Elden Root Wayshrine costing gold? *Solved - addon coflict**

Anybody else experience this, this morning? I tried from Elden Root Wayshrine to Wayshrines inside Grahtwood and Outside of Grahtwood. It costs money as if I am not at a Wayshrine. The rest of Tamriel seems fine though.

Ok, I started disabling addons (I'm on PC-EU) one by one. Votan's Minimap was part of the cause. Not sure why seeing as it is only supposed to be displaying the minimap. It's quite a useful addon though and the problem seems to be only Elden Root wayshrine (Filthy Bosmer and their green taxes :D ) I'll post in the ESOUI comments section of the addon and just give that Wayshrine a skip if I'm feeling poor :)

Update, Votan's minimap has no effect if it is on stand-alone, so one of my other addons is conflicting with it. Time for more elimination :)

I saw you mentioning it in guild chat, well I was in Elden Root a while ago and it didn't charge me gold using the shrine to travel to a different shrine-

I don't know if this is relevant, but sometimes I go to a wayshrine with the intention of using it, but before I actually use it I go to the map (M) instead because I want to look for something, or I'll go to the journal (J) to pick a quest and then view it on the map to see where it is, and then since I'm standing at a wayshrine and am looking at a map display I'll forget that I'm looking at the map instead of using the wayshrine and I'll click on a wayshrine I want to travel to. When it pops up with the cost I'll usually realize what happened and abort so I can use the wayshrine, but if I'm not paying attention I might accept the cost before it dawns on me what I just did.

Something else I’ve noticed is that, when I hit a wayshrine at full gallop on a mount and press ‘A’ to dismount and activate the wayshrine (as I would when galloping at a door), I end up still mounted and on top of the wayshrine (the little column with the blue flame inside the wayshrine structure). In those situations, despite being in the wayshrine map, it tries to charge me to travel to another wayshrine, as if I’m not actually at a wayshrine.

I’m glad my autocorrect has learned the word ‘wayshrine’.

This. If the OP is on computer it could be a possible PEBKAC issue

Haha, no, I meant in the spirit of whether they broke the Green Pact, not that they were high

Its too easy to initiate recall instead of travel. I'd make any recall within 10 meters or so of a wayshrine a free travel but it likely is too high quality of life for a medieval warehouse management simulator.

Haha, nope. Although all the possibilities presented were amusing, I went back and tried it twice more. Pressing "e" to interact with the wayshrine. Not J for Journal or M for map. P.s. no "shrooms" or happy weed consumed in the process either :D

P.s. all my addons are up to date but I'm going to disable them today and see if it's still an issue for me.

Sometimes you activate a wayshrine (not only in Grahtwood) and then due to lag / dismounting / something else your map closes and immediately opens (without any player interaction at all). This new map is not a wayshrine map, but common map, so you are charged gold when selecting destination.
The Three Storm Sharks, episode 8 released on january the 8th.
One mer to rule them all,
    one mer to find them,
One mer to bring them all
and in the darkness bind them.

Thanks for that. It explains my experience.

Ah ok, it's a combination of Bandit's UI and Votan's together causing it.

I don't use any addons, so the addons explanation doesn't fit my cases. Not that I doubt that explanation; as I had stated in my post, "I don't know if this is relevant." It's good that the OP investigated to figure out what's happening in their case, since it should help other players who use those addons.

It just happened to me again early this morning-- or I should say, I just did it to myself again. There are two things that give it away. One is the prompt asking if I want to accept the gold cost, which I tend to acknowledge out of habit before it dawns on me that I just messed up again. The second is the recall animation where the blue mist appears in front of me and I start to tap out a pattern of stars.

The worst part of it is, as soon as I see that and suddenly realize what I just did, I tend to reflexively roll-dodge to interrupt the recall process so I can use the wayshrine correctly-- and I suspect the gold was deducted from my balance when I reflexively accepted the prompt about the cost, which means I just wasted that gold. I haven't tested to see whether the gold is already deducted, or if interrupting the recall stops it from being deducted, but ZOS really should wait until the recall is complete to deduct the cost, given that your recall can be interrupted by getting the slightest jostle from a passing NPC or attacking mob.

ZOS really ought to think about coming up with some way to handle this as a QOL enhancement, because it goes against logic that players would run up to a wayshrine but then deliberately use the map to recall to a different wayshrine at a cost of gold instead of using the wayshrine that they just ran up to. I mean, I often run up to a wayshrine but then decide to use its map to recall to a house rather than choosing another wayshrine, but that doesn't cost any gold, plus I'm using the wayshrine's map so there would be no cost if I did choose another wayshrine. Using the normal map to recall to a wayshrine at gold cost while standing at a wayshrine should be an obvious mistake on the player's part, which the game should be able to detect.

If I'm in combat (like rode over a skeever half min ago), I have to interact with wayshrine several times before i get a travel instead of recall.

2026 and this was driving me crazy trying to figure out why it only happened when I went to Grahtwood and it was only happening on one certain character. I had tried disabling other addons but never thought of this combination being the culprit. Sure enough, it was Bandits UI + Votan's Minimap. I disabled Votan's minimap and just went with the one in Bandit's. No more green tax on wayshrine usage from Grahtwood! Glad I found this thread to fix it!
