All I know is, yesterday I was in a group for Wayrest Sewers and my computer didn't just overheat, my power supply capacitor exploded. Due to extensive memory leaks my computer overworked itself and my 500w ultra power supply couldn't handle it. I never had an issue with my computer overheating before this patch. I couldn't even pull the damn thing out after it popped because it was so hot.

Sounds to me like the hardware was out of spec and the power supply didn't have the capacity for the installed components, or was simply faulty, or both. I'd not start thinking that ESO is routinely going to blow up power supplies. My money would be on that machine being borderline to begin with, and ESO simply being the load that finally took it over the edge.

However, from the standpoint of overheating, I can see the argument. I would point out that plenty of software titles can overheat an incorrectly-built machine, and I've had to dial my CPU back on some titles myself due to heat (but I've deliberately overclocked my hardware, so I don't blame the software).

But it is a good safety tip: if your PC starts sounding like a jet engine, with the fans cranked up to max, it's likely a sign to work on system cooling and preventative measures to forestall something like that from happening.

While I don't like the OP's tone one bit

Yeah, I figured some might take issue. I have been one of the biggest "white knights" of this game on these forums since ...I don't know...August I guess?

But I am done with that now. And I let my tone be dictated by my frustration; it was fun to write it that way, too.

That said, the core issues of the post are solid, even if my style of expressing them offends. Which I think from your post, you agree with.

I think your tone was quite mild, as i would of been a lot worse,

So right, memory leaks do not damage hardware.
Generally, they are going to be slow enough that it will cause you to have to restart the program after a while. Worse case, restart the OS.

Memory leak cannot damage your computer physically... I do not know where people get their rumors at but first ask a computer technician... it's software, not physical so no fear here.

PS: The memory leak only happen when you are not login in your character. If you look at your task manager you will see if you are "in-game" that the memory leak has stop.

The OP may not have expressed their points with the most politeness or respect, but they are valid points. When I want tremendous patches that keep me from playing for a couple days and make the game work worse, I have Marvel Heroes.

It's sad... I went from a loving it advocate to seriously unable to stomach the game, shoddy design decision and all the problems. Been unsubbed since 2 days after the first sub hit. Only getting in forums to see all the melt down and how people are still trying to defend this crap.

Sadly it looks like many PTS users are using their time finding exploits, they can abuse after going live. Has happened several times now. Some patch/release goes live, and first couple of days some things are exploited big time, people get to max level / VR / AW level fast, it gets patch, and no rollback or ban or anything on the ones that have abused the living day lights out of it.

This is REALLY bad quality control! Kick the ones doing it from the PTS server, and actually invite people that intend to find and report bugs/flaws, NOT the exploiters.

I have to say that in the recent updates, changes, patches and breakdowns, it does seem that Zenimax is stumbling in the dark when it comes to running an MMO.

Per example when they patch things, it seemingly is a problem telling the client to check for a new patch and apply if necessary. And how they managed to patch in a memory leak that wasn't there in the beginning is a bit dodgy.

But it's all the small things that starts to mount up a bit on the actual knowledge that Zenimax have to run an MMO. I won't go so far as call them incompetent, because they have shown that they can put out an MMO, but I would call them very inexperienced in running an MMO. One thing is developing, another is maintaining it over the course of years. There always seem to be a bug, an issue, an exploit or something within the game itself that should have been uncovered with some extended QA testing. Take the Kardala grind, it's the simplest thing for a QA testing to uncover as it's simply repeating the task. It took the players less than a day to figure it out.

If Zenimax online lacks the actual experience to successfully run and manage an MMO, they should call in some to help them. Those still paying for this game are running out of patience, and no content patch in the world can call them back of their experience has been bad previously on the game.

Yes, might be an idea to expand the PTS group a lot, this will increase the chance of exploits getting reported, even mild exploits like 4x xp or loot.

patching on friday is dumb enough by itself.

While it might be easy to say Zeni should "get help", I have a feeling they're in the bit of a spot they're in (whatever it may be, I'm not having that many issues myself) is because computer programmers are like anyone else in the trades -

Old dogs don't just hand their hard-learned tricks out for free to young whippersnapping pups. They won't even teach it to those paying them to do the work. They know if that everyone knows their little tricks, those old dogs are out in favour of youngbloods. If you want to learn the tricks of the trade that the schools don't teach you, you learn 'em the hard way, just like the old dogs had to.

While I am tempted to troll really hard, I just want to say I think this is a misconception. I think that the Americans who feel this way are just the loudest ones.

Also, I hope players abroad can understand that this is one of our important holidays, stores close, jobs pay overtime, etc. It's not as bad as golden week in japan, stopping me from getting manga.

So, about this "damaging the hardware" thing.

There are campfire stories of hardware overheating, not on this game, but from bugs in other software. Burning out CPUs and ram, etc.

I think that could be avoided by just rebooting quickly.

Protip: Your fans don't cool off your heat sink unless the computer is on. If you overheat, it's usually better to turn it back on.

All these essays, complaints and comparisions, yet everyone forgets what said game was like launch to 2 months in. I could play ESO on launch day, I couldn't for every other mmo (including d2) and my *** up class builds are viable out of the gate (shadow priest anyone?), remember that (and you won't) whilst you kill this promising game.

Why not be supportive of your community and embrace an open minded concept that includes the possibility that a significant portion of the community is struggling with the concerns as eloquently expressed in the post assertion.

I doubt the majority of forum respondents with constructive feedback would embrace your "Thanks for the QQ" as anything but disdainful and unproductive.
