Cyrodiil: A Battlefield… but No Buried Secrets?

I’ve pondered this for quite some time, fellow adventurers… How is it that in a land as vast, war-torn, and steeped in ancient history as Cyrodiil, there is not a single relic left to scry?

The very heart of Tamriel—cradle of Empires, battlefield of countless ages—yet somehow holds no hidden antiquities, no lost tomes, no buried echoes of power waiting to be unearthed by the keen-eyed Psijic seeker.

You would think that among the ruins, the blood-soaked fields, the shattered keeps, something wondrous would lie hidden. Some epic relic of the Remans, some secret of the Ayleids, some forgotten prize to draw treasure-hunters into the chaos of war.

But instead… nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Why has Cyrodiil—of all places—been left without a single scryable treasure? Is it oversight, or is there lore behind this silence?

PvE content shouldn't be located in Cyrodiil at all. That zone should be solely about fighting other players in the Alliance War.

Oh, but there is PvE content in Cyrodiil,... so why leave something so epic and amazing out 🤔

Why not? You would, after all, be conveniently digging the grave of the losing combatant(s)....

I would love if they added antiquities to Cyrodiil. It makes sense that there would be many buried artifacts all over the zone.

That's a very very very very empty map.

"Lost Imperial Notes" for "War Torte" :D You can farm it :D (Joking, does not worth it. I managed to find 5 or 6 notes, each sold for ~2M, but I have spent ~2 days/note - not very profitable timewise)

And tbh, I would agree with comments I saw before about PvE part of Cyrodill - this should be moved completely to PvE version of Cyrodiil to help with performance, so server would not be bothered calculating NPCs, materials, etc, and then more PvE content could be added to this campaign (probably?).

I don't think it would be, and this is why. I've run around Cyrodiil on one of my characters and found every lorebook, and every skyshard, and completed every dolmen, and every delve, and dug up treasure maps and can count on one hand how many times I even ran into an enemy player.

Thats because you can get the book, skyshard, etc without losing your buffs for a minute plus while you scry on another screen. This is a big fat NOPE

There is a difference though. While scrying or digging you cannot see what is around you, so it would simply be an unfair situation.

If I rarely saw an enemy player doing those other things why would there all of a sudden be more enemies out looking to gank those digging up leads? And how would they know where to look? Cyrodiil is a big place.

Maybe they could make it so the player is hidden while excavating. But whether they do or not it's the players choice whether to take the chance or not. I am willing to take that chance.

Probably something to do with the Dark Souls non-paused game state when you're in the Excavation menu.

Perhaps it could work if you retained the Stealth state if you began an excavation while Stealthed?

This lack of antiquities in Cyrodiil is indeed inconsistent, but I don't think this system could ever work there anyway. Of course, you can scry safely at the base, but the digging part is out in the wild, and PvP might happen. I already see the avalanche of posts demanding PvE Cyro because players are sick and tired of digging their own graves while looking for a nice piece of furniture. And in an event that Cyro suddenly becomes populated and with increased caps, the possibility of being attacked at a digging site would be even higher.

Most PvErs can't even stand the idea of going in to a PvP zone for an event that revolves entirely around PvP. What makes you think any of them would want to do it for something completely unrelated?

Besides, the population cap is minuscule already and the people in that zone are there because they want to engage in PvP. It would be a poor choice to force them to wait in queue even longer because someone else is there doing an activity in a zone they'd likely rather not while not engaging with the core feature of that zone at the same time.

EDIT: And to anticipate the suggestion that people go to an empty campagin - why? If it's empty then there is no 'danger' element and thus it becomes just another PvE quest in PvE zone.

There are treasure chests in Cyrodiil. One of these drops a lead for a painting called The Heartland. So if a player wants that painting they have to go to Cyrodiil to get the lead.

    How is this any different?

I would like this, though some parts of the map are difficult to get to depending on alliance control. I still haven't gotten all the skyshards. As for vulnerability, they could give you that protective aura you get when you first enter an area of Imperial City while you are scrying or digging.

there are leads that can be picked up in those places. you just don't dig them up there, thank goodness. and no, it would not be hard for someone to map out the digsites and camp those areas. but also, the chances would probably be low because they would have to be around to catch someone digging. which isn't likely to happen outside of them putting new leads there that would be dug up

There are treasure maps in Cyrodiil. Players can't see what is going on around them when unlocking these, so how is that different from excavating?

You do not have to scry for it there.

And while we are at, why not put the leads for such antiquities into coffers from PvP ToT matches. That will make this inconvenient for even more people.

They already put leads into ToT games. They may not be PvP games but I'd much rather go excavate in Cyrodiil than play the 60+ games of ToT it took me find one lead for a music box.
