I’m so so disappointed and so is everyone I talk too, there is one change that’s really difficult for me — and clearly many others — to accept: the new Dragonknight Spikes (or not) animation.

The original spikes weren’t just a visual effect; they were a core part of the Dragonknight’s identity. Full-body, outward-facing, aggressive spikes that instantly communicated power and intimidation. This animation has existed for over a decade, appearing in trailers, previews, and promotional material, and it’s something many of us have played with and grown attached to for years.

The new version feels more like a small spiked shell or backpack rather than a transformation, and it breaks the established class fantasy and lore that Dragonknight players have loved for so long.

To be clear, this isn’t about the gameplay(skill) changes — those are fine great in fact . Many of us have played Dragonknights for 14 years across betas, launches, and expansions. These characters aren’t just builds — they’re identities we’ve grown attached to.

I respectfully ask that the original spike animation be restored, or at least offered as an option, while keeping the updated skill effects intact. Dragonknight spikes are synonymous with the class, and changing them this drastically takes away something fundamental.

    I disagree. I personally loved the new spikes. I thought it was one of the ugliest skills of the original DK.

    I like the new spikes. Hated the old look and looked so out of place especially on characters that would aren't going for that kind of theme

    Man spikes on a dk are a staple you can’t take that away from the surely all of the previews the trailers it’s how they should be

    Why do they need to be on your back? Just throw them on your arms and legs or something if they’re going to be that small.

    i like the new spikes and animation but the sound effect is a bit of a downgrade. new one isnt bad but the old one was pretty iconic.

    Honestly I was pleasantly surprised by the new DK animations.

    I hope when the templar rework comes around, the same care is taken with the jabs animation (the magic shovel has to go).

    A lot of them are beautiful however the spikes are a huge pain point for me. Staple for how dragonknights are for allot of us dk mains this is taking away something extremely iconic for us all

    I fr hope you get your skill changed for the class to feel as beautiful to you as the old spikes and iconic dragon knight image is to a huge majority of us in here

    Thank you so much That animation has been core to DK identity, lore, and trailers since the beginning of ESO. Many of us aren’t asking for gameplay changes to the skill that change is fantastic — just for the original, iconic spike visuals to be restored (or offered as an option)

    The animation for casting the new spikes i quite like but its the turtle shell appearance at the base of the spikes that totally ruin it for me

    @ZOS_JessicaFolsom I'm experiencing a lot of visual glitches with the skills (such as wings appearing floating in the air on the side of the characters body instead of coming out of their back) Most of the skills are working, but anything involving the characters body is doing very strange things. I can provide screenshots in a moment. I'm wondering if it's something particular to me, or if anyone else is seeing this, since the spike issue looks a bit more like a glitch than something intentional.
