The Night Market Ends: Lacklustre Rewards

I did a lot in the NM, all of it in fact. I amassed over 30,000 faction favour (20,000+ of which was useless), by helping friends, friends of friends, and complete strangers.

I only have two things left to do there in the future. Get 10,000 favour for the other two factions. So what incentive do I have to go beyond that and spend every day there, helping strangers, populating the instance?

Whatever that incentive is it certainly isn't the reward crate I just got. Not even some gold. Really?!

I wish they scaled these to personal contribution and not that of your faction - especially since they had the scorecards visible so many players joined the "popular" one upon sight, not to mention the utility of the sets being attractive to more people for Eyes.

Yeah, that’s why people have been saying all along that it doesn’t matter at all that the Thousand Eyes is winning by a landslide. The rewards aren’t worth much.

Maybe when we see the new stuff they'll add the next time it comes around we'll know the answer to that. They'll have to actually at least preview the next Night Market first though.

A good example of why these rewards should be tied to individual contribution.

Seems odd for someone who spent a lot of time to get lesser rewards than someone who just grabbed the house and left.

I agree that someone who just got the home and left shouldn't get the same reward that someone spent all 6 weeks in NM and had 20,000+ points. Maybe 2 tiers. 2 different rewards.
Under 10K favors and over 10K favors
Could even do a 3rd tier for over 20K favors.
Being in the popular most populated faction didnt really get more than the 2nd or 3rd place. Actually got a lot less.
    Got gold monster set
3rd place got a monster set (That can easily be golded with mats) AND sold millions in the Potion fragments and recipe fragments.

I just feel they need to look at the rewards at the end to make people want to go back in there.

Also, Chests had little gold and a overland gear piece. after a couple weeks, everyone had all the overland gear pieces so kinda pointless to even open chests after a couple weeks

I did like the trial gear in quest rewards and the random Gold gear.

I got helm and shoulders, some banners, and 3500 gold. I was on my level 16 new alt when I got the mail, so I just opened it on him. I am now rocking a monster set at level 16 which is kind of fun.

    Night Market end-of-event reward…

a headpiece and shoulder piece from your faction’s monster set, plus 1,500 gold.
    Are you guys serious?!
Is that what you consider a great reward for supporting our factions for weeks on end?

I also don’t need to point out how lousy the conversion rate from tome points to gold is at the end of this season: x10.
I would have expected at least a 100x multiplier to actually allow new players who had the courage to complete the challenges every week to afford resources or other items to improve their gaming experience. But also a currency other than gold—personally, this gold is useless to me; what do you expect me to do with it? You can’t buy anything with gold in the various shops.

As for the next Night Market, I’m not even considering participating. As for the challenges, if I’m going to earn in three months less than what I make in my trading guild in a single day, I’ll do the bare minimum to unlock my choices on the various pages, and that’s it.
I’m disappointed that I wasted my time participating.

As someone who only did the intro quest on both accounts to get the House, I have to agree that I don't think it's fair I got the same rewards as someone who actually spent time participating and working towards earning Favor.

    I mean…

We’ve known these were the rewards for months. It was on PTS. It was in the content creator preview posts. Everyone was saying the whole time that the scores were meaningless since the rewards would be a helm/shoulder and some banners.

    Are people really surprised?

And even then, with the scores being 100% a popularity contest with basically no way to influence the winner, why should the rewards be better? Especially if we all see the scores before we pick?

Besides, every time we’ve had ‘server-wide contests,’ they’re always set up so everyone wind in the end. It never matters if you grind to insanity or dip in once and bounce. Again, why bother no-lifeing when it’s just for a little cherry on top anyway?

This reward mail was never the goal for me, and I’m filing it in the same place I file trial leaderboard mails. I played until I got the thing I actually needed (the dye), and then I was done with Night Market.

I don't think the faction competition was a motivator or cool factor or good use of the UI space.

I think it's fine that favor caps out and doesn't have rewards for being endlessly farmed. The gold daily boxes gave good rewards and kept me going for a while.

I liked the Night Market rewards until I earned what I needed. Then playing the Night Market became optional and I did it only when I wanted to or to help someone. For the duration of the event, that was a good balance for me.

I really don't understand why you should complain.
Don't you like the final reward? Does it seem like too little?
Well, know that the real reward was the fun you had during the entire time NM was active.
I spent countless hours in NM and had fun. I received 99% of the available achievements. This was my reward.
I don't see why I should complain about three free things received in one mail.

