I usually play females in rpgs though I am a guy except if it's one of those games with romance options.Even then I usually play female and just don't do any of the romance quests. In TESO I will probably not get far with anything except Dunmer females.

I also like to play the most non human race a game offers as a male. In TES I am however not very impressed with the Argonian or Khajiit since they are just too human. If Khajiths were more like GW2 Charr I would have played them exclusively as males.

I do not like playing anything that resembles me even though I usually can get pretty close of making a lookalike. Even worse if they remember of someone I know. And human guy PCs start to annoy me most of the time at some point.

Oh and if the game has burly dwarfs I do go male.

Lol afraid to do the romance options?

Well I did go all the way with Garrus as a female. :p
...and I would have done it with a male also...

I am a male playing a male. I also believe the stereotype about "most female characters are either fat, heinous or men" is true. I also wonder how your post would have read if you had separated gender by Cysnogenic and Tranny. That would shed more light on the results.

I could support Account Bound Gender (even better if hooked to your identity but that will be another few years). Some games already do have that, and I have always found the idea of a person posing as a member of the other gender to be tasteless and creepy.

I never understand the playing "other gender to be tasteless and creepy" line of thought. After all none of us are catpeople/elves/orcs/lizardpeople/mages/people with superpowers like intermittent dragon wings in real life (and few are accomplished martial artists/fencers/archers). If one is going for all those aspects that are different from oneself, then what is the difference in playing the opposite gender?

I mostly play my own gender as it very hard to do a very realistic portrayal of the other gender but all kudos to those that do pull it off well. For the same reason I stick to various cultures of humans for the most part but really appreciate those that can give a decent portrayal of other species.

    I'm male and I have 6 chars -> 3 male and 3 female.

My main is male, my two secondary are females, and the rest are bank mules.

I'm intending to start a 4th char (as in, non mule) to be able to experience the Nightblade class, and it will probably be male, to balance things out :)

BTW, I didn't answered the poll since none of the options apply

    EDIT: clarification.

Male playing female isn't always about sexualizing it. I can respect the closer you are to the character the more you can identify/ be immersed. But Its like people trying to say they have to have an attractive backside to look at the whole time, and others thinking every one who plays other gender is doing it for such reasons.

Agreed - if you RP a character then you need to go with the gender... A male Arwen makes no sense, just as a female Aragorn is silly....

I actually am playing my characters from the various Elder Scrolls games I've played over the years. As such:

Galen the Black will always be a Male Breton Heavy armor sword and shield Knightmage (he's also my Main, also invented class)

Amarathea Vardamir will always be a Female elf (usually high elf)

Chanthima Vardamir will always be a Female human Healer in robes

Cat-got-your-tongue will always be a female Khajit sneak thief (as if the name doesn't give it away)

Ghallah nar Hhallas will always be a Male khajit 2hd warrior (hobbes of kilrathi fame from wing commander video game is the most famous member of the Hhallas clan)

Galenicatus will always be my Male Argonian explorer who likes to poke his snout into everything and everywhere, even if he shouldn't

Really? Another thread like this? Every game has this thread and there will be another new one in 4 months. There's no psychology paper behind it and the whole see the backside crap is bs. That's guys covering for the real issues: you're channeling your female side and who cares? That's not abnormal. Are you all new to gaming? This thread is 20 years old.

Playing as the opposite sex dont mean crap. If it bothers you, you're most likely a stuffy, shallow, sheltered individual. If you do it, you're not weird.

Go google this topic and read the millions of threads already about it.

Agreed, that's why I didn't say everyone playing a female character does it for that reason. I did not even imply it.

Female playing female....always. I could never relate to a male character, but it's annoying to have people think I'm really a male in real life when I'm not. Too much assumption, even though I understand it. But from the looks of this poll there are plenty of real females gaming these days!:)

I'm a fem and play both genders. When I create my toon I always imagine some story behind my character and than make him/her: gentle orc blacksmith (male), tough and agile Bosmer bow-woman, vicious black Khajit assasin, Storm-mage... I think it's about 50/50 in total of my all games, however in ESO I have 3 males and 1 female - for no particular reason, they just came into my head :)

It depends on the game. This game appears to have a solid number of women playing, as does World of Warcraft. At the other end of the spectrum, we have EVE Online, which by the estimate of the game's publisher, has a population of over 95% male.

As for myself, I am a woman, and I will play male or female characters, depending on whatever I have in mind at the time of creation.

For the same reason I stick to various cultures of humans for the most part but really appreciate those that can give a decent portrayal of other species.

Now isn't the time for the debate. The difference is that we all know nobody here has dragon wings, but we are either male or female. Imagine a white person who declares "I am hereby transracially black."

I do hate the use of the word "Toon" it really sounds red neck.

Thanks for pointing out that I sexualize everything. It is good to know.

I think it's much more strange to go Mary Sue all the way. But that is me sexualizing stuff.
