No, I do not play either one
My only experience with it is grouping up with a couple of players who were werewolves and nightblades, they just completely ignored their class abilities in favor of werewolf. It did not make a good impression on me.

What's wrong with abandoning Nightblade skills in favor of using Werewolf skills?

Well I wasn’t going to get into details, but because you asked -

It’s fine when playing solo, but when you are trying to run a group dungeon with only three players total and you ignore your class skills it is hindering your effectiveness. Werewolf is not a class, it can be used to supplement your class, I haven’t played it but I know there are limitations as to how often you can transform.

Also, I use Riften as my crafting hub, not because I love the zone chat scenery, and seeing so many players asking for bites for werewolf and vampire, it seems most players use it as a crutch so they don’t have to bother with class builds. Again, fine for solo and overland which is probably what most of them do.

Yes, I still play a vampire
I have a lot of vampire characters, which I am mostly attached to for roleplaying reasons. However my personal favourite is my DK argonian vampire who's theme is Blood and Fire. I use blood mist for the spell/weapon damage + the healing along side lots of fire skills. It's not meta but it is satisfying. I do however use skin recoloers to hide the vampirism. As someone else mentions I don't understand why the vampirism also mutes body and face paint colouring, l'd embrace the paleness if I could also have cool body paint but the vampirism just mutes it all.

As a side note I don't understand, physically, how vampirism makes fur and scales white. On a Khajiit I feel like it should turn their skin white, but their skin is covered with fur which retains its colour. And even though I understand why it's a gameplay decision to just have vampirism make every race sickly pale.. it just feels wierd on an argonian.

No. TOS is largely an 'evil' game. Tons of evil bad guys of course, but necromancers, werewolves, vampires and a lot more.

I play a summoner; he can't summon things like elementals, just 'Daedra' demons.

Just for the record, despite all of the complaining from Werewolf players that Werewolf is bad, it is able to do decently well in some content. With the right rotation, a Werewolf player can hit 100k+ on the trial dummy, which is more than enough for group dungeons. Though, I do understand the concern if your group only has 3 out of 4 players.

The thing is, Werewolf doesn't supplement your Class the way Vampire supplements your Class. You can use any ability at any time with Vampire, so unless you want to roleplay with a bar full of Vampire skills, you'll be better off using abilities from other skill lines. By contrast, Werewolf does not allow you to use non-Werewolf skills while transformed. This makes Werewolf a completely different playstyle from your Class, rather than a supplement to your Class. You can maintain 100% uptime in Werewolf form, which is even easier with other transformed werewolves in your group; essentially, Werewolf is like a subclass to your main Class, since it uses a few passive abilities from your Class.

Class builds are fine, but they're not the only way to play this game. Most builds that don't use Class abilities are not meta. However, due to the nature of Werewolf skills being mutually exclusive from non-Werewolf skills, there exists a meta for Werewolf that does not use Class skills. Naturally the Werewolf meta isn't as good as the metas for non-Werewolf builds. The day that Werewolf loses its mutually exclusive skills is the day that build diversity and identity for Werewolf dies, the way Subclassing has made Pureclass builds lose their individual metas.

And one final paragraph. In my experience, I don't often see players using Werewolf for casual overland play. The Ultimate costs an insane amount to bother with it during questing. I do, however, know several guilds on PC-NA who use Werewolf in PvP runs of Cyrodiil and the Imperial City. I don't see many werewolves doing higher end PvE content, though. I'm sure there are some people who use Werewolf for a range of content, but the reason we don't see more is likely due to the lack of interest in playing something tedious and non-meta.

Both are severely gimped playstyles currently and have been very ignored for quite some time. Part of it has to do with PvP balance obviously.

Not getting my hopes up, but i'd love it if they could just have skills say "do X to monsters" or something and balance it that way versus just blanket nerfs, buffs, etc.

Werewolf and vampire is such a cool fantasy element in elder scrolls games. It's sad they've been so ignored.

Even in experienced hands, werewolf is severely gimped relative to nightblade or any class for that matter. They underperform QUITE a bit unfortunately, which I'm sure you know given your extreme interest in them. Werewolf would be dope, but everyone knows it's pretty bad relative to other builds, so it's kinda a bummer depending on content I guess? Not sure.

    Yes, I still play both
    I play both still.

Werewolves need no explanation, it's just plain fun. We've even run dungeons and trials with all wolves, can't get better than that.

As for my Vampires, I'm lazy, so my vamp toons stay in stage 4. I'm not doing vet content, so it still fills my needs.
A lot of the passives are great, although right now, it feels the cons vastly outweigh the pros.

I just find it inconvenient that I'm forced to 'role play' with vendors who won't talk to me.
It's extremely annoying that I have to break my build to add on the mesmerize skill everytime I want to talk to a vendor.
Zombies, Minotaurs, people with Daedric pets, these are fine? A vampiric healer with skins and outfits that hide all traces of vampirism, that's the problem?

My only other pain point is that there are no 'Bleed' skills in the Vampire skill line.
It would be great if at least some of the vamp skills were 'bleed' attacks with high chance of hemorrhaging status.

You're telling me that a skill named Eviscerate/BLOOD FOR BLOOD/Arterial Burst does not do Bleed damage?
Blood Mist? No bleed damage? really?

I was trying to create a vampire skill only build and was eyeing the 'Blooddrinker' set, only to realize it does nothing on a vamp since they don't have bleed attacks. :|

I have played them and would like to play them again, but they are both outdated and too rigid. They need an update to bring them up to the power level of newer systems. Some old limitations and drawbacks that make no sense need to be removed. More customization needs to be added.

At the moment they aren't great for combat scenarios (when compared to other stuff) and they aren't that great for RP either (everybody looks the same, the appearances don't work well with many races, also mess with equipped customization options).

I answered “Yes, Vampire” because while it’s true, it’s not the whole picture.

I have exactly one Vampire character: my Khajiit “Stamblade”. However, he does not do anything even resembling real content, even normal dungeons. He is strictly a Thief/Assassin RP toon.

Darloc Brae, Night Terror, Mother’s Embrace, Stage 1 Vampirism. I only use the Vampire for the bonuses to sneak, and to bite Guildmates that need one.

I never played any of them. I don't like that type of class change linked to a change of appearance (same in all games).

Beside, am a slow learner. Once I manage something well enough, I lazily and comfortably stick to it. o:)

I have both available on a couple characters, but I don't use them. Mainly just kept them to bit guild mates if asked.
