Helping new Players "One Day at a Time"

Griffus
Griffus
Hello All,

My name is John, aka Griffus aka @‌JSumner
I will openly gladly answer any questions in game about any quests if i remember ill gladly help. If I don't ill point you in the right direction. I have a vet 10 and several toons im leveling up currently. This all said your welcome to contact me any time im online with questions. That way you have another outlet other than going back and forth w/ forums. :)

Secondly, I think one of the biggest things we can do to help "new", and 'old" players alike is combat the bots. Yes, "bots"
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=botting

The bots in this game are more prevalent than in any MMO i've seen to date. They are 90% of zone chat. and mail me 5+ times a day nearly. I think "Everyone" needs to make an effort to quell this issue. Get together with friends, and roam the lvl 1-15 Zones for starters looking for names that look like "awdfasdfasdfawer" or similar gobbledy ***. and report them. Have other people report them similarly. They are normally exploiting not only mob spawns for hides, but jute, iron, and herbs for auto re-spawn rates giving them over 250k an hour gold bombarding our markets resulting in ridiculous influx of gold into our market. Your average player w/o external influence will finish the game with around 100,000 gold. That is w/o ever selling to other players etc.

I can't really figure out what they are selling gold for, other than repairs, and the odd guild store purchase I don't buy squat, I guess if someone wants a horse and all purples at every level, then they buy from farmers. My biggest beef for gold is repairs, they seem to be a bit outrageous at times and very disproportional to money earned.

Don't underestimate the temptation to exploit or cheat or take short cuts in video games and elsewhere online. Someone kept sending money to those Nigerian princes. I suspect that many players new to the game/MMOs are particularly vulnerable to being conned or tempted into such transactions, even though they appear very sketchy.

Looked up the job description for "Paying MMO Subscriber" and no where did it indicate I have a responsibility to assist ZOS in administering their MMO platform. Sorry but I have better things to do than be an unpaid GM for ZOS.

Not to mention all the clowns that "report" completely innocent players because their zeal exceeds their common sense. This bot "problem" is fixable but the "fix" needs to come from ZOS not from the subscribers.

I agree completely with the sentiment. However for players like myself, I would enjoy being a GM, even unpaid.

I didn't say it said anywhere in your agreement that you have to. Nor does it say anywhere in your agreement that you have to be rude, crude, or unhelpful.
However, It seems your all three of these things. lol. I'm not saying report ppl for no reason its pretty easy in this game to notice 100s of bots with asdfasdfasdfwaeradf names. all farming Jute on auto respawn abusing their system. If you dont want to great but you dont have to be a rude. When you yourself reconginize theres an issue and decide not to take part in actions against it thats your choice. However, being rude to ppl making an attempt to make the world a better place is laughable.

No, you just say EVERYONE should .... last time I checked everyone includes me and on that basis I registered my unabashed objection to your "suggestion".

I'm sorry if you can't distinguish between someone disagreeing with your assertions by pointing out reality and "rude, crude or unhelpful".

Welcome to the Internet where most people have no reservations about expressing their dissenting viewpoints even if it hurts your feelings.

That's pretty much beside the point since the MMO world is already stuffed with players that are either unable or unwilling to make any effort to distinguish between a player going about perfectly legitimate farming and a bot and thus will report anybody that crosses their path while they're farming what they feel are "their resources" (aka any resource that shows up on their screen). Doesn't help clear up the "bot problem" and just wastes a whole lot of time for people that actually have to read and respond to "reports".

No back to our regularly scheduled program...

I see bot, I report bot, job done. I really don't see what you can expect to do by collectively gathering players together. If you report a bot, your job is done.... what else can you or anyone else do? Rhetorical btw.

This guy makes a fair point and just because he disagrees with you does not make his opinion TROLOLOL. I would take your very first paragraph and keep that, it's a great sentiment for helping other players... the rest however seems to want an all-out war on botting which is ridiculous, I am not gonna expand on that except to say the 2nd half of your original post is just ridiculous.

"Should" =/= "Shall". Everyone SHOULD floss their teeth on a regular basis. It doesn't mean that everyone is required to. Meanwhile, everyone SHALL follow the speed limit...means that there are penalties for not doing so. Should is a suggestion or request, not the imposition of a requirement.

... and everyone is not a suggestion, it includes/encompasses all players. Now let's stop being pedantic here.

ESO has some very heavy gold sinks early in the game, the 48K horse and the bag and bank upgrades are nice but will set you back 300K.

In WOW it was lite to spend gold on at lower levels unless you spent as a drunk sailor in the AH every level.
I think this get people to use the gold sellers.
Grinding just make you go in circles.

You mean because you have only a little gold but a lot to buy/upgrade at low levels it encourages people to use gold sellers?!? I never thought about it like that :(

My apologize. I simply stated that id gladly help people, and suggested that we all take an initative to see a bot tag a bot. I didn't really mean for you to "band together and wipe out the infestation" just that ppl take a active effort to tag bots when they see them.
The contradition i see between what i said and the other fellow said was simply that he states "terms of agreement" state i don't have too. Which yes is a valid point, but its really not helpful to post when suggesting helpful measures to change our would of ESO for the better is it? Its like saying sitting on your hands to give yourself a stranger is an alternative to the real thing. Yes, its an alternative, but ill take my wife over that any day lol.
In short why post a response thats simply "I wont do *** cause i don't have to". Thats why i saw him as a Troll.