We've known since March exactly what the rewards would be.

A few things that are worth pointing out:
    • The rewards that actually matter are the rewards that you picked up along the way. I was doing two daily gold boxes every single day of the event. I got countless motifs, furnishing plans, mats, etc. And that reward is directly scaled to effort.
    • The competition aspect of Night Market was poorly thought-out. We've known since PTS that it's nothing more than a popularity contest. Faction with the most people wins, just like what happened on PTS. There is nothing that you as a player can do about it. So it's good that these rewards are inconsequential, so that people aren't screwed over by picking the "wrong faction".

Honestly, I think the final end-of-event rewards are just fine. It means that the lion's share of rewards are what you earned along the way--as it should be. It means that it didn't really matter which faction "won" the Night Market--as it should be.

For real for real 😅 I listed what I got because someone asked what to expect but I'm content with the reward because the incidental rewards (house, furnishings, statue leads, gold stacks) were worth it. (Obligatory "for me" disclaimer)

I think the actual "competition" is just supposed to be a fun quirk of the NM, and was not actually supposed to be taken seriously. I mean player groups were not faction locked either, unlike Cyrodiil where team choice actually mattered. Which is why the rewards are so abysmal and pretty much the same no matter what rank your faction was at the end. They didn't want anyone feeling bad about losing, with an "everyone's a winner!" attitude. The real rewards were everything you earned while taking part in the night market. If you did barely nothing, you just the mail in reward, while the people who played the night market consistently got recipes and treasures to sell for gold, new furnishings, ect.

I totally agree that the final rewards seem a bit messed up.

Many of my guildies worked really hard to get themselves able to enter the trial, purposely to get the Monster head piece.

I did literally nothing and got it anyway, that is a bit unfair in my book. :(

I was actually very happy to get a cool house, interesting style pages, and heavy thousand eyes helm from the trial. I liked the event rewards although I haven’t logged in to see what I got from the event ending. But, based on what players are saying it does seem kind of stingy. I feel like they could throw in some transmutes and other things to fatten that up a little.

If you want to collect all three weights, you'll need to run the trial three times. With this mail, however, you'll only need to run it twice (it's curated). Given how difficult it can be to organize the trial, I think it was important for the head piece to be just a little more accessible.

To be fair, we all got a free house, the option to unlock dyes and styles, as well as collect new Helms and shoulders.

That said, much of that stuff wqs front loaded, or periodic.

The end rewards... if all you did was the intro quest to unlock the house and join a faction you got the same as someone that grinded out 50k favor...

Honestly, I think front loading the house, while nice for many, was a mistake. To me it would have made more sense to unlock your factions dye color for joining, and rhe house after reaching 10k favor.

I also think that the event end rewards should have included all 3 Helms and shoulders. As well as a scalable rewards box based on contribution.

Edit: also, is it am not complaining about what I got, It.is what it is and i am happy that I got it, and grateful to those rhat helped me get it. The goal here is to offer feedback for the hope of better rewards moving forward.
The issue is that if the rewards are not ramped up, future iterations of the nightmarket wont see enough participants to have content completed.

I haven't been in game yet today so I don't know what I got.

But I just wanted to say that I joined the Thousand Eyes on Day 1, based solely upon looking at the monster gear sets for each faction and picking the one I thought looked like something I might use. I wasn't aware of how each faction was doing before I joined. I did see constantly-changing numbers in the upper right corner of my screen while going through the starting quest before joining a faction, but I didn't realize what they represented at the time, and I'd already decided on a faction before ever visiting the Night Market.

Frankly, I'd be okay with the leaderboard being totally hidden until the end of the campaign.

I didn't even notice I'd gotten the reward box. I assume it came as system mail, but I didn't see it because I always get 5 hireling mail and a bunch of guild store sale (or expired item) notifications when I log in so I use the button to claim all the attachments and delete it all in one go.

I checked 2 other characters (who had played the night market) before finding it in my crafter's inventory.

This is pretty much my thinking. We knew from the start what the reward would be and, more importantly, that individual players had absolutely no control over which faction won so it's probably better the rewards aren't worth worrying about.

If you spent loads of time in the Night Market the main reward was either the stuff you got from individual activities and achievements or that you had fun doing it. This is just a bonus.

I actually got some pretty rare furnishing plans and motifs out of the coffers. The gold boxes were so good and worth doing even after I had my 10k favor but they weren't so good I had FOMO if I missed some. I thought the rewards were great.
