That patch should've been a hotfix..

Thaelgram_Westar
Most games/MMO's with patches that size are implemented as hotfixes throughout the week. I've seen like two hotfix patches, max. Why on earth should we wait for a week for an actual patch, for what seems to be small enough to be a hotfix? Why not just implement it (unless you literally take a week to debug and recode it) when the issue has been debugged and recoded? I can see if its big stuff that takes a week to implement, but a little small thing like a quest fix, or a skill itself, could easily be implemented in a hotfix.

I know that this post wont matter much, but I do want to at least make my voice heard on this.
War must be, while we defend our lives against a destroyer who would devour all; but I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend.

You apparently don't know what a hotfix is. A hotfix is a change made on the server, to make adjustments that do not require a client patch. These are typically VERY simple things like number adjustments. A client patch is *by definition* not a hotfix. Quit the armchair programming, you obviously don't understand how it works.

When did I ever state that a client patch or a hotfix were the same thing?

I simply just stated that some of those small fixes could have been implemented at the time they were fixed, instead of waiting for a week to roll them out client side. Chill, bro.

Regardless of the specifics regarding naming conventions and their definitions in different sectors, I agree with OP. For being a "patch" they minorly hyped up with a preview and several mentions that a new patch was coming to calm down people clamoring for it, it was pretty lackluster.

I just think back to Rift and Trion, where Trion was constantly putting out patches of this size, doing it in 20-40 minutes max, and not even making a stink about it, because they were tiny fixes and constantly coming down the pipe.

...seriously, someone told me that once here. The things people will do to win their internet arguments!

If they could've implemented the changes server side without a client patch, they would have. The fact that it was done with a client patch means a client patch was required to make these changes. You don't know how the client and server work. Saying something could've been done without a client patch is rather blatantly wrong, since 1) you have no way to know that, and 2) the fact that the changes were made with a client patch means there was no way to hotfix it.

They actually make hotfixes all of the time to make minor adjustments in this game.

You're seriously misunderstanding what I'm trying to say then. Servers and clients work in-tandem, this I know. Some things DO require a client-side patch to update, this I know. Both server and client have to be updated together for things to work correctly, this I know. According to a dev post, they update the server on Monday for new builds, and Thursday for server restart and to implement a hotfix.

All I'm saying, is that they need to hotfix more often. A skill value, especially something that reduces/adds to the cooldown or resource, should be able to be applied in a hotfix, rather than waiting for a client-side patch to implement, wouldn't you think?

They DO hotfix all the time. They don't give detailed notes on the hotfixes they put in like Blizzard does (they only give detailed client patch notes). There have been several hotfixes in the past couple of weeks to correct various issues.

I do agree that they should provide detailed notes on hotfixes like they do client patches (the way Blizzard does, although I should note that Blizzard only started this in the past year - prior to that they didn't document hotfixes either).

Zenimax has also been able to put in several hotfixes with the game running, without requiring a restart.
