AI is a long way from being able to govern a town. But it has made huge strides in graphic design, which would be my guess where most of the layoffs occurred.

Maybe it's just me, but when I see people saying that this means the end of the game, or speculating whether it means the end of the game, or that the game is going into maintenance mode, and then saying we should stop funding the game any more, it makes me think of "Oh, no, the boat has sprung a leak! Quick, grab a shotgun and blow more holes in it so it sinks faster!" Now, I'm sure someone will criticize my analogy, but I'm just saying that that's what comes to mind when I see what a lot of people are saying.
Personally, I'm going to keep funding the game as long as I keep playing it-- and I intend to keep playing it until I die or the servers get shut down, whichever comes first. I mean, I enjoy the game too much to stop playing it just because I'm not sure what tomorrow may bring.

What has changed is the tools allow individuals to accomplish a lot more work than they used to, so you don't need as many people now to develop the graphics and general content. With the advent of AI, basically every person's home can be transformed into a gaming studio. Why is a company - especially one mostly interested in making as much money as possible - going to pay for infrastructure costs when they can instead hire creators at home who are willing to pour their heart and soul into their projects at a fraction of the costs?
