Housing should "do more"

It would be nice if you could do more with housing (even its just in one defined house) than just being there as an end in itself..
But i dont know what...maybe we can collect some ideas, maybe that other games have...

One idea could be gardening to get alchemy ingredients or husbandry to get leather and meat..

Play tales of tribute or duel against the guests or...?

I just like to have more reasons to visit my house...

Sleeping in your own bed could grant an XP boost or another temporary buff. This idea comes from the single-player games and has been suggested many times. I’d love to see it implemented.

The idea of being able to plant and harvest certain alchemy/cooking ingredients is cool. Extending that idea let us fish in the houses that come with a stream/pond etc.
Anything like that would be great, just to add a little more utility to the housing, like you say.

For those of us in the "housing community" the design, building and furnishing of houses is an end in itself, an artistic and creative outlet within the beautiful settings of the various houses.

We all realise that this is a fairly niche aspect, only really for the true endgame housing enthusiasts ... but to start with you could always invest some time in decorating a house with a specific theme? Perhaps choose a style of furniture you like, or a function (such as a gaming room as you mentioned above), create water features or a combat arena etc etc?

That said, the aforementioned housing community have long asked for additions such as harvestable plants, fishing in lakes/rivers, sleeping in beds (perhaps even with a small boost in stamina as a result of spending a few seconds sleeping well in your own cozy bed.

Sadly most of the things asked for by dedicated housing folks are never realised. We still don't even have basic weapons/armour furnishings. The more voices raised the better!

These suggestions came up from all kinds of people since housing was implemented; there were threads about this in the main forum all the time. The ability to use beds (and maybe gain a little xp buff for it) was one that came up very often, as well as having harvestable plants for alchemy. So it's not just the exclusive endgame housing community that asked for these functions, but many more people. Still, ZOS hasn't reacted on it yet.

Also, I don't have the impression that OP wants to become part of a bigger more specialized community with visitors and competitions. Some people just want to use their house to roleplay with it a bit themselves, or with a few friends at most.

I just think that a lot of the housing systems potential is not used
I stopped buying houses a long time ago because I am not someone of the housing community who just wants to have houses to decorate them - i need to have a reason to go there, do something but would love that to be the case, to HAVE a reason...and I think if they expanded on what you can do with houses they would sell a lot more of them to people outside the housing community...

ESO housing is very static. It's like walking around inside a painting. Some enjoy that. I prefer more action.

A person over in the game systems sub-forum (which they should follow through on and get rid of in favor of the old dedicated sub-forums) suggested the ability to use our houses to create our own mini dungeons.

Then an off the wall idea - they could sell us (or give us) npc house guests that we could check daily to see if they have some simple "golden pursuit style" quest for solo or duo play. Randomly, have to check every day, offered every week or so. Give us a reason to visit the house. Maybe with a whole new currency to accumulate for various rewards! Who wouldn't love that? (probably everyone)

While I appreciate the love players have for housing, they have so much work to do in repairing the game itself outside of housing that I’d be pretty sad if they took development time to work on anything with housing. They unfortunately work pretty slowly when it comes to most things, and that’s not necessarily the devs fault, but more higher up people causing problems. Because of that, if they devoted time to housing, the rest of the game, which is doing poorly currently, would suffer. That’s my two cents :/

I'm pretty sure that's not how it works. The team that works on the houses, isn't the same people who do "repairs" to the game, unless the repairs are to said houses. It's not a "robbing Peter to pay Paul" kind of thing.

This is a great idea! Each of my characters has their own house and that is where they always log off. I'd love if we could officially set their homes and receive some buffs for sleeping there.

I know we can port to our other houses but it would be nice to have a doorway or a portal inside we could use to connect our houses. Either our own or with friends or guild members.

Or miniature versions of our homes or favourites we could use as furnishings, kind of like the Clockwork City model. May be combine the two so the house model furnishing was also a way to port there.

There are lots of lists with housing requests, some very long and many years old. From furnishings to features, hundreds of things have been requested over the years with no feedback from the devs.

I spend a lot of time in ESO using the housing system. I sunk lots of crowns in it: houses, bundles, crown-only furnishings.

My wish is to have more functionality to housing. Like a wayshrine, teleports for shortcuts or to build up, teleports to other houses, grappling hooks or void anomalies (Blackreach), and so on.

I would like to at least double the amount of NPCs inside a house, make the NPCs use the environment or objects, or have schedules. Have a bard NPC, customize NPCs clothing in the house etc.

Increase the limit of the smaller houses, or add upgrades, for example buy more slots for a specific house.

Last but not least, there are tons of furnishings requested over the years. Structural elements from older styles, roof tiles, windows, doors, weapon racks, armor dummies, planters, pools of water, weapons, clutter etc.

I would be happy if the devs would stop releasing houses for a year, and instead work on these topics.

I'd like repair kits for broken structures, or a way to remove them. I've used walls and columns to repair small defects in some houses, but this tower in the new Julianos house is so big and so broken I hesitate to tackle such a big job. Plus it would use a lot of my slots.

I agree. Pariah's Pinnacle was one of my first houses. The wind swept, snow covered, broken steps, just scream "slip and fall hazard" ending in a broken neck. Not to mention the busted columns throughout. I managed to "repair" many of the permanent columns with the matching furnishing, but there is no hope for the stairs.

Or the house in Arteaum that has permanent piles of rubble and broken columns that can't be removed. Or Erstwhile Sanctuary with the room full of randomly arranged pillars and the permanent stained glass window that can't be turned off with the time of day furnishing.

My first repair was on my very first house, Serenity Falls Estate. I was able to repair a broken column by covering it with a matching one, but the broken one is still lying there on the steps. I'd love to be able to remove this.

Think of this like Subclassing. You can't just tell people not to ruin their characters with Subclassing when they're trying to be competitive in PvE and PvP.

Instead of ruining our characters for a tactical advantage, this suggestion is asking us to ruin our houses — using up valuable furnishing slots — for passive buffs.

Of course, you could just not Subclass or put these furnishings in your home, but then you'd have to live with being at a major disadvantage.

Oh c'mon.. it's nowhere near the same thing. Don't want to "ruin" your prize home build? Don't. Put them in one of a bajillion other inn rooms if you wish. Want the buffs? Just change your primary for the duration.

I would like to see something like twice as much Undaunted xp if you have an undaunted trophy in your house, twice the mage guild xp if you have a lorebook in your house, twice the fighter's guild xp if you have a weapon hanging in your house, twice the fishing ability if you have a fish hanging on a wall, etc. That might actually make housing more than free wayshrines for me.

An analogy would be changing into a different Armory build depending on whether I want to play how I want (no Subclassing; primary house without trash items) or to play how I have to (with Subclassing; secondary house with trash items). It only takes a second to switch between these.... but should I have to?

I don't mind features that give items or services, such as Assistants, crafting stations, and mundus stones. Those are fantastic ways to encourage players to fill up their homes — they offer convenient access to functionality found in other parts of the game.

They could have traders at some of the bigger homes. Anyone, including the homeowner, who visits can buy or sell from that trader. This could allow players without a trading guild, to visit multiple homes to list items for sale. A fee would be applied that would go towards 'renting the space from the player' and be given to the homeowner.

I really like this idea. We have guild traders in the overland zones that we bid on, as well as guild traders in the Cyrodiil keeps that we claim, but having traders in player homes would encourage players to use the Home Tours feature to discover new traders.
