Yes it is using Unreal Engine 5
A video game studio accustomed to remasters has been secretly working on this for years, and the Shadow reveal was supposed to happen, but a few days before, images leaked from the studio's website, and everything accelerated.
So the remaster is available on the day of the reveal. It's already available on Steam, FYI.

Everything is approved and authenticated by Bethesda of course.

I puttered around in Oblivion when it first came out, but never did much of anything in the game actually. But one of my current characters in ESO is a remake of the character I tried that game with, with the backstory that later on ended up accidentally getting sent back through time to the time of ESO. Now I can finally make that character again in Oblivion Remastered and play through his former life in the future. 😊

Agree, spend a lots of time in it. Wonder how true it is to the original? Loved many of the weird stuff in it.
I obviously assume level scaling is more like Skyrim and FO 4, it exist but is much more local and restricted. Now it need Oblvion's spellcrafting.
    And hope dialogue has improved.

I just wish TES IV had playable werewolves like the other games in the franchise do. I don't think I'll be playing this remaster if they weren't added in somewhere.

I tried playing it a long time ago, and got really confused about how to make a good end-game build. Then I read some web pages about it that said you could actually screw up your skill progression so badly you couldn't finish the game, and laid out this incredibly complicated way of doing it. It sounded like so much work, I just gave up on the game. Is this just a straight graphical upgrade? Did they keep all the existing sub-systems (like leveling) as-was?

ESO bout to be put to the side for quite some time now lol.

Anyone else think it’s absolutely nuts that the year content pass for ESO and oblivion are equal in price? Crazy to think about..

The reveal was amazing, and either my internet connection is having a really rough day (but only on twitch), or the reveal kind of broke Twitch with the number of ppl tuning in. :) So much interest in Elder Scrolls. Great to see.

I remember in Skyrim days, Gopher (a well-known modder) reviewed the Dragonborn DLC that takes place on Solstheim and described the DLC as a "love letter" to Morrowind fans. And in the reveal, they used that same phrasing to describe the remaster, as a "love letter" to fans. Just a thing that stood out to me. I think someone must have seen that review and subconsciously took it to heart. I believe Bethesda (BGS, not the parent co) does really care what the fans think. The Starfield response must sting, but hopefully that will make TES6 even better.

I'm only 20 minutes or so in, just testing that it installed and ran ok which it did. It looks great.

I can't remember anything about the original version as it was 19 years ago when I played it so I'm really looking forward to getting my teeth into the remastered version.

Been watching some gameplay. Going to play this for sure.

It will be very hard to come back to those ugly base zones of ESO though after playing this.

Wes Johnson said they just reused all of the current voice acting. I also hear that they layered the UE5 engine over the original engine so it should be mostly the same game with improvements in areas like archery from what I read. I hope level scaling was addressed because that was the worst part of the original (but awesome) game. Game size is 120GB on disc and I’m installing it as soon as I get home tonight.

And moddable! Using the same underlying engine for quests is great, since there is already a very large community of people who are experienced at creating mods for it.

I imagine Bethesda will at some point soon have a creation hub for OR, the same as for Skyrim.

I also have to wonder if this hybrid approach is the same they are going to take for TES 6.

Also, just playing 'as we speak'.

Happy that they dropped it after Anniversary was over... otherwise my box farming would have suffered quite a bit.

I wish ESO looked this good..if only we could gate a full remaster instead of the barley noticiable graphic upgrades we're getting. :/

There's a reason I usually play with a face/head overhaul mod when I'm still playing the original ;)

As for the Remaster, I do find they look slightly weird, or is that just me? I'll still buy it - sometime, when it's on discount. Even if I understand it was a lot of work, I somehow feel slightly unwilling to pay 55 Euros (over 60$) for a game that I, in principle, already own (and even still have installed right now).

Would be cool to re-play it, but it is Unreal 5. So optimization does not exists and for 99% game won't be mod-able (at least not on the same level TES games are known for). I will wait for reviews and most likely see if the game will work on a bit older hardware. If not, then oh well, I played the OG TES4, so I am not missing much I guess. If I will upgrade / build new PC like 5+ years from now then I will check this game at some point, but I am not in a hurry.

That is... technically correct I guess?

Modding is not currently supported although it does have code for the Creation Club 'Creations', so it is possible if successful enough that they may release a CK. Maybe. Maybe for a chosen few.

Also it does have UE5 layered over the Creation engine.

The Oblivion.esm is there for everyone to see (and tinker).

When I saw the announcement video, I did think they tried to stay true to the original design of the faces, unfortunately. (Probably the right choice, I can imagine the uproar if they changed anything at all). Though the noses of the Argonians didn't look right for some reason.

I've decided to wait for more players' pictures of their characters before making my decision.

It would never have happened, but I personally would have loved if they made the Oblivion characters look either like Skyrim or ESO characters.
