Please don't Auto-Pin Golden Pursuit and Tome activities

Auto-pinning of act ivies is annoying, aggravating and rage-inducing. Giving players the option to "pin" Golden Pursuits or Tome challenges is fine, but don't auto-pin them. Moreover, please fix the bug that exists with the Tomes that prevents players from un-pinning Tome activities.

Edited to add: Tome challenges can be un-pinned using a key that is bound for that purpose.

"Play how you want" includes not forcing players to have to look at GP and Tome activities that are pinned.

I agree.

I like that we have the option to pin them. I don't like that they automatically pin themselves on all my characters and then have to be manually disabled only to keep coming back when the objectives update.

I've got an addon to stop it, but it really should be base game functionality.

I agree that auto-pinning is annoying and I myself use addons to disable this behavior.

But I believe that the main purpose of auto-pinning is to make stuff more discoverable. Otherwise people might not notice that there's an ongoing GP campaign.

Anyway, "it would be nice if there was an option for this" often turns into "there's an addon for that".

Some of us really don't like running add-ons or want to run a minimum of add-ons. "Features" that affect all players automatically really need to be carefully considered and reserved for only essential elements of the game. Pinning is neither essential nor particularly beneficial to most players. There are already too many alerts for Golden Pursuits and Tomes as is. Many of us would also like to see the Tome announcements go away. Let players collect GP rewards and Tome points when it's convenient, not immediately as it happens with similarly annoying alerts requiring action often in the middle of combat.

On the flip side, is there an addon that allows us to have MORE pins? Or is that not possible? Guild Wars 2 has spoiled me in that fashion of keeping track of things I'm actively working on all at once.

There's a big difference between addons with tens of thousands of lines of code that do lots of complicated things, and smaller, trivial addons.

The addon that stops the auto-pinning of pursuits has literally just one single line of code. It has absolutely zero impact or footprint. The addon to auto-claim tome points and the addon to auto-claim golden pursuits are similarly tiny and simple (though not quite single-line tiny) also with virtually zero impact and footprint. You could have hundreds of simple trivial addons like these and still have less footprint than a single "big" addon like Harvest Map.

Understandably, the vast majority of users of addons are not inspecting what each addon actually does, so most users mentally assign the same weight to each and get concerned when there are "too many" addons, but in reality the "weights" of each addon can vary from a feather to a brick.

Plus, technically the whole of the UI (and more) is an addon.

This too. At one point I was trying to do a tome achievement and a golden pursuit with overlapping but not identical requirements (I can't remember what exactly) and I was surprised to find I couldn't pin both of them.

I assume it's because tomes are using the same function, so the game thinks they're the same (like how the Night Market tracker shows as Endless Archive score in addons), but it would also be nice to be able to track multiple tome achievements or golden pursuits when I am working on them.
