How to get colorful name in Hodor Reflex addon without donating to them?

I support the developers but they require a wooping 5 million gold to submit a ticket to them to change the colors of your name in their Hodor Reflex addon. And this should be possible just by addin or modifying some of the add-on files. Anyone have any idea on how one can achieve that?

Yes, but it will cost you 5 million gold?!

Seriously though. Most people who have spent the time to learn the Lua end up using it to write addons, whether they are for public use or private use.

Those that are public are free, but it is still someone else's work. And addon writers won't mess with someone else's addon without either the writers consent, or if there isn't anything functional wrong with the addon that the writer isn't addressing.

Yeah, I am a system architect I also have a few addons posted but never charge people for anything on them. a 5 million gold donation is not a donation. It's a payment for a service and this in terms violates ZOS terms of use for addons. You cannot charge people for addon functionality. This is not the app store or google play!

You would need to donate. Sure, you could go in and change the code for you if you want to see your name be a different color… but if you want it to show up as colored for everyone else, then… well… it’d have to be part of the official addon.

I can't remember which files to modify, but just wanted to give you a heads up and say you're the only one who will see it and you'll have to maintain it yourself and do it every time the addon updates.

All you need is just to convince all the players who use the addon to patch their installed files with your patch-file. Ezpz

You could modify it, but that modification would only be on your local files, so no one else would see it. But, you can submit a PR request to have it added for free.

The payment is for the additional work and knowledge involved in adding the name and colours, not additional functionality. That is fine with ZOS, afaik, because you are not paying for the add-on, you are paying for a service, and it's gold not cash anyway.

If you read the LibCustomNames description you would see that you can submit a PR or do the donation. Some colors on your name is hardly TOS-breaking payment for addon functionality.

As people have pointed out, if you read the documentation, you would've seen that you can add it yourself for free if you create a pull request, -OR- you can pay gold to have someone else take the time to do it for you.

(There's also the third option that I take, which is "do neither because I find LCI/LCN to be distracting and don't even install them in the first place".)

nope just a lot of post are about add-ons or comes down to how a add-on does it better , i just happen to believe a developer should have more control over their game title and not let everything be ran by outside developers that boradline the ToS in just about every way possible
and when you say whine do you mean point out the ways they boardline breaking ToS and drive players away from playing the game ???

Right, like the last addon you non-stop spammed the forums about to the point where zos issued an official statement that the addon was not, in fact, breaking the ToS?

no add-on can out right break a ToS that allows for it be justified by others .. but by ToS anything that affects the out-come of scored content is in violation but zos has say what to do about it rather it be back it or scrap it and they choose to back it tho without that backing they'd be in violation of ToS since your wanting to bring up my other 4 ( hardly spamming with 4/23 post made with in 11 months ) and whys it take an player to spam something to get an official answer in the official forums ???

But I still think that 5 000 000 gold donation is too much for a pull request. I still donated though just to support the dev
