[Before you create new console addons - Please read]

Hello fellow developers for console addons,

please take your time to read this to make console addon development a fair-play. Thank you!

What you should not do:
1. Spy, copy addon code (even if modified) or ideas (intelectual property) from PC addons without providing proper credit clearly visible at your console addon description at the Bethesda website
2. Develop the same exisitng PC addon for consoles without asking the author of the PC addon first if that is okay or he/she plans to do that themselves. Especially do not use the same or similar names and release that under your name then! Be fair and communicate in advance. You find us all at https://www.esoui.com and https://app.gitter.im/#/room/#esoui_esoui:gitter.im
3. Release any of our PC addons or libraries on console with the same name, just so you can test them.
If you want to do that talk to us first (see point 2).
If you cannot reach out, make sure that released libs/addons do ONLY load for yourself by adding something like
if GetDisplayName() ~= "@YourAccountName" then return end
to the top of the lib's/addon's files
Make sure to remove the upload later again once your tests were done. If you find a way to make them compatible with consoles talk to the original dev so he/she can release it, and provide proper credit to you (or you release it with his/her permissions).

Thank you for following that, be fair, repsect intelectual property and if we say no, this means no! Do not (try to) circumvent it!

AddOns and libraries of consoles are monitored and reported to bethesda if we find any stolen intelectual property without further descripiton, where you detail that it was taken elsewher and you got the ok.
If you do not communicate in advance, do not complain in the end.
This will also harm the community, especially for the users who just want to use the addons and do not understand why we have to remove them again...

If we find any renamed code or files of our own addons, where we did not provide an okay to upload them (and if we do that we got technical and other reasons you should respect; we do not do that cuz we are lazy or want to harm or brake the console addons... We got experience since 2014 and know what we do, while you just started to get into the topic ;) ) these will be removed by Bethesda either way.

Thank you for your understanding, communication always wins, so use it.

Seeing this was posted just one day prior to the removal of a key addon library and violation of intelectual property gets mentioned...is this in any way related to the current situation?

I did wonder why some addons say "only for me". I think this explains at least part of that.

I want the "lock picking" coloring added. I guess I should reach out to that addon author to see if it can be copied to the PS5!

That hasn't been my intention, apologies if it came across this way. The timing just seemed so very coincidental that I was just looking for clarification. Thank you for clearing it up :)

    Very ironic if unrelated.

Maybe at a minimum it tipped off the guy who ended up doing a copyright strike.

I saw the thread title and thought that he was going to say something like, "Please, by the Eight, learn to program and don't crutch on AI because the code that you get from that is ***."

'Cuz, TBH, that's the bigger problem that I see right now.

I'm not sure why it should have triggered him/her/* at all.
The one doing that was just hunting to break all kind of addons, else there wuld have been chosen other libraries and not the central important ones for console settings and such. For me this points to a person who wanted to harm all of you and us, by fun or for whatever reasons. Most likely it was even an already known person, doing similar to other console addon devs before, but who knows.

Simply sad it happens, and is so easy. Hope karma will hit one day o:)

:D true, another point on top.
While there are many resources on www.esoui.com and their wiki that helps to get started many console (and even PC addons) nowadays just look like totally AI written nonsense...

But we all started once so I didn't want to complain about the code itsself. I can only ask these devs (or well, usually they are no devs then but normal users calling themselves developers all of sudden ;) ) to read more about how esoui sources work, and fix their code -> lerning by doing!
If you think AI wil lprovide you 100% you are wrong, like said above so please improve that code, communicate with us and ask what you do not understand, so you learn and do not need that AI in the end anymore (or you can at least ask it to provide better, working, performant and code that does not break other addons or vanilla code).

Some big companies use copyright strikes on YouTube all the time even when they are not appropriate.

Companies (including ZOS) need to realize the DCMA is not a requirement to be stupid. Require more evidence of such a claim, not just the claim.

If they leave it up and the claim is valid they opening themselves to statutory claims as they can be seen as complicit in the contributory infringement.

What actually needs to happen is large fines for false claims to deter it.

Please stop the talks about that stuff here now, the topic wasn't about that, and I do not want that Zos removes it because you start to argue on any of their "blacklisted" topics ;-) Thanks for your understanding.
