Console Players: What effect have addons had on you?

I’m finding out the downside to addons now, I hardly find a chest or heavy sack anymore. They are just too easy for others to find now.<snip>
I had 5 or 6 thieves troves that no one else on PS/NA ever found.* They were in place 95% of the time I checked. Before add-ons. Now they're always gone. What used to be an easy endeavor is now much harder. OTOH, now I'm finding a bunch I never knew existed.

I don't regret it, though. The up-sides are much greater than this one minor annoyance.

*Ironically, they were never in place pre-addons on PS/EU! LOL

    Overall, I like them.

I enjoy Votan's minimap with the circular addition. Especially a fan of Murf's Skyshards and Murf's Lorebooks. I was missing, in general, one or two of each on most maps so it's been nice bouncing around and finally cleaning up those collections. The Harvest Map is also nice for spotting random chest, heavy sack, and thieves trove spawn locations out in the wild and I like how customizable it is.

I have not installed Lazy Writ Crafter yet because several folks have had some really strange bugs/crashes happen that seem related to it, so I'm waiting for that to be refined/fixed first.

There's a Market Trader add-on that I'm noticing directly influencing trader listing prices, where folks are blindly putting things up for whatever the "market price" says it is for the item. This is leading to some things being rather underpriced or overpriced compared to how our market has been before, which was my main question and concern when it came to add-ons coming to console. But that is something we'll simply have to adapt to, these pricing changes, because that will be the new norm as more and more install them. The overall average seems to not have shifted a whole bunch, so that's encouraging.

I will never not be grateful to the amazing hero who made a Guild Store Time Sort add-on to fix ZOS's egregious mistake of removing "sort by listing date" from consoles. That add-on gives it back to us. I can actually enjoy shopping traders again.

My only complaint so far is that - for whatever mysterious reasons - despite all my add-ons playing together nicely before, now every time I log off, they all decide to uninstall themselves. Not disable, full-on uninstall. For every play session, I literally have to go into the store, find each one I like using, and reinstall them all again. Incredibly tiresome. And happening to a few people. I am not sure if that's an add-on issue or a bug issue ZOS would handle, to be honest.

[snip] I mean, one of the Day 1 addons I saw was "automatic mount training", which skips the dialogue/menu that appears when you talk to a stablemaster to just auto-train whatever stat you set it to when you talk to one. As in, the menu that has three (3) options and which takes probably about a single second to open, select an option, and back out of, lol.

The majority of the addons so far seem to touch on areas of the game I don't interact with very much, like dedicated trading ones and the crafting writs, which, again, just seems kind of unnecessary to me when we already have an option to only show quest targets while in a crafting station. Maybe there'll be ones I'd actually like to use in the future, but as of now, I have not interacted with them that much.

Well, I might as well chime in on this given you've mentioned two of my addons.

Lazy horse training: sure, it doesn't save much time. But that time adds up, and it was also a very small and simple add-on to create. Probably took me 1-2 hours. So even just for myself, I've likely come out about even over 15+ toons. Given it shouldn't take most users more than a few minutes to download and setup, it still saves quite a bit of time for other people.

For lazy Writ crafter, it was originally created when there was no 'quests only' option. It saved enormous amounts of time at that point. But it also gradually gained a whole host of other time saving features as well, such that even with the quest only pin, it's still going to save you quite a lot of time, especially for people doing writs on 18 toons, 7 days a week. (Also, I like to think that the existence of writ crafter helped prompt ZOS to add the quest only pin  )

So many console players do not visit the forums, so I am waiting in evil glee for next April Fool's Day to see how much the server melts down when they look at their daily writs. LOL

Addons improved quality of life for me tremendoulsy. To the point I do activities I otherwise avoided. This includes skyshard hunting, using treasure maps, doing writs more frequently and so much more. Even the timesavers ultimately make me play ESO more and not less. Because it's more fun to do certain things with reduced pain of chore character to it.

So despite occasional hiccups, bugs or even the infamous cannot save bug, I am very happy that addons were added on consoles and cannot wait to see more coming.

Thanks to everyone working on addons and making them available on consoles. You guys out there are champs!

This is fixed for the base game on PTS, as well.
I can't find this on the PTS patch notes. I swear I saw it, but I've been looking so I could quote it in a different thread, and am not having any luck.

Oh yeah absolutely, Lazy Writ Crafter must have been basically a necessity for PC players before our current QoL updates.

I have tried the mount training one, now, and found the benefits for me personally to be negligible, saving about a second or two per training. I dig the ability to have character-specific settings for it, though, so kudos for that.
