Why I like Veteran Ranks.

ok I know alot of people dislike VR, but I have to say this...I love the idea, I just feel zen needs to give a few more options to rank up.

I played WoW, and frankly, hitting "cap" and waiting a couple years for an expansion to progress any further is rather....lame.... and between expansions only progressing your char through gear, equally lame..... ESO has presented the veteran ranks and I adore the idea, but I understand the frustration alot of players experience, being as they don't like questing....even though thats kinda the core of an RPG.

But zen, you guys need to consider alternate ways of letting people gain those veteran ranks. I don't mean dailies, I don't mean marathon dungeons....but perhaps something else, perhaps throw us a few megachains to do.

Now this is not a suggestion but an example

I am going to pull something out of my ass, so please don't complain about lore, or if its already done in game etc.

Perhaps finding and gathering all the shards of wuuthrad scattered through the world bringing them all together, and reforging the axe, the end result is 1 veteran rank.

then add a number of other similar epic quests or trials to do that simply reward the veteran rank as opposed to grinding exp.

I dont mind vet ranks in that I get to experience the other sides without rolling an alt.

I dont like that there seems nothing to go for though, I mean you get a new rank but nothing for it, no points, no choices to make with new attributes etc, it feels so unfinished.

Could also do with a story being added to it like the main quest, or perhaps a new guild or two could start there. Something to work towards each ding for.

I am not saying exp shouldn't be a way to rank up, but have us do something heroic, maybe not even make it a standard quest, like in my "collect wuuthrad shards" example, don't make it a quest, just let us find them, make it a hidden gem for the players to find, perhaps tie it to the daedric artifacts like mehunes razor.

I have not reached vet rank yet, casual player, but all I hear people complaining about is that its just a massive experience grind, I think something like this would help, when we achieve something of true value have it rank us up. I am sure the zenimax team could come up with a couple dozen heroic deeds to pepper the world with that would be worthy of a vet rank.

Talk during beta was about how the Thieves Guild and the Dark Brotherhood will be added to the game some (undetermined) time after launch. I expect them to bring their very own, and very epic quest lines. DB quests were the very best in Oblivion.

Would be quite fitting to add them as Vet content.

I agree OP. The veteran ranks and doing the other factions content is a good idea, not a bad one. The only problem with veteran ranks right now is that people feel like questing is their only option to level and it's a slow, boring option for some.
Please LOL my comments. I'm an aspiring comedian.

Well said, and that is the complaints I am hearing. So why not throw up zen a few ideas. surely something will stick. does anyone know if PVP participation will play a role in Vranking? and what about the new zone they are working on?

From the previews, Craglorn is intended for groups of 4 (landscape) to 12 (trials) VR10 players. The VR cap is raised to 12 and obtainable by playing content in Craglorn .

My money is on the bet that people will complain regardless, because of the "forced grouping", in addition to the "forced questing" of other areas. Alas, I've got yet to hear the complaint about "forced playing"; that would be a new one, indeed.

I like the V ranks now. At first I admit it was a bit of shock to get with the program and basically be starting all over again, albeit doing the quest of the other factions.
I still don't quite grasp the fact that I just saved the world and now I am running errands for low people. Eh, no biggie though, its fun to see the new quest.
The real fun is in the challenge. Even the mudcraps are V rank. The mobs make for some fun in what worked out great in the leveling of 1-50 is usually not the best idea now.
I do however wish we were getting some sort of new skill lines, and yes, the lack of character points leaves you stuck with what you came into the zones with, but if you made it through the challenges to get here, you should be pretty well balanced out anyway.

Sounds similar to FFXIV - just please, no relic weapons. That leads to speed runs, etc. (don't get me started on that). I dunno, I still like the slower leveling for a change. I would think it would go much too fast by giving a rank. Then, of course, the complaints would roll in anyway. You really can't win with MMOs, always gonna be complainers. I say leave it as is, maybe add more phased areas/dungeons to help with some leveling a little, or make it less boring for some. As it is now I don't mind it.

I am ok with Vet ranks myself, but also agree there needs to be some variety/options thrown into vet ranks. Example, anyone should be able to go from Vet1-10 doing nothing but PvP. PvP is the game for many players. No more attribute points I think is a mistake, I like getting stronger. Turn vet rank 1, go into the easiest vet dungeon to find out the bosses are rank 5, I think is a mistake. Overall I like the vet ranks, just think it could use some tuning
