people aren't stupid. They can spot when a game has been shoved out the door months before it was ready. They can spot a game where bugs identified months before in beta were left unaddressed because the numbers on someone's quarterly balance sheet wouldn't add up unless it was launched ready or not.

And people can certainly spot ill-conceived, unfinished and just plain stupid design decisions that have left us paying to play a bot infested beta product.

Yet despite all that I think it's a fine game. I'm angry because this game will not survive as a premium sub on brainless fan-boys with more money than sense like me.

Someone, somewhere decided to try and draw on an inside straight by releasing a game in no fit state for release and then compound it with providing little or no customer support.

i'm as big a fan of this game and the Elder Scrolls as there is but that doesn't blind me to the chain of crap decisions that has left what should be a premium game with years in front of it a bot-infested mess that appears hell-bent on driving people away.

Why do people that have complaints with ESO get continuously accused of being 'WoW-wanters'? In most cases that's not even a valid riposte.
your brain dead wow died years ago its a giant titanic if anything they have higher standards from playing a game that set the bar.

    Good point, well made.

This whole gaming business needs a kick in the butt. To much money being earned by people who've been living off selling unfinished products for way to long.

Funny thing is that most of the fanboys seem to take it for granted. They don't give a crap as long as there's lube around.

Personally, I'm enjoying the game immensely. Both, when I'm out playing solo with the occasional, random tandem-run through a delve or on a boss with someone who just happens to be there at the same time, or when paired up with my best friend. It functions, for me, as both a solid RPG and a good MMO. Not perfect, mind you, because of the hybrid nature of the design choices, but really good either way.

Sure, there are things I'd like to see. Amor preview, a more coherent guild-store search system, the erstwhile 'questionaire' that would have seperated out people by play-style and such... but most of these are minor issues. Overall, I feel the game offers a solid ES experience, one that I'm thoroughly enjoying.

Bugs are getting fixed at a fair clip, new content is coming, Craglorn immediately and more world guilds, Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood, etc, soon. Not had a problem with customer service on my end, thank goodness.

To be perfectly honest, people who troll the forums with cries of F2P and 'wow-clone' are just that, trolls. They're joy-devouring pests, nit-picking, soulless beasts here to, and I quote Jayne Cobb, damage my calm.

There are legitimate issues to be resolved, sure. But if the game is 'unplayable' because you can't color your amor then that, sir/ma'am, is your issue, and a fairly large one, at that.

It may not be "bad" per-se, but it's just....boring. I unsubscribed yesterday after a week of not even playing. There are too many irritating things about the game that far outweigh the good things. It killed me to unsubscribe because I've followed the game from the beginning and have championed all things ESO, but this is not what I was hoping for. Far from it.

I still play.. and still love the game.

But... when the last beta was ran, and they said the game would come out in a couple of weeks. I have to admit.

My eyebrows did reach the top of my forehead.

At first when I saw the bad sales my first thought was that someone would pull the plug on the game, same as what happend to TSW. In TSW as far as I know the zone promissed for fall 2012 has not yet been released, that's becaus they have some 20 devs left on all 3 Funcom games.

I'm happy to see Zenimax postponed the x-box/ps version of the game, not so happy about the lie for why(network issue a month before release? common...) When you look at all the people they hire now it seems like Zenimax is still all in and want to try and relaunch the game.

What worries me is the complete lack of imagination in certain areas of the game, and the rather failed execution of some important systems. I always give devs the benefit of the doubt, but when excatly what the players predict happens I'm not impressed.

I'm looking forward to Craglorn but considering I still haven't seen any loot, and so far the VR dungeon loot has been pretty dull, so why should the loot suddenly become much better in Craglorn? We'll see I guess.

Wait.... I wonder if this will be like FF14... it was such a flop... they pulled the game of the shelves and then released FF14 A Realm Reborn like... 5 years later lol. Wait, it was like 8 years later.

I don't feel it is. I love it. But man is there some hate around the net over this.

Personally I think a lot of the hate comes from the top down approach that Zenimax is doing. That may be natural in the US, but here in Europe we're far more egealitarian, so the top down approach is more offending to us.

I remeber in 2005 when WoW was launched in EU, there was some communication with devs on forums, and the fact that devs played in some guilds did give them some credit. Then when you find references to Everquest exploits and even ADOM references you know that the designers really have played rpgs before.

Over at Funcom it's also much more open devs talk with players on forums, twitter, PM's, and test forums taking feedback and improving the game on player feedback.

