Exactly... yes, it's an opinion whether you would turn them on or leave them off personally, but having the option at all is factually and very plainly well-supported by beneficial elements, while having no option for them clearly inhibits multiplayer functionality (no guild tags/representation, no names to call out to follow in-game or look for a target for organized pvp as readily, general socialization and feeling like you aren't in a room full of NPC's, and finally name recognition of people you play near a lot). Having the option allows for all of this, and still leaves people who dislike the aesthetic absolutely fine because they can leave them off just like overhead healthbars.-First-Wave Closed Beta Tester of the Psijic Order, aka the 0.016 percent.

Of you would always think your side's opinion is superior and the other side's is inferior. I am not actually taking sides here. I am calling for a compromise. What is wrong with the compromise proposed? How would letting someone opt out of having a name plate on your screen effect you in any way? How does letting you have the name plates of those that want theirs shown effect them?
Both sides can not argue that the compromise shown would effect each other in any really way. Those against it can hide their name plate and those of other players, and those for it can have name plates. In fact for the people who want name plates it would help you find people like minded easier, because you will be able to see their name plate.1 -

The client already knows the names, it gets the name along with all the other information the server sends when a character comes into range where the client needs to render them .. or do you imagine the client queries the name from the server when you focus the character and the NAMEPLATE appears?
It doesn't, the client already knows it! There is NO SERVER LOAD here.

Your point is?Sadly the 'immersionists' whined nameplates broke their 'immersion' so ZOS decided not to even offer the OPTION.
Of course those same immersionists are now among those screaming about bots .. with the huge irony that the lack of nameplates makes reporting them a LOT more tedious so many players don't bother.
Lack of nameplates is not the biggest problem when it comes to bots. I´m sure you are aware of that.
It's a statement of the patently obvious that the current system of having to focus a character to get their nameplate so you can report them is a PITA and often impossible: try reporting a bot train, most of the time the nameplate doesnt' show even if you're right behind them until they pause, and clearly fast-moving bots are impossible to target.
Given the OPTION of displaying nameplates is a ZERO IMPACT feature which won't impact anyone who turns them off then arguing against is it simply fatuous in the face of the obvious huge benefit they'd give in the war against bots.

On the other hand, when I say I want name plates so I can tell which one of my dps is standing in the red circles without having to mouse over them or I want to be able to tell which person in that crowd of 50 people is the merchant without having to mouse over and check everyone there, those are actual reasons, yeah I guess a person could argue against it but atleast its an actual issue that effects me and not a made up one that doesn't actually exist.
And this stupid opting out idea, im not really against it but why? give me one reason why anyone would want to hide their name plate from other people. You nannies care way too much about what other people are doing.2 -

✭Allowing opting out would just be annoying to others who have them on so they can see who's who, and since you can focus on the person anyway and find their identity, it makes no real functional sense.
I'd like to see nameplates, with the following options:
On/Off
Name Only
Name and Guild (2 lines)
They should be colored based on their relation to you in the following order of precedence:
in your group: green
In your guild: blue (but it would be nice to have each of your 5 guilds have a different color option)
No relation: yellow

Nameplates break immersion? Nothing breaks immersion quite like running around with an invisible groupmate...oh sorry, I meant a floating white arrow where your groupmate should be.1

Moonclaw✭✭✭Please add Guild nameplates as an option. I always use this as a way to identify which guilds are active in my timezone and what they seem to be doing - hence if a good potential match for me . I am sure others are used to doing same - so yes please - add this as a UI option1 -

If you are in a group and you want everyone to have name plates then tell them to turn them on if they don't have them on. If they refuse kick them. Why should you take away an option for some one else, because you are being lazy. As for finding the merchant/banker that is easy look for the one person that says "E" to interact with. Why is an idea to opt out stupid? Again you trying to pass an opinion off as fact. Maybe some one wants to turn off their name plate to Role Play with some friends or something. Maybe I want to go into Cyrodil and gank people without them being able to know who I am. I answered your question how about you give me a good reason why people shouldn't be allowed to opt out? Considering how many would probably never use it not sure it would be good to add yet another line in settings. Unless they implement a truly "anonymous" option where you can't focus on someone and see their name, it would be useless in any practical sense other than making it take a bit longer to identify someone. ✭✭✭I am all for more options that give players the ability to play the way they want. As long as I can turn off the things I don't want to see (such as chat bubbles), I can't think of any reason others shouldn't have the option to turn them on. It's not ruining my immersion if I can't see them.

ESO dev team is too lazy for this kind of stuff lols.
They leave the details to the addons , if an addon cant do it , then it isnt their problem , they wont move or change it either and they will break said addons at any chance they get also :P.
Funny part is , without some of these addons many would probably quit the game , because it is lacking so many basic features without them."Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity."
