.

Before you start spouting gibberish you might want to experience the game first and lvl 31 is not experiencing it yet.

    Hi

If you have that many years of MMO, what bases do you have for coming up with ANY number. 50k current subscribers sounds low to me, because of the amount of players in different Cyrodiil campagns.

The amount of players in PVE zones, both on EU and US server. The figure sounds a bit low.

I lack information to give even a guess estimate, but as much as I think 50k current subscribers are low, I think 2 million current subscribers are high.

I dont think its anywhere in between, just stating what I base on 50k only subscribers.

The only uncertainty factor is how many people are happily looting sacks and questing around slowly in low level areas and are happy with it. But it is a big one, i will admit it.

High Level areas are visible for high level players, PVP is even more.
You can see how non-official forums die down, you can see the attention this game gets or no longer gets from multigaming guilds/clans and so on.

I would not discount the single player appeal, i have no idea how well the game does. But they are not listening to the multiplayer gamers, but to the rpg/immersion crowd. If things were looking bleak for them they would at least try to fix some of the more easy things up, wouldnt they?

You don't think ZeniMax wants to know why people are leaving? Do they have a retention survey for people who unsub (and does it have open boxes for actual responses or is it like WoW's unsub polls that had very specific complaints they were already planning to fix and nothing else)?
    @bean1
Of all the surveys I did fill out for Zenimax regarding ESO that was the only one that was never offered. They just cancel the sub and send a confirmation email, that's it.

They got a survey, with questions why you unsub etc.

As a private company they don`t have to say... the only way they will say is if its a good number they can share with everyone as a "come play our game, look at how many millions are already playing it, join the fun"...

Since its clear the game is not doing so well based on the many offers to get it cheap i doubt we will see a sub number release for now.

When they do share it it might be to use it as an argument like "we only had this many subs, this is why we are moving to a F2P system".

Either way, a thread like this one won`t make them share it... best guess right now based on metric websites and average people quitting based on the guilds i am in would be about 300.000-400.000 subscriptions, some of them stuck like me + some guildies who bought more months at the start.

don't forget, people still on their first month of play time are technically not subs.

That didn't stop SWTOR from including those numbers.

As a privately held company, don't look for Zenimax Media to release this game's sub numbers. They're certainly not going to answer a forum query about it.

Zenimax Media through Bethesda released Skyrim numbers on launch day and a week after launch and a few months after launch. I wonder what's different with eso?

And don't forget the 5 million accounts for ESO beta. They did tell us about that in a big way really.

I unsubscribed, but got a game time card for 60 days, still 29 days left I think. At that point I'll really have to think about it because this is a dress and stick game.

Edit 1: Didn't really notice that there were 5 pages already so eveything but my days were most likely said already. Sorry.

As of now.... it's no longer in progress.

Regardless, I'm sure there are plenty of subs but ZOS isn't publically traded so they don't have to publically release such numbers unless they just feel like bragging, etc.. It's a great game, this nor ANY game that will ever be made will satisfy everyone. It's always the same thing too, the majority of people crying and complaining flocking to the forums while the others are enjoying the game. Then mixed in, you have us who enjoy the game, provide feedback where we feel it's important, but don't stomp our feet crying expecting everything to be instant.

People slamming fists down, I quit. But still posting?

I bought a 3 month sub before the patch and now regret it. Can't get a refund so I play, get frustrated, and come back here to read others being frustrated too. Quitting a subscription only means they won't take more money out of you it doesn't mean you aren't currently paying to play.

If you want to REALLY make a stand call customer service and demand your account be cut off right away and that you want a full refund. Since you don't really want to play the only thing you'll lose is your forum access which you won't need anymore right? Win Win for everyone.

I say this is every f2p thread and I'll say it here: The only people who think this game is bad right now are ones with nostalgia goggles, or ones new to MMO's. If you've ever been at any mmo launch you'd know this is nothing new, and it comes with buying the MMO at launch.

Do I need to remind people of WoW's queues to get into the game (some that were in the THOUSANDS just to get it)?

What about the people on forums complaining about the grind?

The list goes on. Take your nostalgia goggles and enjoy the game. New generation of kiddies expect every bug/fix to have an "on/off" button.

WoW was a WRECK the first 6 months of release. hahah. WAY WAY WAY WAY worse then ESO's darkest day so far.

So was Starwars galaxies, and ultima online.

I think the only mmo's I've played that didn't have a disaster release day were the ones that were smaller and more niche so they didn't get plastered and overloaded on opening hour. Darkfall comes to mind but even it had problems, just not insane game breaking ones like wow did.

It's almost been 2 months now and I amongst many others would love to know how many other beautiful souls are playing with us.

Obviously the number of how many subs a game has doesn't determine whether I'll play a game or not. But I'd like to know how well the game I love is going, so I can brag about it or cry. :p

Dropping steadily I can assure you!

No, you can't assure him. Unless you are the Head of Sales at zenimax.

Yes he can because he has eyes and does not stick his head in the sand.

No it was not, it had problems but not in the way this game has.
This is one of the worst Releases i have endured.
It is obvious this game was released premature and with quite a few band aid fixes pre-release.

For gods sake, they couldnt even decide which New Player experience they wanted. Even Age of Conan had a polished Tortage...

Strange, I remember hours and hours of queues for weeks. I remember Deathwing, the server I played on, crashed and didn't come back for 28 hours. Maybe you're memories of day 1 Wow are a bit hazy?