Take the guild store system, the official reason was that the guild stores would prevent gold sellers to controll the entire mega server, and prevent players from too much competetion etc. The problem was when the game launched and we called the bluff. Item duping for weeks, bots running all over the place, and probably worst of all... there was no economy to protect with the guild stores.

For one, I do enjoy the game. Bug, as others have said, can be fixed. One thing I can't agree on though, is what one guy said about bots.

' I cant remember an mmo having to deal with the bot problems this game has, bots hacking the game flying all over the place at supersonic speeds, farming mats underground'

I can remember. It might be a newer generation of scripts, but first time I saw underground, teleporting bots was ffxiv arr. They appeared close to end of the last year, and if any game was infested with bots, that one was. Guess what? You can hardly ever see a bot now days. RMTs show their ugly head every now and then, but very fast they just vanish.

Give it time. The game, at least if you ask me, is amazing. How long I'll enjoy it is another question, but somehow I think there always will be something to do, somewhere to go. Enough with the hate. So it's been released too early. So you hate the design. If you are that unhappy, unsubscribe.

leveling experience was incredibly boring by mmo standards, loading screen bugs are pretty frustrating to deal with all the time, passives and skills that simply dont work kills the carrot on the stick when youre trying to level a class/weapon line to unlock something and when you finally get it the thing doesnt even work. i enjoy the game at vr10 and the skill system they have in place is awesome, being able to respec on the fly at any time was a really good idea, and the crafting system is well thought out and a fun way to keep yourself geared.

but man the bugs are piling up to a ridiculous amount, last night zoned into a dungeon was greeted by invisible mobs chunking me to death. and now today logged in then took a wayshrine and now im completely locked out of accessing that character, 10 min loading screen into alt+f4 over and over. im starting to wonder why even bother.

If you think ZOS is "on top of forum posts," then I'm sorry that you're standards are so low. The developers don't even post here.

And a single Reddit AMA that was half-fluff almost a month ago doesn't mean that they can ignore dozens of pressing topics.

No, It's not a bad game, but it is a fairly run-of-the-mill one. I do think it's good enough to exist as a F2P game alongside the likes of Rift, Aion and Tera, which is where I see ESO being in less than 12 months.

I've cancelled my sub. It's not that I hate this game, or think it's particularly bad, I just don't think it's anywhere near good enough to justify a monthly sub. It's average, it's mundane and it very much is 'just another mmo'. There are already a fair amount of F2P mmorpg's out there of a very similar quality level to ESO.

im absolutely loving the game. its actually the best game ive ever played, and that includes "elite" on the bbc model B !! :P

obviously everyone has their own reasons for complaining, but i just find it really wierd to read so many bad reviews. some people seem to want the world on a stick. !!

anyway what i really want is to read about other people's (positive) experiences in the game, not why its terrible because there is no armour dye. (lol)

Hah! I recall playing Elite on my ZX Spectrum. That was a while back.

If they relaunch this close to the initial launch, it's going to include a f2p option - and sadly, it will have to. I don't like F2P at all, but it does do one thing and that is keep bots away, since the publishers can always undercut them through the store. Botting managers know this and won't bother quite as much as they do now.

    Talk about small favours, though.

Opinions are subjective, just like flavors. Don't hate me because I don't like strawberry and you like vanilla. I don't hate you. I am enjoying this game because it is different. I like the fact there is no central AH, and you can belong to five guilds. I played WoW from beta till last year. I was so sick of it. In between I played all the other MMOs that came out. This one reminds me of one of my favorites DAoC. So the next time one of you people who can only see the bad in what you are doing, ask yourself why you are trying to force someone else into eating strawberry flavor when you can just walk away. Or maybe describe something in a constructive way instead of a whine...wah I don't like it change it for ME type way.

Part of the problem I think is that the developers expected folks to want their game to be fun and interesting, but didn't expect or provide sufficiently for those who treat it as either a business environment or a sabotage opportunity. Possibly naive, but more likely regular folks preferring to think well of other people. A genesis of cynicism.

Yes, this is what I think too. Naive but nice is how they come across.
I love the game, finding few intrinsic faults, but the botting and hacking are making me reconsider if I wish to renew when my sub runs out.

Don't get discouraged, I feel like you do....but maybe that is what the botters/gold sellers want. Maybe they are the ones behind all these we have to have a AH threads...wait takes off tinfoil hat. Sorry, hang on I am hoping they get a handle on these leeches.
