I found this image from the original game.
    NmfY3Hv.jpg
People who have played Oblivion thief guild quest know how insane this image is.

For the one who don't know or remember, Lex is the guy to the left and during the Thief guild quest he tried to capture the grey fox or the guildmaster who is the center one., You previously got Lex sent to Anvil to get him out of the way. lady to right is the countess of Anvil
But the wild thing is that the grey for just reviled his identity to the countess and Lex just walked in to talk about mudcrabs.

Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

I won't be touching this. If they'd fixed the clunky mechanics and left the graphics alone I might have been interested.

I particularly dislike what they've done to the NPC's faces. They're all unrecognisable and some of them are just plain deformed.

They left the bad bits alone and wiped away the good bits.

So to be clear, you feel the odd graphics and character designs are the good bits of a game that’s nearly two decades old?

Feelings of nostalgia are an important factor for me in deciding whether to revisit this old game or not. With all those familiar faces eliminated from the remaster there would be no possibility of me getting any good feelings from meeting with old acquaintances, quite the opposite.

Entirely fair. After all, nothing ages quite as gracefully as memory.

Strange how the rough edges we once tolerated now shine brightest when polished by enough time.

I bought the original on Steam several years ago, I wanted to like it and get into it, but it was virtually unplayable.

This remaster is so much better, and I can actually play the game!

I recreated my female Bosmer from ESO, and I've been focusing on doing the Mage's Guild recommendations right now, along with several other side quests. I've barely even touched the main story!

So far, it's been cool running around the cities and towns that are represented in ESO and seeing all of the similarities and differences between the two games.

I never played any of the Elder Scrolls RPGs, my first foray into Tamriel was ESO, so this game holds no nostalgia value for me. With that in mind would folks who have played it recommend it?

I am genuinely curious about it and it does look stunning in all the trailers but in my experience “remasters” have been largely a disappointment and little more than money grabs (especially with the inflated price tags). Is this one any different?

I wish ESO looked this good..if only we could gate a full remaster instead of the barley noticiable graphic upgrades we're getting. :/

Be careful what you wish for... the graphics are... intensive.

If they did something like this with ESO they'd be writing off a good chunk of the player base.

And is not like most people can quickly get an upgrade...

With things as they are with GPUs at the moment, good luck purchasing one without getting a 2nd mortgage.

I never understood this sentiment, if gaming is your hobby then you need to invest in it just like any other pastime. A few thousand dollars upgrading your rig every couple of years is nothing compared to how much other hobbies cost. Have you tried playing golf? Not to be crass about it but how do you need to “take out a second mortgage” for GPU, do you live in a used car for which you had to take out a loan? 😅

absolutely. it's one of the better single player western mmorpgs if you like an open world setting with freedom to do as you please when you please and to be whatever you want.

I'm currently playing the remastered version of Oblivion and it's great fun.
I'm even capable of running it on medium settings with an Nvidia GTX 1080 on 60fps without issues. And I was 80% sure I'd most likely have to refund it (Steam purchase) but apparently I got very lucky.

It's incredibly well optimized as far as I can tell and still feels like Oblivion down to the core.

The optimization is all over the place. On my 3060 I'm getting 15 fps on exteriors on everything on Low, but it works smooth even on High when in interiors. For some people it works well, for some not at all - I did not see any middle ground yet.

Enabled FS3 with Frame Gen. You can use it with any GPU. It adds some very minor ghosting on only specific terrains, mainly just bright grassy locations. It will give you a huge performance boost with no input lag or visual loss.

I played it a lot then it came out, the quests are very good and often funny.
First fighter guild quest is the rat quest, your job is to save the rats 😺

An downside is that lots of game mechanics are dated, I started the original again and was quite confused just to open inventory. Now they updated the worst part who I say was leveling and level scaling but combat is not very good I say.

Recommend to play as an mage, the spell crafting and enchanting is pretty insane.
Weakness to magic 100% for 2-3 seconds weakness to shock 100% for 2-3 seconds+shock damage.
weakness to magic stack on itself and buff weakness to shock.
Grinding just make you go in circles.

I always play the mage archetype in all of my games so that’s good to know. I guess this is the system of spell crafting everyone was referring back to when Scribing came out. This version certainly seems much more expansive.

I’ve watched a few videos by content creators now and the gameplay does seem quite dated and awkward but then I guess that’s to be expected given that the core of the game is two decades old. I think I will give it a shot anyway, what is like $50? Seems like a better bargain than the ESO content pass scam anyway, lol.

My 1080ti is just starting to become obsolete with this remaster, most of the time outdoors I'm at +40fps (knowing that the eye doesn't make the difference above 30fps), even if I don't have raytracing I've always run games at 60fps in full ultra even cyperpunk2077, still decent even without rt, dlss, etc
ofc 60 is much safer, it allows in the event of a sudden drop in fps to leave a margin and avoid falling below 30.

1080ti was the best card for years when it came and still today It has better performance than many higher generation cards
I bought it second hand for $400 on eBay, it was a great deal 3 years ago
    https://technical.city/en/video/GeForce-GTX-1080-Ti-vs-GeForce-RTX-3060

by the way, for all people using old cards, I'm using reshade on oblivion remastered
I usually use 4 or 5 filters (a bit of HDR, sharp and bloom) which make the game look better and compensate for the lack of raytracing, and it doesn't consume anything at all in terms of fps

Neither DLSS nor FSR helped much in my case. I had to use Engine.ini tweak that disables UE5 Lumen to receive noticeable impact on frames.

Did they actually touch the level scaling? Doesn't seem so from where I'm standing. I did Kvatch on level 15 and almost every enemy was a fire atronach. At level 19 many bandits wear ebony armour, all of them use glass weapons, Ayleid ruins are full of wraiths and liches, and when I entered a goblin cave, every single one of them was a warlord.

I wonder if it's still possible to play through the game without advancing your character from Level 1. That was one solution to the level scaling pain.

As the level scaling is in the creation engine part it should be pretty easy to mod.
My issue with most oblivion level scaling mods is that they went crazy in the other direction, make it like in Skyrim I say.
