You have access from several points if you place the chests in the your other houses or just place them temporarily.
It's still the same chest no matter where you put it.
Um, yes, that's the point of this topic!?
...to access the contents of the house storage from any house.
No, what you want is access through other people's chests, not just your own. Too many problems could arise from it. That is the point.

Would you say a bug could inadvertently allow the visitor to access the homeowner's bank instead if there is a banker in the house?

Bankers work one way and storage chests another. You want storage chests to be like bankers. Bankers are located throughout Tamriel, storage chests are specific to houses.
My house is my house. I don’t want others bringing in their stuff. I don’t even have bankers or merchants out in my houses.
There is absolutely no reason why you should be able to access something that is in your house while in mine.

...I give up on you guys...these aren't real physical chests and they don't behave like them...why don't you understand?

katanagirl1 wrote: »Guild houses aren’t a special type of house as far as housing goes. They are just a player house that allows other people to do crafting and parse against training dummies. Players who have “guild houses” invite others to use their houses for various purposes as a guild. In both cases, the player who owns the house has invested a lot of gold and crowns into the furnishings there, especially if they have full crafting tables. The amount of actual interaction with the objects in the house (I think) is meant to be minimal.
Let me summarize.
pros
- Functionality: The chests would also serve a purpose for visitors
- Practical: You could now also store your belongings in guild houses and when visiting friends
- Time savings: No more multiple porting to your own home and the guild house
cons
- Security concerns: A bug could grant access to the homeowner's chests.
- Privacy: No one should tamper with my chests!
- Immersion: Why should someone have access to the contents of my chests?
Are the pros justified?
- Functionality: meh, who needs a purpose!
- Practical: Why should you sort and store something on a visit?
- Time savings: This 20 sec max. you should have, right.
Are the cons justified?
- Security concerns: Is there a scenario in which a bug makes it possible to access the contents of other players' dedicated chests at all? > A programmer would have to answer that.
- Privacy: You can set privacy via the permissions in the house menu. (No access, Restricted, etc.)
- Immersion: Well... just don't use it and don't think about the possibility that others might?

For me its gear that is need to improve or really good drops that save me on transmutes.
Stuff on storage boxes cant accidentally be deconstructed if I forget to lock the items.

But why do these things need to be accessed in another player's house?

Really? Still don't get it? Guild House. Houses that where chosen from guild members to be a house for the purpose of a guild.

Where you share that example?katanagirl1 wrote: »I do like the idea of just removing all chests to prevent any potential problems, so that is what I would do. How helpful would that be for you? Then it would not be worth the devs time to implement.
You can remove all the chests from your houses if that makes you feel better, no problem.
It's not about your house.
You're not the center of the universe.
There are other houses of players in the guild that have been chosen as guild houses and decorated for this purpose.
