I used my last re-roll on weekly challenges to get rid of capture an IC district and I got: Discover 5 Lorebooks (to be done 6 times, for a total of 30) ... So @ZOS, how do I discover 30 lorebooks when I have a full Shalidor's Library/Eidetic Memory (Barring 5 bugged books)?

Does it actually require discovery or can you just read a lorebook like with the endeavors?

I've tried a book from a bookshelf, tried notes in open world, books in open world, and even checked to see if I could find a Shalidor's book (but they despawn after you read them once), none of them register.

Dang. They really need to change that. I guess you'll just have to save it for next week and reroll. But I'm glad you brought attention to this. I hope they change it to read instead of discover

Annoying but not game-breaking. Just miffed I used my last re-roll to ditch a task I couldn't be bothered with for one I can't complete. Lol

Do you have any alts? If so, just make them go and read those new books by the stables.

To forestall the obvious question: you have a full roster of 10 characters and all 10 of them (20 if you bought extra slots) have full Eidetic memory?

Nope. I have 1 character, have only interest in having one character, and shouldn't need an alt to do anything.

(For some added context. For achievements, I levelled every other class to 50, deleted it, and then proceeded to write an addon, so as to put my character name on the achievement rather than leave it blank. OCD is a harsh mistress but there are ways around her lol)

Some books (and things like posted notices and quest-related writings) don't count if it's not the first time reading them, but many do. I've done this task several times by visiting a library type house in Home Tours and browsing bookshelves until I find something that registers. Then I can spam the same book(s) over and over until I complete the task.

Hmmm ... I wonder if it has to be a Shalidor's book, in which case I'll pop to my library and see if that works. (I have a library with nearly every readable lorebook in the game, still missing a few from IA though).

Edit: Confirmed, it has to be a Shalidor's Library book, so you can read any that you buy from Mage vendors. Thanks, much appreciated!

That might be the case. I haven't investigated enough to know what the pattern is, mostly because I don't remember which books are part of that collection or not. :D

Re edit: Rad, good to know how it works.

Any one that every needs a library, look up my user name on Home Tours. Shalidor's shelves start to the left of the door.

The lore books challenge counts any readable material found on any character you haven't read that particular book/page on yet. It can be anything, from random bookshelves in mages guilds to motifs and even jewelry surveys. It MUST be on a character that hasn't read that specific piece of writing yet though, that's the kicker.

Really easy way is to create a new "sacrifice" character, go to mages guilds or to a house with tons of those books, delete character, repeat next time the challenge comes up.

Yes, several. See this discussion: [PC/NA] Public Library - Tharnes And Noble
And this: Library with all readable furnishings (except Tamriel Together contest) community service project

(There are probably others, but that's two to start with.)

The reports above state that rereading Shalidor’s books counts, so there’s clearly an inconsistency here between EM/non-Shalidor (which must apparently be unseen on that character) and Shalidor (which can be reread).

The whole challenge seems quite oddly programmed and definitely doesn’t have text that matches this behavior.

It doesn't have to be a book that character has never read before, but you can't use the Shalidor's Library or Edetic Memory menus either - you have to find an interactable bookshelf or book in the world or in a player house.

I've done it (both the endeavour and the tome version) by going to my main house and reading books I've placed there, so it definitely doesn't need to be new books you've never read before.

I think (but I'm not sure) it needs to be 5 different books, but you could find a spot with 5 books and then re-read them for the additional completions.

I'd have assumed that someone with enough OCD and dedication to write an addon to change which character got an achievement would have done the tome by now and it's just a matter of earning some pocket change at the end of the season (oh well... and of course OCD demanding that this week's chores are being done now, and not rerolled next week, right?)

I did that when I first got this challenge, and it didn't work for me. I read several books from interactable bookcases (that my character had already read) and none of them counted. Maybe they've fixed it since then. I think it was the first week the tome was released.

It does have to be a book the character hasn't read before.

Fortunately, I had just begun Solstice so there were plenty to find. (I suppose I could have played my alts if I had to.) I understand how it could be frustrating for someone who has already done all the content.

Night Market was a good distraction, otherwise I'd have been doing IC distrct captures. Lol

Ok, so you found it acceptable to create a new character to get achievements and delete them when you were done.

Would you not find it acceptable to create a new character, skip the tutorial, go straight to your library house to read the books, and delete them right afterwards? After all, they're not even getting achievements then so you don't even need to deal with the achievements having the wrong name.

As for "I shouldn't need an alt to do anything," that is kind of the same idea as "I shouldn't need other people in my MMO." ZOS has made those acheivements specifically because alts are the point of them.
So yes, ZOS directly wants people to have alts.

I use Map pins addon. Make a new char they have all the books highlighted. My main had gotten them a long time ago, but the new char had all of them to go. I've had that challenge three times once two at same time. It was easy.

No, it wouldn't be acceptable. I'm not about to discuss personal medical information on an internet forum, but suffice to say that doing those achievements caused me significant problems. The trade-off made is that those problems were temporary in nature versus the permanent nature of not doing them at all.

And? ZOS wanting people to have alts, and being able to do everything without an alt are not mutually exclusive.
